Ordered a barn door and hardware from Rustica Hardware and when we opened the box, the door was the wrong size and didn't look near the color shown online. We were fine with this, as things happen; however, we had no idea what a long and drawn out ordeal this was going to be. We called to set up to return the door and got an RMA # to return it for full credit. Yea! So far, so good. Well it has been almost 8 weeks and we are still waiting for this company to credit our account...with the continuous run around of "it should be done in the next few days," or "sorry, but there is a pile of credits to be processed within the next few days" "sorry for the delay." DELAY??? How long does it take to process through? I am so frustrated and going to contact the credit card company, thinking of the Better Business Bureau as well. Normally I do research before I order from a company but I could not find any info on this company before I ordered my butcher block countertop until they charged my credit card as "Rustica Hardware". Their current lead times are listed as five to seven weeks. It has been two months and still has not been shipped. I called earlier this week and their customer service told me that it would be shipped 4/24/15. Did I receive a shipping notification? Nope! At least an update would be nice. I wish I could give this company zero stars. Ordered a barn door and hardware for a master bedroom and bathroom remodel. The rail was bent... not surprising given the packaging. I had to straighten it... not an easy task for people that don't have the tools. The door took over a month to arrive. Since it had to match the finish of the new closet door, we ordered it un-assembled and unfinished. After a careful assembly, staining, finishing, the door was both significantly warped and out of square. Contacted the company via email and Meredith eventually responded. Then I did not hear back for a couple of weeks and had to email again. Meredith finally responded that she had been out and would need to talk to "management" to figure out what to do. Per her request I sent a bunch of pictures to show the problem. And the response? "I looked into what we could do for this situation. Unfortunately due to our terms and conditions we are not able to warranty the warp in your door due to it not being finished and stained by Rustica. As far as the door not being squared we do have a hard time seeing that in your pictures and again can not warranty that as we have quality control inspect it before it goes out, and again it not being stained by Rustica." Ikea Project from hell! I checked out these reviews just now after spending many many hours yesterday assembling two doors. I have to say I am not surprised at all by the majority of reviews as I am experiencing a variation on the same theme.This is not a project for an average homeowner. My father-in-law is a cabinet maker. His help made this project doable. As was stated in previous reviews, no labels to hardware parts, vague directions, and in our case slightly different top and bottom pieces (Had one of the pieces not come broken and needed repair we would not have noticed this. The doors would have not lined up together and we would have had to start again. The broken piece went from being annoying to a extremely helpful in revealing that issue.) The wheel paint chipped almost immediately (Powder Coating instead?) Instead of going on an on, which I could, I'll say that the doors are very cool once put together. There is no denying that. I really like them once up. The business plan of selling difficult to install doors with little or no instruction is flawed. The idea is cool. That's why be bought them. Future buyers please beware at what you are buying here. These are not for novice DIY homeowners. I put a call into customer service and was greeted with a friendly guy. I will start by saying the Door itself looks good! though I thought I was getting reclaimed wood and the wood looks like they are making it look old/reclaimed The hardware shipped with it sheared apart (faulty??) I had to go to the hardware store to replace. The bolts shipped were the wrong size - I had to go to the hardware store to replace. They have a great product but haven't seemed to figure out how to get the details correct. Customer service told me to watch the youtube installation video - but the link wasn't active. They should consider pre-drilling everything (including the door). They have the wood shop. This is an expensive handyman's special. Doors are expensive, and over $400 in hardware and some of it breaks apart. Also be vert careful with the plastic parts (we didn't break any) but was a concern throughout the process. We ordered a butcher block top from them, and upon reading the confirmation email that it would take 7 weeks to arrive, we called and attempted to cancel the order. You'd think since it was 7 weeks out they'd be able to do this without issue. However, they insisted they have a 25% cancellation fee, then later told me it was 20%. I asked if my item was in production yet, and they said no. If it's not in production why do you need to withhold $200 of my money. I am a builder, and I order building materials for our homes all of the time. This is by FAR the worst customer service experience I have had with any company I've dealt with. On a different note, they do business under multiple names (chopblockcuttingboards.com, Rustica Hardware, etc.) so I've actually been tricked into ordering from them again doing business under a different name. That experience (with a barn door for a clients kitchen) was just as miserable. The barn door arrived warped and twisted, and