They fit me in the wrong sized shoes and it caused injury. My has doctor told me I need to go to a sports podiatrist to address the damage done. When I went in for help finding new running shoes, I brought in the four pairs of running shoes I owned at the time so I could show them what I liked and disliked about different models. They pushed me to donate them, since I wouldn't need them anymore with my new shoes in tow, so I had no shoes in reserve to run in when the new ones didn't fit. I do not fault the sales associate who helped me, because he was just a teenager, and very kind and intelligent. I believe the responsibility falls on training and management, not him as an individual. I missed the return window because I live a few hours away and do not drive. I contacted them to communicate this. However, if I had been fit properly in the first place, the return window wouldn't have been an issue. When I reached out a month ago, I really just expected an apology for their negligence and some ownership for the failures in service. They made no efforts to take responsibility for fitting me in too small shoes, or take ownership for what could be reasonably expected of them as a specialty running shoe business, or acknowledge that my dissatisfaction was due to their failures not just buyers remorse. Instead they talked up how amazing and wonderful their staff are. They did invite me to come to their store and get refit, and this seemed promising. I scheduled a visit to follow up in person, arranging a trip to Denver, hours of driving, and the person I was meant to meet with was not there. Nobody at the location knew I was coming. At this visit I was measured and told the shoes they had fit me in previously were too small, but no efforts were made on their part to rectify that except encouraging me to by another pair in a half size up and another pair in a different model. After all this they offered me a gift card without specifying an amount or delivery method and then ghosted me for two weeks despite my following up. Finally after two weeks, they told me they were sorry my expectations weren't met, they'd done all they could do and were closing the case. I followed up with the owner directly and after waiting several days he has not responded. I have not gotten a gift card, an apology for their role in this, or any sort of resolution. To say this has been a disappointment would be an understatement, as I sit here icing my bruised and blistered feet, a massage gun to my poor hips that have suffered from my altered gait. read more

Not only was he kind but he was very educated on active shoes. Additionally he had his dog there who super well behaved and so cute. I really am surprised I had never written a review for my closest Runner's Roost - I've been shopping here since 2010 when I was training for a marathon with a local running group that Runners Roost sponsored. It goes without saying that if I repeatedly shop somewhere for 10+ years, then it's on my five star list. I appreciate that the staff are experienced runners and listen to my fit preferences and my experiences wearing various brands over the years. They will review my gait on the treadmill if it's been a while. Sometimes I go in for new shoes and I find the perfect fit on the first try. And then other times, it takes eight pairs to find my Goldilocks fit. But, they don't blink an eye or get inpatient with me. This summer I needed a pair of trail shoes when I was going to my mom's for a few weeks. They were out of my preferred shoe color in my size and tracked down the shoes from another location and had them shipped directly to me at my mom's house. It saved me running all over at the last minute. I primarily shop online for most things but never for running shoes. It's not worth saving $10 online for shoes when I can try shoes out and get the perfect fit and keep my money local. read more

I just left this place empty handed because of the absolute rudeness and lack of customer care. I am just recovering from a foot surgery and need to purchase a pair of Hokkas which are anywhere from $120 to $200. We waited patiently for help. The sales person greeted my husband in a very friendly manner: "How can help you, sir?"...My husband replied pointing to me: "Actually it's my wife that is looking". The snooty sales rep looked me up and down, and sighed, "Oh", and then went off to help someone else who was waiting for way less time. The other sales people ignored us as if we weren't there. Obviously we left and vowed never to give this horrible place our business. Now I'll go out on my sore foot to a different company, and hopefully find a friendlier reception and help with shoes. I did not enjoy my experience at this store. The sales associate I got placed with was rude, arrogant, and inappropriate. His name tag quite literally said "grumpy". He didn't listen to a thing I had to say and didn't even analyze my gait at all. He offered me two shows and told me the on clouds are what every woman gets. I should have asked more questions or asked to use the treadmill but he was so rude and making me uncomfortable, I just wanted to get out of there. Spent $150 for uncomfortable shoes. I'm a rookie when it comes to running. I recently moved to Denver and joined the bandwagon and signed up for a half-marathon. I had been training in my 2-year old worn out Reeboks and I desperately needed to get a new pair of good running shoes. I had heard from a friend that Runners Roost personalizes each customer's experience and that they would be the solution to all my needs. To my satisfaction, this was all true. I walked into the store and was greeted by an employee who asked me what it was I needed. I gave him the gist of my situation (new runner, old shoes, half marathon coming up, yadi yada) and he probably spent no LESS than two hours with me. I ran on a treadmill and he analyzed my gait and the type of shoe that would best fit how I move. I tried on many many shoes and he was very patient with my indecisiveness. I asked if he worked on commission (since I, myself, have worked in retail and am slightly familiar with the dynamics of a working business), and he replied no. Knowing this was comforting because I knew he was not trying to sell me the most expensive shoe out there. I picked a pair of New Balances that felt great on my feet and he assured me that if the shoes did not work well during my half marathon, the store would gladly accept a return. Since I'm a new runner, I am still getting used the fluctuations in energy while I run. He guided me to all of their energy and protein supplements and bars. I picked out a few packet of the "Honey Stingers" which you're supposed to chew on every few miles to replenish your electrolyte and caloric intake. My half marathon went extremely well, thanks to Runners Roost. The shoes were worth every penny (Granted, I was extremely deadbeat the next day. But that has nothing to do with the shoes.) and I ate Honey Stinger Chews every 2 miles for the 13.1 mile race. I would recommend Runners Roost to any runner out there - from rookie to elite! read more

