Dr Rupel Shah is the worst doctor I have ever visited. Absolutely no help and no time for me. Visiting her is a total waste of time.

Dr. Rupal Shah is amazing! I've been her patient for the last 10 years. She's super smart, efficient, and really gets straight to the point--in the best way possible. She doesn't sugarcoat things, but she's never harsh; she just tells it like it is and helps you actually understand what's going on with your health. I love that she's thorough but still super respectful of your time. You can tell she genuinely cares about her patients and wants you to feel informed and confident about your care. Earlier this year, I contacted Anthem BCBS to inform them I would be going to a physician for an annual physical exam. I contacted the office of Dr. Rupal Shah to request an annual physical exam. The representative did not inform me that my first visit would be called an "establishing care" visit, or that there would be a fee. If I had known, I would not have made the appointment. On 2/26/24, at the office, before the exam began, I was charged a fee. I asked why that was, as my visit should have been covered in full by Anthem BCBS. During the visit, Dr. Shah stated that she did not do Well Woman Exams on the first visit. That is not what I was at the office for. I called Anthem BCBS on 2/27/24 to explain what occurred, and the representative stated that he called Dr. Shah's office. He was informed by a representative that an annual physical had not been performed. I called Dr. Shah's office to discuss the situation with their representative, Rose. She stated she did not know who made my appointment. She suggested I contact the billing department at 626-332-0233. The representative in the billing department stated that they had "nothing to do with" this issue. read more

Dr Shah is an excellent and wonderful doctor. I've been seeing her since I was in my late teens. She has always been a very caring doctor (unlike many out there) and always listens to me. Getting in to see her has never been a problem (where other doctors schedule you weeks and sometimes months out). She cares about finding out what's wrong and getting answers. One thing Dr. Shah should be aware of is the fact that her very outdated office has very thin walls, allowing me to hear and understand about 85% of her conversation with the patient in the next room. She treated this man with compassion and care, taking her time with him and answering all his questions. Although I was on time to my appointment she was 30 minutes late seeing me. I could hear her clearly speaking to him unhurriedly, so I expected she would treat me the same and not rush me even though she was late and kept me waiting. However she seemed prepared to give me about five minutes of her time from the moment she came in, speaking brusquely and not really listening to my answers. I was there to see her for a delicate and sensitive matter. Not only did she not bother to tune into the fact that it was an emotional issue for me, she dismissed my questions, answered me with one word answers, and attempted to leave twice before I was finished asking questions. I made my appointment, waited several days for it, and when it finally came I was hoping to get some answers but instead left with more questions and more upset than when I came. My whole appointment lasted all of 10 minutes and that's being generous. Dr. Shah's bedside manner is horrible, she was rude and dismissive and acted put out by my having more questions after she gave me one word answers. I would not go back to her nor would I recommend anyone else go see her unless you would like patients in the next room to be able to overhear your entire conversation. If you would like to be rushed, dismissed, and left with many unanswered questions due to her nonverbal clues such as standing up, putting on her fanny pack, closing up her laptop, and walking towards the door, then this is the doctor for you. I thought maybe she was simply late for another appointment but as soon as she walked out the door I heard her go back into the room next to mine and again check on the patient next to me and speak to him in a kind and unhurried manner. I didn't see any other patients there and the waiting room was empty. I am not doubting she's busy but I deserve respect and I deserve equal treatment. I don't know what her reasoning might be as this was only my second time seeing her and the first time was even more brief than the second- I was simply picking up paperwork that time. Oh and her business card says and I quote "I would like to treat my patients the way I would like to be treated. " Good luck with that lady. Maybe it should say "some patients- but not all" Never once was I rude or angry- I was kind of bewildered by the speed of her visit with me and her dismissive tone and attitude. Still in shock. My wife and I have been Dr. Rupal Shah's patients for more than 20 years. Her diagnostic skill is excellent. She listens to patience carefully and prescribes correct meds. Of course, as a doctor she has to be honest and upfront, strictly follow medical and insurance guide lines and that is what she does. Worst doctors office ever... she and her staff are always rushed and over the phone the staff is rude. She was supposed to call for authorization for a med for me and insurance verified she never submitted the paperwork that would have saved me thousands of dollars . Don't use this doctor . she has some crazy rules about certain numbers of visits in order to get prescriptions that aren't required by your insurance carrier but just a way for her to bill your insurance. I've switched doctors recently and decided to write a review about Dr. Shah. I was with her for a few years and chose her out of convenience because she was very close to where I live. The pros: -It was always fast to get an appointment -The office was clean, if not a little run down and outdated, the whole building looks like it may have been apartments retrofitted to be offices. -She was good about giving you referrals when you asked for them. Cons: - A lot of the women at the front desk were kind of rude (the girls who took vitals were nice though!) - Dr. Shah didn't really listen to your concerns and visits lasted less than 5 minutes tops. In fact, I voice recorded a visit to show my husband so he could see how she spoke to me and the recording was maybe 2-3 minutes long. That was the entirety of my visit. Other visits have not been much longer. I'm not sure if it's her tone but she has a way of making you feel like a silly child when you want to discuss your health concerns more in-depth. Maybe she just has too many patients and not enough time for them all. - Have to go in for visits just to get a refill on medications she told me I'd have to take for life. I take a pill for hypothyroidism and ran out, thought the pharmacy could just contact her office and a refill would be approved but they told me I had to come in and see her. Why? Dr. Shah is a straight up doctor. She doesn't sugar coat anything. Tells you what you need to do and expects you to do it. She follows through with labs and other testing. Her staff are great. You can talk and joke with them. Always professional. Any billing problems are taken care of immediately. read more