I was told that I could not return it. They advised me to lay it on the ground and put phonebooks on the corners for several days...first off, who still has a phonebook, let alone 4?? And second, you send me a defective product and then tell me to fix it? Terrible company, terrible products, terrible responses from customer service to problems that you almost certainly will have. The issue here is not the quality of the work, but rather the communication between sales and production. I told them I had two 42" barn doors to hang...they sent me 8 feet of track. When I ordered the rest of the track, they sent a flat track (original order was for J-track). When they sent the correct track, it was scratched and bent (try some bubble wrap perhaps!?). I needed custom barn door hardware for some displays in my store. While the person on the phone was helpful, the follow-up was less than stellar. Phone calls were not returned, and then finally when the fabrication was finished, I paid $500 extra to get 2-day UPS courier service rather than the slow 5 business day ground service. In spite of already charging my credit card the extra delivery, they still sent the hardware slow ground service, costing me both extra time and money since this delayed even further my construction. While they are able to do detailed custom work, I would not recommend paying extra to get faster delivery since you can pay, but you won't get it. read more

First of all the staff was super friendly and helpful with us placing our order and getting our hardware. I'm not sure what the negative reviews on here are about because our order was fast and easy and all of the parts were there. A lot of money for a poor quality product: 1. Only parts of the doors are wood. The vertical side boards are actually composite with veneer. 2. The wood is FULL of knots, and I mean large, open ugly-looking holes. The wood splits and chips easily for no apparent reason, as you are drilling it. 3. Mind the fact that you have to assemble the doors yourself and the fit is poor requiring banging and sanding. 4.The hardware has a poor quality powder-coating and scratches easily. 5. Do not follow their instructions for mounting! Mount the bar first, then work backwards. Very, very disappointed. One of the most frustrating do-it yourselves ever! read more

Having just moved in to a new home my husband (who happens to be an architect) built a sliding barn door for the entry way to our master bathroom. We ordered the hardware from Rustica Hardware towards the end of October and were told 5-7 business days for production. Approximately 2 weeks after placing the order I had not received any shipping info on our hardware so I called their customer service number and was told their production times were approximately 10 business days (not the 5-7 as stated at the time of purchase) and that today was the 10th day of my order in production and it should ship by the end of the week. The next week came and still no shipping info. Approximately 3 weeks after we placed our order we finally received the tracking numbers of the shipments. Once we received the actual hardware our major problems began. We were missing multiple items from our order including both handles. We attempted to call them during normal business hours on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. When we called the phone line said "All operators are currently busy but please hold and you will be transferred when one becomes available" well apparently the company was closed and had their customers "holding" all day to speak to someone because we waited on the line for over an hour before hanging up and attempting to call back later the same day with the same results. In addition to the missing items, some of the hardware they sent were different than what was shown in the instructions with the major differences in the spacers. The instructions included adjustable spacers and what was provided was actually a bracket that created space between the door and the wall to account for the trim. Assuming that the brackets would work just as well as the spacers we hung the track and the door on the hangers according to the instructions. However once we got the door on the track we realized that the bracket spacers actually caused the track to sit over 1/2 of an inch higher than the adjustable spacers would have and we now have over a 1" gap between our door and the floor. I was finally able to get through to their customer service today and was told that the missing items from my order were "overlooked" and they would have to place a new order for these items and there would be another 3 week wait until they would ship. In regards to the difference between where the spacers hold the track and the instructions provided I was told that the door that my (architect) husband built was too short. There was no attempt to correct the situation or expedite the missing parts. Unacceptable way to do business in my opinion. read more

