Two meat platter with brisket and smoked sausage; bacon macaroni; toast; and, banana pudding.

On a recent trip to Ontario, we drove across the street to Fruitland to rustle up some BBQ. Yes, the Rustic Pig is attached to a gas station. But that's no different than many fast food restaurants you now see attached to gas stations. There was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Service was quick! While I lean towards preferring meat well done, the brisket was a bit too well done for my taste. The smoked sauce was definitely smoky! The toast was excellent, as was the banana pudding. I especially loved the great selection of BBQ sauces available. Something for everyone!

Came thru town and was wanting a good meal co workers decided to grab some bbq and the brisket and ribs were on point the chicken is shredded not whole but it was good as well you have to grab all the different sauces and try them it was so good that I bought a 2 bottles of bbq sauces the the cheese mashed potatoes and Mac cheese and potatoes salad were so good, must stop and try service was on point very nice.

Located inside a gas station in Fruitland, Rustic Pig BBQ is some of the best barbecue I have had in Idaho. It is well worth the drive! It was a very hot summer day, but I love barbecue and it's not every day that I'm in Fruitland, so I did my best to try sample as much of the menu as I could. I ordered the 1 Meat Plate, which came with a drink, a side, bread, and pudding. I ordered 4 more small sides. Here is what I tried: Pulled Pork Mac 'n Cheese with Bacon Garlic Mashed Potatoes Spicy Baked Beans (they have regular Baked Beans too) Potato Salad Cole Slaw Banana Pudding I was also offered a free sample of brisket. Both the pulled pork and brisket were excellent! There were six homemade barbecue sauces. They were all excellent! I loved all of the sides, except for the potato salad. The banana pudding was very good! I wanted to try the chocolate pudding too, but I had to draw the line somewhere. Highly Recommended!!!

The guy taking orders was great. Reminded me of Andre the Giant. Very nice guy. I really liked the baked beans and the potato salad had a great taste and consistency, but they were so cold that they had ice in them. I liked the sausage. The chicken and brisket were not bad, but there was no smoke flavor and were a bit dry/over cooked. The chocolate pudding was even bland. Not the worst bbq, but definitely not the best.

I've only tried one dish so far but it made me want to come back real soon and try more. Brisket was tender and flavorful. Mac was tasty and pasta wasn't over cooked. The beans were tasty and thick. The pudding wasn't great but that's just a small part. I tried all the BBQ sauces they have like 6 of them and they were all tasty.

I'm so disappointed with this place. I ordered through a delivery service a bunch of bbq and they failed to include my bbq sauce. The delivery driver said they even asked if it was in there and was told it was. The food was ok but honestly it ruined my meal.

The menu is very simple, but the food was fantastic, and the serice was fast and friendly. Well worth the stop and I'll definitely be back.

The bbq is great. Just needs salad options, desserts, and more sides like corn on the cob and corn bread.

"Every bite was perfect and it was worth every minute of the almost hour drive from our house to…read moreget here." That was my reply when the chef came by our table to ask my husband and me how we had enjoyed lunch on our first visit in. Our second visit was for dinner on an Italian specialty night and the only thing that was different in my response to this question was that it took an hour and fifteen minutes from our front door to the restaurant due to traffic. Still worth every minute of the drive for delicious food, warm hospitality and a vibe that sparkles with pride of ownership in this 1924 built gas station reimagined as a restaurant in January 2023. BACKSTORY: Emran Chowdhury is chef and operating manager of the this eatery. He started his culinary career in Toronto then moved on to Italian restaurants in Seattle and Boise before pivoting to start a food truck in Fruitland in roughly 2021 using ingredients from local farmers and producers. Eventually that led him to launch Hitchcock Station in the building that was remodeled by a former NFL player and his wife. When the restaurant opened it specialized in a menu featuring local ingredients for a mostly burgers, sandwiches and handcrafted shakes for lunch theme. The restaurant's hours of operation have expanded to include dinner service and an evolving menu that reflects Chef Chowdhury's classical training and passion for local food ingredients in farm-to-fork point of view. WARM WELCOME & SPLENDID SERVICE: On both visits we were greeted, as we noticed all guests were, as we walked in and offered a table. Servers are friendly, we felt like friends or family, knew the menu to answer questions and timed delivery of the dishes perfectly. This is a casual restaurant and service is professional-casual from people who are fully engaged with diners. All people are made welcome here, from children through all ages to senior citizens. On our first visit, the grandmother in a foursome that included a mom and two grade school aged children, said out loud to the mom as she exited, "This is a pretty perfect place to enjoy a meal." SEATING: A charming selection of eclectic, mismatched tables and chairs in both the main dining dining room, with a big roll up door that looks out onto patio seating, or a cozy side room. There are also a few seats at a high counter looking into the open kitchen. MENU & EATS: See Yelp photos were some have posted menus. The lunch and dinner menus are different from each other but there is some overlap. On our lunch visit, rather than the sandwiches and burgers that make up the majority of options for that meal, we chose to share a Brussels sprout salad in Caesar style and luscious short ribs with smashed red potatoes and gravy. For dinner on an Italian night, we each chose pasta, 1. angel hair with fresh local corn and pancetta and gnocchi with shrimp, 2. roasted cherry tomatoes and truffle butter, then our mains were 1. chicken cacciatore (leg-thigh) and 2. wild Alaskan halibut wrapped with prosciutto and served in aqua pazzo with seasonal local veg and shrimp. Every dish was delicious. Portions are generous. &: Good value pricing for quality of food. Lunch menu items run about $11 - $16 and dinner $13 - $30. LIBATIONS: Soft, wine, beer, cocktails in cans too, I think. Remember the famed milkshakes. PARKING: On street parallel parking. ACCESSIBILITY: Level in the door from the sidewalk, lots of room to navigate around tables and chairs. Several tables seem to be useable by wheelchair users. Both the his and the hers loo are fully ADA complaint. Nicely done all around. Re the street parking, most of the sidewalks should accommodate van ramps. BONUS POINTS: Unlike restaurants in the greater Boise area where we live that are often jammed with people and chaotic noise levels, this feel lively but serene at the same time, never overly crowded, and with a subdued noise level that lets you enjoy conversation at your table. Ahhhh....some. IT DOES TOO LOCK! In a review of Hitchcock Station, a Yelper wrote that it was odd that the men's bathroom door doesn't lock. Ironically, my hubby said the same thing when we were here the first time. But, yep, it does too lock. Just like the ladies, in the gents there is a little button to depress right under the door lever handle. :-)

I ordered a spicy tuna roll and some hamachi nigiri. Nigiri wasn't bad but the roll was just horrible. The tuna had an off color and didn't have any real flavor other than the heavy sauce they slathered on. Other co- workers were not impressed with their meal either. They also charge a service fee which is kind of ridiculous.

I've come here twice now to have lunch with a friend. While the food is delicious, the hosts need…read moreto be retrained. They have the easiest job, that involves greeting, seating the customers asks saying goodbye as customers walk out the door. That being said, when I arrived today during lunchtime, the two girls at the front were more interested in their conversation than they were greeting my friend and I. To say the least, it was incredibly awkward, there was barely a greeting, and then the host looked confused as to where she was going to sit us, even though there was clearly a table available and in view. One would think that part of the job is knowing where to seat the next customers. As we were leaving, they were still so involved in their own conversation that they barely said goodbye, as the door was closing. If you can't put forth basic customer service skills, you probably shouldn't be the first person customers come into contact with. This restaurant could be really great, if they remedied this issue and hired on friendly hosts who are eager to greet customers with a smile on their face. What a difference that would make
