Yelp limits the number of characters you can put in your review and this is one review that I could not leave out any details out of. I am so frustrated and upset! I rarely ever leave reviews; great, good, or bad...but this has to be said! I encourage anyone who shops at this store regularly or who wants to learn a little bit more about the company culture to read the pictures below, in order. And to be Frank, this actually involves two stores, and the online ordering system, making this a systemic issue with all of Rural King as a franchise. The culture promoted and tolerated within this franchise is disgusting and the lack of professionalism and business knowledge is wholly subpar. I genuinely have no idea how they are as successful and as big of a frandchise name as they are. If I felt this was a one-off, bad luck, special circumstance issue, I would not have made this lengthy review, but the entire experience screams of this being the cultural "norm", being accepted by employees (all the way up to management), and being a systemic problem within the entire franchise that needs immediate attention and swift correction. Love this store, I bring my dog here a lot for bones. They give your doggo a free pig ear

I ordered 4 rocking chairs on Order #4570155. 1 was cancelled with no explanation. I received 3 rocking chairs to put together. 1 of the rocking chairs did not have a back. Bought a Mr Heater kerosene heater from them online. I had to go into the store and get it myself!! Then it didn't work had missing parts so I took it back. The chick at counter was nasty to me...I didn't realize i had to dump out the brand new container of Kerosene ($$) before they would take it back. My husband dumped kerosene and took it back. The same chick was nasty to him, told him they would give us a screw from the back to try fixing heater. The manager finally came over and gave us our refund. So unprofessional!! read more

Not necessarily anything the store employees did wrong but a critique to corporate. If you have the flags of the Armed Services, Candy bars raising money for the Gary Sinise Foundation and Patriotic "We proudly support our military!" decor blasted throughout the store. When I come to check out the cashier shouldn't be saying "I'm sorry, We don't honor military discount.." It makes the store look hypocritical read more

Over the years this location seems to have declined a little.. as there are a lot of empty shelves, selection is not as great as it used to be and the area where the pet food is kept is a bit chaotic. On a brighter note, I love the Gun Barn, I've never had a problem with getting help from employees if I needed it. The prices are really good. read more

Terrible customer service. I asked workers MULTIPLE times to help me buy chicks but we waited 20 minutes and nobody ended up coming. It was dirty and I do not recommend. The other Rural King locations are much better. Gun and amo prices are good though, as well as selection of chicks available, hence why I wanted to buy them. Nonetheless. I always think of the Huber Heights Rural King as kind of a sketchy store. The staff isn't too professional, the shelves may not be well stocked, but if you hunt around a bit you'll find good stuff. They have everything from tools to t-shirts to hot sauces to live chicks and bunnies. We used to go to Rural King regularly to buy our dog's specially dog food. There's not much rhyme or reason to the stacks of dog food, every time we go they seem to be half empty, but from what we can tell they no longer carry it. The cashiers are... interesting. Sometimes they're friendly. Other times you get the impression you've interrupted them doing something more important. There's no consistency in terms of a greeting or anything, and they've never offered to help me with heavy items. Despite what I've shared here, it's not a bad place. If I could give 0 stars I would. Three of the rabbits cages had no water. The rabbits were swimming in their own waste. There was a white bunny with yellow feet from standing in its own urine. I had to ask 5 employees to get these rabbits taken care of. Their excuse was whomever takes care of them called off. This was the first time going to Rural King and maybe the last. I left the items I was going to purchase without spending any money. Super upset. read more

Rural King is great for a lot of things and I love shopping there! Staff is friendly, and the place is dog friendly. Jeans are inexpensive (and while they carry some name brand stuff, their RK brand puts up with what I out mine through!) They have a decent tool selection, and I recently purchased my first cutting torch, a Hobart medium duty cutting torch set. Came complete with bottles, so all I had to do was exchange them and pay for gas (I wish the box had said they were empty, but RK doesn't control that). However, RK doesn't exchange virgin bottles as they lack labeling. And that makes sense. So I decided to buy gas from them. This is where the 4 star rating comes in... First was the oxygen bottle. I bought that and took it home. Hooked up the regulator and checked pressures. It seemed low, but it's my first set so I don't know. The next day I went back to get acetylene. I paid for the bottle and went outside to get it. The person helping me had no idea what to look for or how to tell if any cylinders had anything in them. I decided to get a refund and find a welding shop downtown that could help. As a final note, RK is a great place, and I will keep shopping there! However, I won't get my gasses there due to this experience. So I read more