Dr. Shah was appointed as my GP by my insurance, and I'm incredibly disappointed that they wasted my time sending me to her practice. She is incredibly brusque and very rude; she even cut me off multiple times while I was trying to speak to her and explain the issues I've been experiencing - and when I went in for an appointment to talk about some real health concerns, my concerns were brushed off like they were nothing, and I felt like I was being treated like a "little kid." Then, when I called again to talk about these concerns after having blood tests done, I was brushed off again and told that I would need to "make an appointment" - but I already had, to no avail. I will be calling my insurance to switch doctors, and highly caution anyone else to do the same before making a similar mistake. read more

This doctor literally just wants to suck all the money out of you. She could care less about the patients. Every time I go in she's very short worded & barely explains what's wrong or gives a solution. Pretty much prescribes a medication that won't even work & tells you to come back in a week to pay again for crappy advice. I had a question about test results and she wasn't even available. So the nurse took down my number and said the doctor would call when she got a chance. NEVER GOT A CALL BACK! The whole office is completely unprofessional. I gave this place many chances. Beware of this office and their dubious charges.I dont trust this office and even the doctor. I have been a patient for almost 3 years and have had past annual visit without copaying. This year they charged me $15 for annual physicals. The office girl said, for HMO you copay for physicals and PPO you dont, which was a complete lie. When l called my insurance, they confirmed what l know that you don't pay for annual physicals. When l explained the insurance policy about copay to the office, they refused to give me back my money. Dr. Shah herself told me copay is requured when in infact it was not. They gave me the run around with false excuses why they cannot refund my money. I went back the next day with my insurance company on the phone to explain the insurance policy to them. The office girl then told my insurance that l didn't come for physical but office visit which was a complete lie in the face. I challenged her and told her l would be filing grievance against the office. Shortly after the doctor came out with a $15 dollar reimbursement check. Take your healthcare needs else where. If this doctor and the office cannot be honest about their medical charges, it makes me wonder what else they are not honest about, when it comes to your health. read more

I've been going to Shah for years. She is a no nonsense doctor. She will talk with you and discuss what is bothering you. Takes most insurances. There is a $.50 fee to pay your co-pay with a credit card. I would highly recommend her to anyone. She is willing to use good health standards, exercise and diet to help your health before automatically putting you on meds. They are updating their medical software and now add a image to your profile. I believe they are remodeling the bathroom. The lounge is a bit dated in the office. There is a flat screen but has been either down or off in my last two of three visits. read more

