Oh dear. I did not have the same experience as a lot of the rave reviews. To be fair, this is one of the cheapest motels in town. I`ve been traveling to Ely on and off for the last 20 years and have stayed here and there around town, but decided to try to save a few bucks and stay at Rustin Inn last time. I thought perhaps this was a diamond in the rough. Maybe I have high standards when it comes to a place being "clean". I don`t know. Let's just do a pros and cons list to make this easy. Pros: -Cheap. I paid $55 for a night -Location was on the main road, so it felt relatively safe -Hot shower -Nice owner -Parking right outside your room Cons: -When I arrived, no one was in the office, which is totally fine, but there was a note on the door that had guest names and the rooms they were staying in(directing them to the room number). I don`t love a note with the room I`m staying in to be available for anyone to view -There is a difference between rustic and dingy. I had room 14 and it was okay, definitely had seen better days. My issue was with the cleanliness. The sheets were formerly white but now were a tan color from wear. The pillows were flat and the actual pillows had stains on them. Pillow covers were the same worn color of the sheets. I slept in my hoodie because I didn`t want to lay on the pillows. Random hair(not mine) in the shower and a less than pristine toilet. I know, I know. This is a cheap motel. The front office looks so cute with the lights and homey feel. The motel has a lot of potential, but it needs repair, updated items, and a deep clean. I`ll pass on this place in the future. For $20 you can stay elsewhere that will be cleaner and more comfortable. read more

Cute, cozy, comfortable, real coffee cups, and they accept dogs. If we are ever in the area again this is the place we will stay. Vera, the owner, seeks to make your stay pleasant. I appreciated the lawn, the numerous outdoor seating areas, and the BBQ area. read more

Stayed for one night on a road trip; our first time in the area. Owner/Manager Vera is friendly and very kind. Our room (#10) was scrupulously neat and clean. Fridge, microwave, coffeemaker iron/board included, along with some thoughtful extras like bottled water, snack bars. Well-restored/maintained older motor court style property in a safe, clean area. New carpet, lighting, dual-pane windows (quiet!), shower, decor. Bed was comfortable; we added a memory foam topper (we travel with one on road trips) and made it even better. Room is a small, standard outside-entrance motel room - park right in front, no stairs to climb. Great for a night or two. Looking forward to a nice dinner in Ely based on Vera's advice. Will definitely return when we travel this way again! read more

It was cheap $50 plus I paid cash so she didn't charge me tax and she was the nicest lady super friendly. Just what I need for the night. You can't beat those prices. This is hit or miss depending on your needs: The pros: 1. Clean as a whistle! 2. Cheap 3. Friendly service 4. Rustic, just like the name 5. Relatively safe area. At least by Cali person standards The neutrals you may or may not like: 1. Rooms are very small. We're taking a small bedroom small with not much room. If you have a ton of luggage, this isn't the place. (Try Magnuson or Jailhouse) 2. Old fashion keys with hollow core doors. Kind of a yikes for security; but, again, the area is decent. The cons: 1. Actually, none. All in all, a 5 in my book. Will stay again. read more

I know there are rave reviews. So what's the problem here? The best I can say is, it was cute, very clean, and friendly. Also, I was enchanted with the low price. Alas, we were not comfortable at all. I had booked a room for two separate nights within a 7 day period. Basically, there was a big problem with the layout of their rooms. We were assigned room #9 one night, room #4 the other. Both beds were positioned so the air/heating unit, placed about 3-4 ft from the bed blasted air onto your face as you tried to sleep, even on the lowest setting. There was no escaping this. It was noisy. It turned on and off all night long. I got little to no sleep whatsoever. The anticipation of a second night with the same scenario made me miserable. The second night, we tried to sleep without the unit on at all. Great, until the temperatures outside dropped into the 20's. We chose to leave in the wee hours of the morning, and will consider this a lesson learned. read more

I was super impressed finding this motel on my way across the Great Basin on U.S. 50. Management was super friendly, the room was clean, inexpensive and even had a bit of decorative flair. I was very impressed. It will be my go-to stop in Ely from now on. read more

This motel is a true value. Stayed one night on my trip driving Hwy 50 to Moab Ut. $58 for the one night in one of the cleanest well supplied rooms I have ever stayed, a nice supply of toiletries, ceramic coffee cups, a fridge, microwave, iron and ironing board, plenty of towels and extra pillows and linens. The motel is family owned and operated, the clerk at checkin was very friendly and informative. The room was very small but as good as needed for one or two nights, an up grade on a TV cabinet would help out the small size of the room, but this is just a minor issue, over shadowed by the cleanliness and cuteness of the room. This is a cute, clean place! This was a find. This is why I like yelp. Older motel that is nice. No not the Sheraton, but quite frankly I prefer here. I stayed in unit 11, which is the cheapest room at $38 plus tax, but I paid cash and the tax amount was discounted. Unit 11 is also the smallest, but it had everything I needed and more. It had a queen bed, microwave, small fridge, extra blanket and pillow, shower (no tub), tv, and internet. No coffee maker, but real glass coffee cups with Folgers coffee singles and two bottled waters. Unit 11 is on the end farthest from the road so fairly quiet. I imagine the units closer to the road get road noise. The only minor complaint I had was the bed mattress needed to be turned. A bit saggy on one side. The owner is pleasant and welcoming. read more

Don't let appearances mislead you. Vera has turned this older small motel into a delightful experience. The rooms are clean and freshened with unusual art. We two separate times in a two-week period first in room 9 then room 15. Room 9 was great, room 15 is a bit busier and short on plugs. Checkin was always fast and friendly. Rooms are exceptionally clean and priced for the traveler who is just passing through and needs a place to lay their head. We will stay again when passing through. read more

If you are looking for a place to crash then this motel is an ideal place to stay. It's not a four star hotel for sure, but the front desk attendants gives you that welcome home feeling. When I checked in, a friendly old lady greeted me. We had a casual conversation and during our conversation, I told her that I was in Ely because I wanted to visit Great Basin National Park. She quickly brought out a Tourist Guide, and she showed me the local attractions. She also told me to get as much ice as I want for my ice chest. The room was very clean with a refrigerator and a microwave. We stayed for two days, and the room was cleaned every time we got back. My only complain is the Wi-Fi was slow. read more

We reserved 30 days early, the honeymoon suite, for our 40th anniversary. When we get there, we get charged and given room 4...nothing said. After I complained, she said the honeymoon suite was not available, maybe tomorrow....we could have room 4 for the same price. WHAAAT I promply said NO THANK YOU...and got our charge refunded. On a road trip between LA and Boise, which I will probably make many times in the future, I found my halfway house! I knew nothing about Ely, NV, but having stayed at La Quinta on the way up, for the trip home the Rustic Inn looked pretty good online and the price was great. Vera greeted my sister and me with a big smile, paperwork all done, and a personal escort to our room. When we discovered that there had been a slight oversight with the reservation, she immediately and graciously stepped up with a perfect solution. Our rooms were clean, very comfortable and well equipped. I had a bit of trouble with wifi for 2 devices at the same time, but that was a small issue. The layout of the Inn invites you to come sit outside your room and strike up a conversation with the other guests coming and going. We were an odd, but interesting group of folks who made up a nice little community, however long or short our stay. Room service is not yet available (Vera plans lots of innovations), but we found a couple of good restaurants (Marguerita's!!!) less than a mile away. I am looking forward to coming back - this is going to be a little home away from home! read more