We purchased 3 barn doors from them. First of all, I would like to say both the doors and hardware are of beautiful quality. Really heavy doors, all hand-crafted. Custom to your order and specifications. So the product and concept are really nice. Here's where it gets sticky: After weeks and no shipping notification, we finally received one box. In the box was all the hardware for the 3 barn doors, piled together with no labeling on any of the components of screws, wheels, bolts, etc. Some bags even contained all the screws for all 3 doors. It took my husband and I, who are very savvy in construction, a couple of hours to separate and plan what was used for what. NO instructions at all!!! This was a nightmare! We also received some wheels with paint knocked off of them and nobody cared other than to suggest touch-in paint that we had to purchase. There is some sort of assumption by this company that you automatically know what the hardware is for and how to install it. This is very confusing to receive piles of bolts, screws, wheels, tracks, metal L bars, stops etc, all together in one box and no instructions or labels. Instructions that don't exactly apply were only obtained through me making many calls to customer service. The barn doors arrived weeks after that (no shipping notification again) and the only instructions for those was a cheap piece of paper. They also do not provide extra lag bolts or spacers if you need them, which in my opinion, the door needs more than what is provided due to the weight. We had to purchase more lag bolts and some other items to make the doors work because we had to take some of the hardware from one of the doors to make the first installation work correctly. They charged my credit card for those items and weeks later, have yet to ship them- which by the way is not legal to charge and not ship. So frustrating! We can't install the other barn doors without these items. I emailed customer service several times ( they do not respond to their email), live- chatted, called them and nobody can seem to get it together to send the lag bolts, touch-in paint, and spacers. Also, nobody tells you when you order a specific track length that it might be spliced and this takes planning in case where you have to put the bracket to hold the splice is not on a stud. So don't be surprised if your track shows up in two pieces. In summary: the doors are very nice, BEAUTIFUL craftsmanship, but the hassle and lack of follow-through might not worth the trouble to some. This company could be so much better. Lack of communication and follow-up. We spent close to $4k and for that I would expect better customer service, a couple extra lag bolts and extra plastic spacers if you need them. I believe that this company is under staffed and tries to manage with the people they have which creates frustrated customers and overworked employees. As an update**** I did receive a call from a lady in customer service who said that they have hired more people and are now working in a different software system that is making things better. We'll see because I am thinking I need another barn door but not sure I want to take the risk. read more

We bought 16' bypass barn door hardware from Rustica. While it looks great, the quality is terrible. Issues we encountered include: multiple missing parts, irregularities in the track hole locations, threaded plastic inserts in the bypass standoffs. We paid top dollar and got a very cheaply & poorly manufactured product. My husband is a skilled journeyman carpenter and it took him a whole day and multiple trips to the hardware store to install what should have been a 2 hour job. read more

What a disappointment. They shipped door with a manufacturing defect, painted over it. My contractors wouldn't install it because it wasn't good enough quality. I'm left paying the contractors for the time, making accomodations for the delivery. The box that the door comes in is impossibly huge and very expensive to dispose of. On top of all of this, they are not willing to help detract from all of the additional expenses and now I will have to find someone to remove the damaged doors which are large and heavy and pay my contractor again. Called them now it's gonna take 3-4 weeks to get my refund! Stay away from this company! It's been 11 days and still have not received a refund to my credit card! I was told a Supervisor would "try" to call me back within 24 hours...they didn't call me back. In the mean time I can't buy Christmas presents with the $336 they're holding hostage.... I've been checking with my citi card and they have no record of Rustica making a refund. I complained to Rustica; they called me today and basically said it's between me and my credit card company. I called my credit card company.. Citicard and they verified they hadn't received a refund and told me now to "Dispute" the charge with Rustica Hardware. This all started December 10, 2015.... it's now 26 days later! I had purchased the rip top door. It was a beautiful door with amazing color with depth and texture. Unfortunately it was not the correct size and did not come with the bottom part cut out to keep it straight and able to stop. We sent it back my new one came with all the parts and the right size BUT....it was blah looking. No texture all the pieces are flat unlike the first one or the one they picture on there sight. We were looking for a modern custom barn door for our bedroom that wouldn't cost thousands of dollars or take forever. I googled custom barn doors and found Rustica. I found the most gorgeous-perfect door, measured the space, filled out all the information on the order form and paid. I didn't even think of googling reviews, but I did after the purchase and became scared because they're all so terrible on yelp. I reached out and they assured me that my door was coming, but also while looking at my measurements, they noticed an error. They alerted me about the error in my measurements and asked if I wanted to fix the order--which I definitely wanted to--thank goodness they noticed this, otherwise the door would not have fit. About two weeks later we received our door and hired a local handyman to install it. It took him a couple hours but it now looks gorgeous and we are obsessed. It's almost like a piece of art. We contacted Rustica customer service