Checked in Wednesday afternoon room looked clean with a quick overview. When we got settled in started to notice small things as follows: dust on headboard edges, gaps in wall around air conditioner, leaking toilet, leaking tub, rooms are out dated and in need of repairs! The outside appearance of building paint chipping and cracking, door jams and trim need fixing and paint! There is a loading dock directly behind room 110 and you will be awakened at 5:00 am by trucks backing in and unloading goods! Carpets look and feel like they haven't been cleaned in years!! Wouldn't recommend anyone to stay here!! It is managed by detached and uncaring young adults who are condescending and unconcerned about anything but TikTok!! read more

This is an old motel in an old town, but it was clean comfortable. The accommodations were what we expected and it's well located. We stayed there after two nights camping in Great Basin NP, which is a very short drive away. If you're passing through Ely and don't need anything fancy Bristolcone is a very good choice. read more

While traveling with an 87-year-old mother to a family function in Las Vegas starting from Nampa, Idaho, may I suggest an overnight in Ely, Nevada, and more directly, stay at the Bristlecone Motel. I researched places in Ely on both booking.com and Yelp and this fit my price range and the reviews were generally uplifting. Days before the trip a few negative reviews popped up about the front desk and dirty rooms. I was worried, but I was going to at least try the place first and see what I thought. We arrived as weary travelers after a day in the Yelpmobile. We were greeted by a very nice lady behind the desk. She got us checked in, saw my mom's age and made sure we got a first-floor room. The price was reasonable and as I opened the door to room #111, I was hit with a nice clean aroma. The beds looked wonderful and everything in the bathroom was clean. Bonus! We were absolutely thrilled with our stay here and would urge others to stay here as well. Lots of great options to eat within walking distance. Parking is a little tricky if you arrive later, I think a repainting of the lines and the layout could make room for more. read more

This is a place I have stayed at several times over the last 8 years. The owners have kept up on this establishment quite well, even recently doing some office/breakfast area upgrades. If you like independent places, then you won't be dissatisfied by staying here. The rooms are well kept and beds are very comfortable. Linens and towels are nice and soft. Like everywhere these days, staffing is short so office is open from 7am to 10 pm. There is an after hours number for "emergency" use only. Don't leave your room key behind! I stayed overnight at the Bristlecone Hotel in Ely Nevada on the night of May 2 and May 3, 2023. My room was comfortable enough, though I wish they had thicker blankets. But this was typical with hotels on my road trip six months ago. The total cost for my room was $100.28. My only significant gripe about this property is that it had a problem with both door key cards, But I noticed that this was a fairly frequent problem with hotels. What especially stands out to me is the friendliness and helpfulness of their hotel clerk "Kenna." She was willingly helpful re: my problem with their key cards. Give Kenna a raise and please fix your problem with the doorcards. read more

Seriously, clean clean. -Cost isn't too horrible. $123 a night out the door The cons: - Not enough parking. Had to park on the spots that you had to go up the sidewalk to get to. Easy enough in my pickup with light traffic. A nightmare for one with a small car. Look it up on Google Street View, you'll see what I mean.. all other spots were taken - Lobby closes at 10, no microwave in room. Eh, not a deal breaker. All in all, 8/10 read more

It's okay.... Stayed here because of good reviews. Not going to lie, but it looks shady as heck but, after looking and driving by the other hotels that Ely has to offer, they all look shady. Cons: Parking sucks and is really limited. If you're going to check in later than 7pm, or come back to your hotel late, good luck really. Hotel room not that clean. The sink was left dirty and so was the shower area along with the fridge. A simple extra 10 minutes could of prevented this. Staff member not really professional. I'm going to assume this is family owned, but still, even if so, you need to represent yourself with professionalism. I was checked in by some kid who looked to be no more than 15, and dressed as such. He also seemed like he had no idea what he was doing, which I mean, I understand if he is filling for someone yet; there was another girl, again, couldn't be much older than him, just standing there, eye balling. Be more professional.. Pros: It appears all the rooms have brand new 55-65 inch TCL TVs, which was a nice touch. Place was fairly quiet at night which believe it or not, is a bonus. We stayed here last night. I called two nights before we were due into Ely, and the Bristlecone had a queen suite available. This was perfect for our family! Two queen beds in one room, a bathroom with just a toilet and shower/tub, a separate double sink area, and another bedroom with a locking door and a queen bed. After several days of traveling with teens, it was really nice to have some privacy! The beds were really comfortable and we slept like rocks. It was quiet. The night front desk agent was really kind and helpful. I'd definitely stay here again! They do offer a "breakfast;" we opted out. Packaged pastries, Captain Crunch and Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereals, a juice machine, coffee and tea. That's it. You might be fine with that; we rarely eat hotel breakfasts anymore because we prefer healthier choices. The price was insanely fair. $113! read more

