Rustbelt Coffee is something that I'm so proud to have in downtown Toledo. I was looking for new places to study, and came across Rustbelt Coffee. The parking lot right next door to the building was already a winner, considering parking downtown can be a headache sometimes. I am welcomed each and every time I walk in the door. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable about their products. I'm someone who orders the typical Starbucks drinks, so walking into somewhere with different drink names, I was a little intimidated. Each time, an employee is there to explain what everything is on the menu and answer any question you may have. The atmosphere is incredible at Rustbelt, as well. The space is great for studying, reading, catching up with friends, the list goes on. There's so many places to sit and stretch out without feeling cramped with a lot of people in there. They also have a back room where they sell vintage, refurbished furniture. I have to stop myself from going back there all the time, because it really is incredible. A coffee shop that makes me feel like I'm chilling in Chicago! Enough said really 1. The product: Espresso is smooth and the milk is steamed to perfection, smooth without too many large bubbles. I did some research on their non-profit status and being affiliated with life chapel church, I would prefer my coffee not be associated with organized religion, but that's just me. Not pleased about that, because of that I will not return. They did have good coffee options but the time I did go, the service was lacking. I was not greeted and the barista seemed like I was bothering him by coming in, I did no feel welcomed. Order ice coffee. Deposit directly into trash. Ordered a 16oz ice coffee during the mid-morning. As someone that frequently drinks black ice coffee, I have a more refined palette for coffee beverages. This ice coffee was undrinkable without milk- with milk added- it was still terrible. Just stopped by for the first time! I ordered a cappuccino and a latte (for my girlfriend). Though they ran out of whole milk, (which is understandable) and our drinks had to be made with skim, they were very enjoyable. The espresso was great, moderately bright with some deeper note emerging in the finish. Extremely palatable. My girlfriend enjoyed the latte as well! The drinks were served with two Lorna Doone biscuits also. For anyone curious about their equipment; they use a peak grinder for espresso, an ek43 grinder for pour overs, a two group La Marzocco Linea (what appeared to be,) fellow products gooseneck kettle, and Kalita Wave for pour overs. While on my way out I ordered a pour over (which I'm currently drinking) and it is fantastic. I forgot which coffee it was, but all of their coffee is roasted by Lance at Actual Coffee (based out of Toledo). Grant, one of the owners, told me they were trained by Lance and his team. They did a wonderful job, and I am excited to see this shop expand and flourish in the Rustbelt. Also, it's wonderful to see Toledo getting more of a coffee culture.. Connected with this place over Instagram and started following them because of their gorgeous food styling. I was pleasantly surprised to see they're in Toledo - my hometown. So happy I made it in on a trip home. I'd say it's the best stride in the Toledo coffee scene to date and actually one of my favorites anywhere. Hands down great for flavor, friendliness and feel. Totally lived up to its Instagram feed, but wasn't haughty or pretentious. Nice being greeted with a "Welcome to Rustbelt!" instead of cool indifference like most hip shops in big cities. Omg. What a gem! I was on the road on business and I needed to stop somewhere to call into a conference call. They have this awesome work area that is quiet and more private than the front area and they even had a phone booth where I felt super private!! I had their iced coffee and it's light to medium roast coffee and very typical of arabica coffee - floral/fruity and bit on the acidic side(yum!) Great atmosphere over all, pretty rustic decor..and swings and sand bag?? I mean, come on! I need this where I live! read more

The building and interior are​ quite aesthetically pleasing, however,​ that may be the reason for the price hike. The drink and sandwich I ordered were quite pricey considering the size. I found the sandwich to be quite agreeable so I didn't mind the price as much, however, the matcha tea I ordered was so small and had an overwhelming​ milk taste that was borderline pungent seeing how strong it was. The staff were friendly, the sandwich was pretty good, and the interior was aesthetically pleasing, but the overpriced subpar drinks that my friend and I had received is the reason I took stars off for this location - I mean the drinks are supposed to be the stars of a coffee shop ( and my friend did order coffee so don't think I'm just basing my experience off of the matcha). read more

Can't go wrong with a place that are selling drink for less than $5. Great quality too! Simple drinks for the simple drinker that want to sit and work or have a chat with a fiend in a cool fresh environment. It's a must need for Toledo as it brings a modern perspective and shows potential of what small businesses can turn out to be in this area that to some claim "doesn't offer much." This adds a lot for this city. It's a modern coffee shop that is a breath of fresh air for this community. You want some coffee and hang out, go here. If you don't want coffee. Go somewhere else. Best lavender latte ever and, the space they have created is awesome, I love the concept.

The people here are as welcoming and nice as it gets. The menu isn't huge but has unique options, and they're all prepared with expertise. The rotating seasonal menu has some very interesting and high-quality drinks appropriate for the season. The atmosphere is great, wide open and relaxing. Solid coffee. I stopped by while in the area for a wedding. Rustbelt is on an unassuming side street in downtown Toledo and apparently shares the space with a furniture/home decor shop, which is located in the back. I didn't get to browse, but what I could see was beautiful. The actual coffee shop itself is bright and open with a rustic feel. It's a good mix between hipster aesthetic you often see in coffee shops and the small town coffee shop of the past. You don't feel like you're walking into a place where you'll judged if you order a flavor in your latte. I love the large American flag in the back! As for the coffee and service, it was very good. Judging from the way the employees interacted with some of the customers, the baristas are very interested in establishing relationships with people, not just grinding out cups of coffee. That kind of service is always great to see. The staff was very friendly and actually thanked me for stopping by. Great attitude in this shop! I ordered an iced latte with caramel. I was hoping for house made syrup, but they serve Monin and another brand I didn't recognize, which is fine. I'd rather have Monin than Torani any day. The actual coffee itself was smooth, but still had a hint of sourness at the end. This isn't my personal preference, hence the four stars, but the drink was good and I did enjoy it. Price will run you about average for an independent coffeehouse. My 16oz iced caramel latte was $5, which to me is a little pricey, but hey, I'm not supporting Starbucks and the money is actually going to real people to support a small business, so take that into consideration. Great place to go for a coffee with friends or even a meeting with a colleague. They've been starting to have food options lately too so that's cool to see. Rustbelt Coffee is located near the sparsely commercialized downtown of Toledo - an amazing find! The staff was welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. I ordered the crushed espresso w/ almond milk. The staff warned that as I asked for almond milk, the consistency might be different (worse). However, I thought it was fine - even better than frappes from other coffee shops. I loved the bright atmosphere and greenery on the tables. Also, the hanging light bulb style lights. I would recommend this place to those visiting Toledo and would stop in again if my time here was longer. read more

Rustbelt is fantastic. I'm from SC and recently moved to the area with my wife. I found Rustbelt and was immediately impressed with the rustic yet classy vibe in the store. The building has a very industrial look; the owners have masterfully used metal, wood, and concrete to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere. But the coffee is where the real gold is at. Just 1 visit and I am in love with this place. Incredible coffee (I opted for a hazelnut iced coffee), great drink and food offerings, and an atmosphere that is spacious, trendy and unique. Oh, and outstanding customer service, too. Rustbelt appears to be a family endeavor. I met the two brothers, both so welcoming and kind. Their mother has a fabulous gift shop off the back of the coffee area. (I believe this is what the "Cream Living" on their sign out front is referencing) I browsed for a few and may have made a purchase ;) If Rustbelt were in my hometown I'd def be a regular.