several times over the last month asking for replacement slats and received no firm updates. When speaking with them today we were told that not only have the parts not been shipped, but they are still being made. I don't recommend ordering doors from Rustica or Barndoors & Hardware (a subsite of Rustica) online or via mail order. Their Terms and Conditions are entirely inappropriate for a mail order product. The gist is effectively that 24 hours after you have ordered the door, there is a 20% fee to change anything and after 30 days, you own it, regardless of whether you got the wrong thing or it is defective. I ordered a door as part of a remodel of our guest bath. The door arrived and our contractor started the project two weeks later. He put the door up last. It turned out it was not the door I thought I had ordered. When I called, they said they couldn't do anything since it was past the 30 day return policy and we had assembled the door. On top of that, the door didn't hang straight. There is a flaw in the design of the door. Since the door is a bunch of horizontal slats held on the two sides by metal rails, there is nothing to keep the door from twisting, which is what was happening to our door. My contractor disassembled, reordered the slats and reassembled the door several times, but was unable to get the door to stop twisting. Once again, Rustica claimed that because it was beyond 30 days, all they could do was send a few replacement slats. I'm kicking myself for not doing my research and reading these reviews before I ordered. I sent them a message asking if they even care that they are getting trashed on virtually every review site and their response... "... we do have a 30 day return and exchange policy ... We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause." The kicker is that after finally coming to terms with the fact that I'm going to have to throw away this over $1K purchase and get one from somewhere else, I find out that Home Depot sells their doors and provides a 90-day return policy! read more

I received the barndoor track and it was bent. They sent me another one and it was bent too. They forgot to send me bolts to assemble the door. The bolts for fastening the track hardware to the door were too short. I had to go buy the correct length bolts. It would be easier if the door came with instructions. It is difficult to find the right instructions online. They should predrill holes in the door for the track hardware, to make it is easier to assemble. The WORST customer service I've experienced in my 45 years. First they got my order completely wrong and shipped every single item I ordered in the wrong color. When I called to find out what I could do they acted completely nonchalant about it but told me they wouldn't have to wait for my items to come back in in order to start on my corrected order and that my order would be moved to the front of the line. They also said they'd send me the UPS label via email that day. I waited two days and never received it. So I called back and got the exact same nonchalant attitude and no apologies but was told they'd email me the label, which I did receive that day. Now weeks later (I placed the order October 28 and today is December 9, it's been at least two weeks since I shipped their mistake back) i called to find out where my order is and I was put on hold for five minutes. Ok fine I get it, they're busy. I call back and press a different number so I can go directly to sales and the girl put me on hold there for five minutes and then came back to tell me she's transferring me to the manager. I waited another few minutes and finally ended up hanging up. I called back and the girl told me she transferred me but the manager had picked up another call but he wanted her to tell me my order will ship this week. Again, no apologies for their multiple screw ups. She said they had just received my return on December 5th and they couldn't start my correct order until then. I explained that I was told the opposite of that and that they would actually move me to the beginning of the line to get it out to me since it was there error. With no apologies (again) she just reiterated what the manager had told her. So now I just hope they send the correct order by the end of the week as they've promised. Even if my order is perfect this time around and exceeds my expectations I will never order from this company again based on the lack of decent customer service. We ordered a custom barn door and hardware that was recommended by the csr that I worked with at Rustica. The door arrived in beautiful condition, however, it took twice as long to receive the door and there was no communication whatsoever from the time that I ordered and paid in full. The hardware was much too large for our door. The handle for the part of the door that was facing the bathroom should have been flush so that the door would close properly. The hardware that I ordered at Rustica's recommendation, would have prevented the door from closing! I spoke to a csr and returned the two items. I received the new handle yet there were no bolts! It took a month to get the new bolts. It has been four months now and I have yet to receive a credit for the items I returned. I call weekly and am told repeatedly that the credit card will be credited right away. They act like I'm inconveniencing them by calling about money they owe me. They are rude and short on the phone. Apparently over the weekend their customer support switches to a call center in the Philippines and the guy we dealt with there was clueless and trying to get him to understand we could not photograph parts that "weren't