My 94 year old mother is a patient of Dr. Shah. About 2 months ago my mother was leaving her book club and said her legs felt funny. Since then, my mother has lost all mobility, has become incontinent, weighs barely 85 pounds And we still do not have a diagnosis. Dr. Shah has been extremely slow to respond to my mothers medical needs. As my mothers primary physician, it is her responsibility to order tests, lab work, scans, in a timely manner. She has not. Dr. Shah should be an advocate for my mother, communicating with the network of medical Staff who have done lab work, CT Scans, MRI, X-rays . She has not. In fact, just the opposite. Tests are scheduled weeks In advance only to be cancelled the day before or day of. No rescheduling is mentioned unless it is my mothers family advocating for her. It might help if Dr. Shah answered her office phone but she does not. In my opinion, Dr. Shah is incompetent, a poor diagnostician, makes too many mistakes, is not available, moves too slowly to arrange and follow up with test schedules. While writing this review, another test was cancelled today. My poor mother cried upon hearing that news as she must arrange for a driver, and present herself neatly, which takes a toll on her physically. Old school doctor office. I've been off work since mid August due to injury. My doctor couldn't file for my disability electronically (which as of 2023, Disability is going electronically ONLY) It's 10/04 and I still haven't received any disability. Doctors reply was Disability takes a long time anyway. So if she knows, why prolonging the process by deciding to not fill out paperwork prior to apts. Doctor said at four weeks, she'd send me to a specialist and follow up with X-rays to make sure all good. That didn't happen. Today's appointment was not even 1 minute inside when they knocked on her door to let her know she missed a patient. So because she missed a patient, I got Onondaga one minute with her. She was sending me out requesting three week appointment until I asked her for X-rays and possibly therapy. She replied with I don't think therapy might be right at this time. The "I think" kills me! Im due to work (sitting down for 9 hours) in one month. Asked me if work can give me free time to stand? Lol but she's the doctor, she should know all requests need to be done from a doctor. Also, when I dropped off disability paperwork, they never had time fill out the information. They waited until my second week appointment to pick them up. So I'm exchange they wanted my $15 co payment and my insurance to pay them. They're excuse was, "there's only one doctor and too many patients." But before I was seen for my appointment, the paperwork as filled out handed to me. I hate coming here! Also when I'd call, front desk would give me their generic message..."yes I let doctor know she needs to fill out your disability forms but she's busy." While I'm a single mother of three with broken tailbone and a house, bills, and food to pay. They don't care for patients. Unfortunately I can't afford better insurance due to single mother of three. Im not one to write reviews but this lady Rose really got me going and should be retrained... I was seen on 11/11/2019, the receptionist Rose was extremely rude and not knowledgeable of her position! She advised me of my copayment would need to be payed before seeing the doctor, I explained to her that I meet my out of pocket/deductible and i should not have a copayment. She demanded that i pay and if i was correct, i would get my copayment refunded through my insurance which is incorrect. I payed Dr Shah's office, not my insurance, which tell's me she does not know what she is talking about. I went ahead and payed to avoid conflict being that it was my first visit with Dr Shah. I had a follow up a week later and had to deal with the same sh**. This time i called my insurance myself and they confirmed to me that i did not have a copay since i met my deductible. I asked Rose to talk to my insurance (on my phone since she was not getting the correct information " if she even called ") but she refused to get on my phone. So i left with out seeing the Dr. I had to contact the doctors billing department to get refund which was a battle and took over 2 months but i did get refunded. If only she did her job and contacted my insurance in the first place i would have been seen the second time! A lot of the time these receptionist do not know and are going off the automated system with the insurance and will charge you even through you met your out of pocket. Just lazy I guess! The most unethical and incompetent doctor I ever met. My wife had a kidney stone and in a lot of pain. For a serious situation like her, Rupal didn't even spend 5 minutes with her evaluating her situation. When I asked for a referral for a second opinion for surgery, she refused to do that. When I told her that I will take legal action, she said "Don't you threaten me with that - I have no shortage of patients" and then she hung up the phone on me. I would not advise any female to go to Dr. Shah. I recently moved from across the country and with my new insurance, I decided to give her a try since she was close to my house. I do have to start by saying that the front desk staff was very friendly, and for that I give a lot of credit. The office itself is very outdated. I did not feel as if the office was a particularly "clean" environment, especially for a physicians office. There was dust in the corners, and the rooms were very dimly lit. I first went for a consultation, which lasted a total of 5 minutes. I had some specific concerns and was actually laughed at for asking questions. After the very short consultation I was asked to come back for my PAP. The only positive about the exam was that it was so short that I hardly knew it had happened--with the exception I was so concerned. The exam light looked like it came from an old dorm room (Again, noting the outdated office). I never received any results. A month later I asked to have a prescription filled, which should have been no problem since I had already received my PAP with her. I was asked to schedule another appointment for an exam. At that point I decided to try another doctor, and my experience was a million times better at the new office. The doctor saw me and was willing to perform an exam the same day for no extra charge. I would not recommend Dr. Shah to anyone. read more

If I can give Rupal 0 stars I would. I chose her to be my mom's provider since Rupal speaks the same language as my mom. My mom forgets and doesn't ask the questions she wants to ask when she is with the provider because she gets nervous so I used to go in with her and ask all the questions but due to Covid she is only allowing patients to go in the room and family members have to wait outside and I understand that its for everyone's safety. So I told my mom to stay on call with me so I can ask the questions and help her understand what's Rupal is saying because my mom doesn't understand medical terminology, so my mom told Rupal that my daughter is on call and she rudely said to my mom that you are not allowed to have anyone on call...and she repeated the same thing when she was done her consultation. SHE WAS VERY RUDE. SHE COULD HAVE SAID IT NICELY BUT I GUESS SHE DOESN'T KNOW ANY HUMANISM. SHE DIDN'T NEDD TO REPEAT HER SELF. After we left I called Rupal and asked what does she wants me to do if she doesn't let me in with my mom SHE WAS AGAIN RUDE OVER THE PHONE AND SAID THAT I SPEAK THE SAME LANGUAGE AS YOUR MOM DOES SHE NOT UNDERSTAND THAT?. I MEAN AT THIS POINT SHE WAS JUST MAKING MY MOM FEEL STUPID....she needs to go back to school and learn how to treat a patient as a whole and not just treat the disease.
