I normally go to the Collinsville Rural King once a year to buy some supplies for work that we use from there. I went to the website to order online and the Collinsville Rural King was out of the twine we needed. It's a heavy item and they would not allow me to have it shipped. I decided to take the time and drive to Waterloo for my order. The day after I placed the order I got a phone call it was ready. When I got there is was ready and I picked it up and was on my way. They cancelled my online order on the day that I was expecting to receive the delivery. I received 4 multiple cancellation emails with no explanation. I called customer service to ask why. Worst service ever. I bought a gun from Rural King website in March 2020. After 3 weeks their website showed it's sold out and my order was not fulfilled. Then I called them more than 10 times to cancel the order and get refund but no one answered calls. I also sent emails to them to cancel it. Then I bought the gun from another store which was delivered to me in 2 weeks. After another 4 weeks Rural King suddenly charged me again for this gun without my permission and mailed it to me. In an abandoned 1980's era Walmart building sits Americuh's small town general store. Farm implements, cattle feeders and pull mowers litter the cracked and aged asphalt parking lot. All of our past memories of 'goin up to Walmart', are now faded and replaced with grain bags, lawn ornaments, and porch swings..at a discount. Just when I thought Waterloo was in a sense, "growing up", Rural King moved to town after Walmart built a supercenter down the street and left vacant their iconic storefront. At first, I saw Rural King as a countrified stain on Waterloo's growing reputation in the STL and surrounding area. I mean, the name pretty much says it all. Rural. King. Waterloo's not rural anymore I thought, this place belongs somewhere in Millstadt, or Red Bud! But my vision has aged and thus, changed. The longer Waterloo keeps its rural outliers, the longer it keeps its authenticity, and I've come to adore Rural King as one of the last protectors of that pastoral faith. In many ways, Rural King is like the Walmart of the general store. Much of its contents come from overseas, are off branded, and sometimes odd. But, there's more. What delight there is in being greeted with a freshly popped free bag of popcorn each time you visit RK! What wonderment are you instantly brought back to by walking past a half dozen or more tubs of newly hatched chickens and ducks in the back of the store, gingerly asking your 50+ year old father if he thinks you could pick one up? What peace do you find in watching someone looking just like your gramma, walk down the candy aisle and pick out those old time candies they always manage to have stashed away in their kitchens or glass candy trays? My personal visits as of late are for getting oil change supplies. Buying 6 quarts of synthetic and a filter for all for only 12 bucks is certainly worth the visit to RK. Come later this spring, I'll be up there with my mom fetching potted and hanging plants and mulch for my front yard. Just can't beat their outdoor greenhouse prices and quality anywhere. After two weeks of waiting for shipping information on some firewood I ordered I called to check the status and was told it was placed on hold for verification, I was told if I hadn't called I would have never been informed! They then stated it would take an additional 1-3 day for verification and another 1-3 weeks for processing!! I asked if there was a way to expedite the processing and they refused, said they were unable to do that. 4 days after calling to verify my information I received an email that my order had been cancelled with no explanation as to why. This is a bad company that treats their customers poorly, obviously has very poor management and I will never purchase from Rural King again. Additional I will make it a point to post this on every review forum and share my experience with everyone I know. This is a great neighborhood home supply store. They carry everyday essentials, farm and garden supplies, to guns. They usually have really good prices on everything. The customer service is a little lacking, but I do believe it is because how busy they get at times. They also carry a full line of Columbia sportswear for kids and adults. Called customer service and they were no help, no meeting me halfway. So they waited until after all the black friday/cyber monday deals are long gone to inform me that they cancelled my order. I placed an order for my mother on July 27th 2019, the order did not ship out until Aug 1st. I recieved the wrong items on Aug 3rd. I called the customer service number and after 45 mins of waiting for my turn in the que someone finally answered. He told me to send pictures of what I received to a specified email address and I would hear something in 3 to 5 days. Well it is 13 days later and I have had to call and wait on hold at least 30 minutes each time, because I have yet to hear back about a shipping label to return the incorrect products and they still have my money and are telling me the returns dept is backed up. I'm sorry but I have been more than patient and understanding but this is ridiculous. I guess the only way I am going to get my money back is to dispute the charges with my bank. Very disheartened with my recent experience! Ordered online and without reason the order was canceled with "any further questions please feel free to respond to this email" when we did that the response was " items were either out of stock or back ordered ". Recently moved to a town near this store, hoping to revive my old interests in gardening, beekeeping, and growing fruit trees. The store gets two stars because they do tend to have everything I am looking for. But that's all, because the service is just pitiful. I am used to shopping Dickey Bub's, where the staff is friendly and knowledgeable and just about falls all over themselves to make sure you get what you need. Here, you're better off asking a friendly fellow shopper for help. The staff, if you can find them, are indifferent at best. My third or fourth time there, I was looking for a riding lawn mower. Yes, it was still pretty cold out, but it was part of my plan, I had the money, and I was ready to get it. The staff member I asked openly ridiculed me for wanting to look at mowers when it was not yet spring. Sorry, pal, but it's none of your business when I choose to purchase equipment. He just didn't want to have to go outside to discuss it. He called another staff member. We looked at the mowers and I asked one question. 'Do you deliver?' I cannot believe I am actually writing a review on Rural King. But I must. Because this city girl was like Dorothy to Oz. This is one of the biggest Rural Kings in Southern Illinois. And it shows, especially since it took over an old Walmart store, and we all know what huge behemoths those are. Whatever you might need to live on the prairie you can find here. Clothes and work boots? Check. Deer urine, ammo, and tree stands? Check. Fencing? Check. Big pipes that are used for plumbing, but I have no clue beyond that? Check. Birdseed choices set up like a salad bar? Check. Snacks? Check. Car things? Check. Cedar chips for pets? Check. Canning supplies and other stuff for the kitchen? Check. Horse treats? Check, check, check. They even have penicillin for pets! For $27 a bottle! Huh. I wonder if penicillin for pets is the same as penicillin for humans. read more