I stayed here on 9/19/23. I was very disappointed. First room the sheets didn't appear to have been changed from previous guests. New room the bathroom floor was filthy water in the shower unable to regulate. It was either scalding or cold. The microwave didn't work. Dog friendly! Was looking for a dog friendly place for a quick getaway. While it appears there are several in the area I chose the Bristlecone because it has doors to the outside. A lot of people don't like bully breeds so I thought this would be easier and safer for my dog. The lady at the front was very friendly, the pet fee was only $15! The pet friendly room has tile floor and 2 queen beds, smelled very clean when we walked in. The room is large, the bathroom is a bit small but met our needs just fine. Cleanliness is my biggest pet peeve when staying in motels and this place, while not brand new was very clean. Gave it 4 stars because it's not brand new modern fancy but that's not what I was looking for. Great place to stay! read more

Great motorcycle stop. We always stay here when traveling to and from Utah, Arizona or other. Friendly staff and clean rooms. Not a great place but a real good place for a good price. We've stayed there once a year for the past six years, and it's always been very nice. I have no idea how they keep the grass and grounds of the hotel so nice looking in the severe high desert climate in Ely! There's enough parking even when the place is full, which is not the case in most Ely motels. The staff is always friendly. read more

I had stayed at the Bristlecone Motel many times quite a few years ago when it was owner operated. When I made my reservation, the person I spoke with didn't even know who owned the motel so I'm guessing it's corporate owned. The white bathroom sink had globs of green toothpaste in it, indicating it had not been cleaned. There were hairs on the sheets and no numbers on the thermostat so I had no idea what temperature I was setting it at. This place has gone downhill. I won't be staying here again. read more

stay in hotel in August 2023. booked on hotels..com. prepaid for booking. arrived at hotel.a kid is running the front desk could not find my reservation. he found the reservation then said someone had already checked in. They had to go check the room to make sure no one was in the room. they took my credit card for incidentals and charge the card again for 101.13. I booked two rooms for one night. I'm still disputing that with credit card company. they refuse to return my money. I go to watch TV and the TV does not work and the batteries are dead in the remote control. I go to the front desk and ask for more batteries and they can't find any. Then I go back into the room and there's bugs everywhere the room is disgusting. Do not stay there horrible place. the staff is unorganized and have no clue of what they are doing. The place should be shut down by the health department. read more

We needed a hotel pretty last minute and we called ahead and the gal was super helpful and said she would hold us a room (didn't even give her payment at that time) check in was fast and our room was seriously huge! Had 2 beds, dining table, couch, microwave, fridge, coffee maker, we were impressed! The breakfast was pretty mediocre but they had some fruit, oatmeal and cereals, and packaged muffins. Well, the Ramada is right across the street and coincidentally, there's also a huge sign nearly directly in front of our lonely little Bristlecone directing tourists to veer right to the chintzy competitor. Kind of makes you feel bad for the Bristlecone Motel. It doesn't stand a chance against all that darn neon. Really, if you are planning to stay longer than a single night anywhere in Ely, you better have packed your guns, camouflage, and elk pheromones. For the weary traveler just looking for a bed at 1:00AM, Bristlecone is cheap and a bit nippy, but nonetheless, gets the job done. Although, don't plan on checking emails, facebooking, or Twittering (unless you're OCD and must keep up the interwebs repertoire via mobile device). Apparently, Bristlecone has Internet access on their network "Ethostream," but neglect to inform you there is Ethostream 92-98. And in the end, if doesn't really matter which of the six routers you choose - they all end up no where. Which is exactly where you are when you are in Ely, NV. read more

Was attracted to this hotel because of the heavy presence of American flags. Unfortunately, however, we found a cockroach in our room. Would have left the motel but due to the races going on that weekend, there was limited vacancy elsewhere in town. With that, they agreed to move us to another room. We thought for sure they would give us a discount for our troubles but the owner not only said, I "already got a good deal" but that it wasn't a cockroach because it was too cold in Ely.. whatever it was it was unpleasant and my wife and I couldn't help but wonder if there were more "counterfeit" cockroaches elsewhere in the room. We chose the Bristlecone motel based on reviews. We were not disappointed. The rooms are large, extremely clean, and as nice, or nicer than a "Big box", motel. It is older, but beautifully remodeled. The office staff is very helpful. We made reservations on line through Booking.com with a verification, but when we arrived they had no record. It was a busy Sunday, the manager said, "no problem", got us just what we wanted. My only problem was that there are no brochures about local attractions. Great place, give it a try. read more

Nice old place. Staff are beyond nice and helpful, especially when my car decided it didn't want to start. Gardener offered to ring up a mechanic friend to bail me out. Only two gripes: one was that, if you are in a downstairs room, a heavy-footed person upstairs could sound like an elephant thumping around. The other is that, if you come back late, there could be no parking in the lot, and the adjacent streets have restrictions galore. People with big trucks tended to take up two spaces. We were VERY pleased with our stay here. We had driven a lot of miles that day and were looking forward to getting out of the car and relaxing! It is an older motel but couldn't have been nicer. Very clean, and like everyone says, the towels were AMAZING! The bed was comfy, the room large, nothing fancy, but a great place to stay. This was a great find. It's a throwback hotel - a la the 1970s non-chain design. Wonderful decor and comfortable bed. Convenient, easy to find on entering town on US 50 from the east. Given that Ely has become a near-ghost town since Kennecott pulled out, it was a wonderful thing to find a nice privately owned hotel at such a reasonable price. read more