there" or disassemble the door to photograph "all the parts" was not going to happen. After subsequently speaking with Tony from US based customer support, the parts were immediately over-nighted and we were given an additional 5% off on the door. Customer service has been unable to resolve our door issue that arrived with incorrect parts from Rustica. They wanted us to find someone to fix it and pay for it, which is ridiculous when you spend $4400 at a company. When you pay a premium, you expect customer service like you paid a premium price for a product. Asking your customer to fix your issue is probably the most absurd thing I've ever seen a high-end company do. Also, it took over a week for them to come back to use that response. Going days with no interaction. As someone who works in high-end furniture and sees mistakes happen, my customer service team would never handle a situation like this. We would either find someone local to fix it or send a new piece and have the old one taken away and, in some cases, refund the customer if it comes to it. Never ever would we ask the customer to fix our mistake. I'll be happy to change my one-star review when the company stands behind its products with the quality of service expected for the price you pay. I just completed a DIY closet makeover that I thought was going to be well beyond my capabilities. I am not a carpenter and tackle some home projects on occasions. After extensive review and several informative telephone calls with their representatives and specialist's we used Rustica Hardware for all of our barn door hardware needs. I did not use their barn doors as we were not looking for a "rustic" barn door look. I installed an 11' 6" bypass system with 4 doors. Their customer service department configured the exact components I needed and offered suggestions for the right type of hangers, explained the differences between wheels, and helped determine the door pulls and guides that would best meet my needs and style preference. They knew to ask the width of the doors I was going to use in order to send the correct length screws. Mounting screws for my own header board and wall configuration were provided. The configuration was reviewed by another person at Rustica and I was afforded the opportunity to change the configuration and options I chose before the order was finalized. Delivery was on right schedule. I was a bit overwhelmed when looking at all the pieces - but the instructions, measurements and illustrations were precise and helped along the way. I either misplaced or did not receive a few nuts and acorn nuts and they sent them out the next day without any hesitation. I called two other times to ask for advice on customized measurements and received answers that I felt comfortable with (due to the knowledge of the agent) - and the measurements worked out just right. My wife and I are very happy with the responsiveness we received from Rustica Hardware, the selection of products that could meet our needs and the quality of the products we purchased from them. All of the components were precisely according to specification and lined up perfectly. This was not an easy job (for me anyway) - but Rustica was the key player in helping us turn a four foot bypass closet door opening to a full wall, full access closet that looks spectacular (own decor preference). Here in Key West on vacation, came across Roostica and decided to try them. We went with the Sicilian Deep Dish. The pizza was loaded with all kinds of great stuff. Very delicious. We plan to come back next year and this will be place we will definitely eat again. read more

We love our door! I found Rustica Hardware while searching the web. I sent them an email asking for assistance in measuring and ordering our door. Terri was incredibly helpful and spot on! I even sent her a picture of the furniture near where the door would be to help match the trim! Perfect choice. Terry and Tony were very good with getting me all the videos/directions for installation. It made it so much easier this way. The quality is EXCELLENT! I don't think anyone can argue that. I wish I had seen the reviews here prior to sending Rustica Hardware a boatload of cash! First off, the hardware kit that I ordered arrived in a timely manner...but it was missing several pieces (a few bolts, etc). When I called about this, I had to speak to two different people before someone could explain the issue...because the person who answered the phone had no clue what was supposed to be in the package! Secondly, I made two returns associated with the order. The first was due to my customer making a last minute change in the plan which required a longer track. The second was because the "wall mounted roller guides" actually require a Hole in the Floor! The first return was no big deal. I agreed to pay the restocking fee and to ship the track back to them (net loss of about $100 all total). The second return took 3 different employees and a manager to solve. I explicitly ordered this type of guide to avoid putting a hole in the customer's brand new hardwood flooring, yet nobody mentioned this hole issue when i ordered! The instructions say to hang the door with 1/2" floor clearance, which I did...then I learned that the roller guides won't fit under the door with that clearance...hence the 1/2" relief hole they wanted me to drill in the floor. After explaining to them that I refuse to damage the flooring, the manager agreed to accept the return, but again wanted me to pay shipping and a restocking fee...eventually she caved an waived both. This was about 3 weeks ago. Still no refund. Needless to say, I'm not happy. read more