I'm afraid I would have to echo some of the past reviews when talking about this location. As a whole I do enjoy Rural King and think there are always good deals to be had but this location is one of my least favorites. The store always seems to be unorganized and a mess with stock items always setting in the isles unattended. As for the sometimes unprofessional staff, during our checkout our clerk complained about having to scan our items (some food,some merchandise) because he wouldn't be able to eat for another hour. What happened to, did you fin everything you need? Or, thanks for stopping in and have a great day! Probably not something you would hear while checking out here. read more

We always go here to buy our dog food. It's about 5 dollars cheaper than the big chain Petstores. They also have a large variety or pet toys, pet grooming, pet healthcare, and pet treats for great prices. They also have a smattering of random home improvement products and tools that come in handy if you don't want to fight the crowds at Walmart or lowes. Love this place! read more

I came here for dog kennels because they do have great deals on them and I needed to buy a lot of them, but I'm really wondering if it's worth it. The prices on the tags don't correspond with the item in front of them. I couldn't get someone to come price check anything for me. When someone came over to us after waiting for 15 minutes he just said to "put it on our cart and check at the register." Well I'm not doing that with 10+ giant dog kennels. We finally checked them on our phones ourself by looking at the website. Shouldn't have had to do that. Then, we get up to the counter and me and my friend we're paying separately for our items. I was rang up first and my price came up to $390, which was way off! I did the math in my head and it should have been around $225. I told the cashier that wasn't right and SHE ARGUED WITH ME! I had to ask her to please clear out the transaction and ring everything up again. Reluctantly she did and my correct total was $226, as I thought it should be. She did not apologize for her mistake- thank god I was paying attention. I finish paying and as my friend (who already had her stuff on the counter behind me) scooted up, the cashier slammed a "register closed" sign up on the counter in front of her items and said "sorry I'm closed". Are you kidding me? You don't close a register when someone has been in line waiting for 10 mins already. But my friend went ahead and stepped over to the next line which had one family in front of her. In the middle of their transaction a DIFFERENT cashier just said "sorry I'll be back" and walked away towards the back of the store and was gone for over 5 minutes! She was the only cashier, the line was backing up and she didn't return with anything? Not sure where she went. During this time the original cashier came back to her register and re opened it. So my friend who should have been next in line, went back to her register and sat her stuff down. The original rude cashier looked at her and said "sorry I'm closed" WITH HER LIGHT ON AND AN OPEN SIGN UP?!? We were so mad she left her stuff on the counter and we walked out. Not sure if either of us had ever been treated so poorly by employees before. Who runs this place? You need to have a serious chat with your employees or you'll keep seeing a steady decline in business. I would leave zero starts if I could. read more

Rural King has engaged in a policy of not processing guns in their store that were previously purchased online, instead choosing to stock and sell more with no regard to customers that had already purchased, paid for, and waiting for their firearms. Had a horrible experience, manager was rude the second we walked in the door and had questions, ended up being so rude we didn't purchase anything and returned our items, other managers witnessed the first encounter and did nothing and nobody said anything until the 2nd time he came up being rude and the cashier commented "I can't believe he is talking so horrible to you and keeps interrupting you". I just love walking around this store. Its kinda dirty but I always manage to buy something. Its close to my house so I can swing by there anytime to pick up home improvement and car stuff and I usually walk out with some kind of clothing. read more

The Rural King occupies a former K-Mart. Nothing fancy in the layout, but it is good to see the place being used, it is on a busy corner (Troy Pike (Ohio 202) and Taylorsville. High time some good competition came to the local Lowes, Sherwin Williams and WalMart. Seems the chain is a longtime privately owned entity out of Illinois, sort of like a Tractor Supply but different. Though in a suburban locale, they seem to cater to the farmer, gardner, horse owner and small stock owners. A homeowner like me can find good prices on hardware. You can purchase bulk grass seed by weight or hardware fasteners by weight-not the stupid plasticwrapped package of 7 you are forced to buy elsewhere when you need only one. All kinds of high fashion clothing (if you call Carhaart high fashion), cheap jeans, big boots. High concntrate lawn chemicals, grease guns, tractor parts. And a good place to check out the chicks. Though forbidden by law to have chickens in my locale, some folks like to raise chickens and ducks-they sell all kinds as well as pet and stock supplies. Neat place!