I placed an order that said it would be shipped within 1-2 business days. When I went hunting for their shipping policy, it says that the order fulfillment is 1-3 business days and Fedex Ground Shipping is approximately 1-2 days. Misleading, but whatever. On the end of the third business day, I called customer service because my order was still not shipped, and I needed my item, and I double checked the policy to ensure I would get my item on time. They told me the order had been fulfilled and I would get an email with updated tracking in a few minutes. I never got that email. I called back about 24 hrs later and tried to tell what had happened, the customer service rep interrupted me so many times, and wouldn't ever let me finish a single sentence. She told me that the order processing time was 3-5 business days and when I politely informed that's not what it says on the website, I double checked to make sure I'll get my item on time, she was like it doesn't say that, it says 1-2 business days once shipped and its only the end of the fourth business day and basically I don't care that you won't get your item, even after the last rep said the order had already been fulfilled. I have no idea when my order is going to be shipped, RK has lying, rude employees, I can't cancel the order, I'll now have to pay for return shipping because you can't even return items in store, I'm out $30 and still have to go find my item elsewhere. read more

I ordered two racks from Rural King and their site said it would be shipped within two days. After I paid, I received a confirmation and an email that said shipping would be delayed. There was a link to check my order, and it says I never ordered anything, however, they took my money. Rural King will not answer my inquiries, so I had to file a Paypal complaint (three days ago). They won't respond to that complaint either. COVID or not, Rural King is not legally entitled to take money and not deliver product or provide an explanation. Paypal gives them several weeks to resolve it, so my money is tied up. Will never shop with this company again. read more

I will never do business with these people again. I ordered a battery powered warming jacket based on an e-mail that Rural King sent me. It was on special so I ordered one. It came without a battery or charger so I ordered them on ebay. About a week after I ordered the jacket, I received an email that said the jacket was back ordered and they were cancelling the order. I called Rural King and they said they could not hold the order and if I re-ordered the jacket in the future it would NOT be at the sale price. I explained to them that I had already ordered batteries and a charger that I could not return and they could care less. When I asked to speak to a supervisor they flat refused. I love Rural King. If you haven't ever been in one, it's like Lowes, tractor supply company, boot barn, and Walmart all in 1, and they also sell guns and ammo..but way nicer than any Walmart.