I don't run, but I'm the owner of flat, wide feet and a poor gait that mean my choice of shoe is very important. In town for an extended business trip, I was spending my weekends hiking the foothills of the Rockies -- and running into serious foot pain with my current shoes. I knew something had to change! I found Runners Roost by googling "denver gait analysis" and sure enough, they offer a simple gait analysis right there in the store. I came in and worked with Sandy, who was really great. She gave me her full and undivided attention, did the analysis, and then brought out many different pairs of shoes to try. After trying on quite a few, I found a pair that worked. The kicker? After I put the shoes on, I noticed that one of my plastic orthotics was making a terrible squeaking noise on every footstep. Their onsite PT, Doug Barenburg, was there and helpfully filed down the edge for me for free! Great service, great pair of shoes. I'm really glad I stopped by and would recommend this store to anyone. read more

In today's tech driven economy, the only reason to actually go into a store for goods like shoes is quality customer service, and the service at Runners Roost is absolutely terrible. Why pay more for service when it's subpar? Not to mention their shoes are overpriced in general. This establishment will falter. Each time I've been in (at least 5) they've had high school and college kids running the shop who don't care about doing right by the customer, and just want to make a sale for what I assume is their chunk of commission. Shoe knowledge is quite limited and I've found myself sitting around waiting to be helped when there are maybe two or three other parties in the store. My most recent experience was the straw that broke the camel's back, when I went in to pick up a pair of shoes that I had special ordered through runners roost. I tried the shoes on and they were too big. The lady who was helping me said she'd place an order for a half size down, and that I was good to go. Feeling unsure about this, I called two days later to find that the order had not been placed. The person helping me on the phone said they'd place the order. Three days later I get a call from the store saying the shoe is now on back order and won't be available for another two weeks. They did not offer to expedite shipping (I assume they'd have to eat the cost or pass it onto me) and standard shipping was quoted at 7-10 business days. All in, a month after my initial order is when I'd receive the shoes - cancelled my order and bought online (for cheaper). They lost me as a customer for good, I will never be back. read more

I have conflicting thoughts on this place. Yes, they are likely to have one of the best selections around and will probably have your size, even if you are a women's 11 like me. I believe the people here are knowledgeable about running and can, in all likelihood, get you in the right shoe. Why the 3 stars then? You may have to know a secret handshake to get them to be nice to you. My husband and I joke about "secret handshake" types of spots and this is one of them. My first experiences here were more positive, but as time progresses I get what people say about the customer service here. I have found runners and triathletes to be really wonderful and encouraging people and just don't feel that sense here. I suggest going in if you don't know what shoe you need to be in and maybe get that first pair there. Then, re-order or purchase what you need from a place where the staff is friendly and seems to appreciate your business. read more

I'm an avid runner, but I certainly seek out advice from other runners on shoes, especially at so called "running stores". I went into Runners Roost for the third time hoping this time the employees would stop acting snotty and help me. While looking at the shoe wall finally one of the employees came over and asked if I needed any help-duh! I asked her about the Asics Kinvara and she said ya they're a good shoe-awkward pause, why wouldn't you ask me if I wanted to try them on!!! I asked to try them on to which she begrudgingly said ok. She literally had a poor attitude the entire time. Then, when I asked for a bigger size shoe to try on it was as if I had asked her to move the Rocky Mountains to California. She once again brought them out and was less than helpful. I asked her one more question before I was at my wit's end-which neutral shoe did she recommend. Her reply, "It doesn't really matter they're all the same." I said k thanks and walked out. I will never go to this store again! Part of me wants to write a letter to the manager-I'll continue driving to Road Runner Sports in Westminster where they know what they are talking about and aren't rude. read more

I have a confession. I am beginning to enjoy this thing called "running in the park." Believe me, my ankles and knees have not yet fully started to embrace this new concept called exercise, but they are doing okay since I got my new runners from Runner's Roost. I had some reservations about the Colorado Boulevard location based on the comments of other reviewers, but I didn't encounter anything but helpfulness when I stopped in a few months ago. To be fair, I only tried on a few pairs of shoes and didn't even glance at the sale shoes - I spent about $90 and feel okay about that decision - but you can definitely get some decent shoes under that mark. My sales guy had me walk around barefoot so he could gauge my running style - apparently I'm an overpronator? - and was totally patient while I did my mental pros and cons for each shoe. When I wear out this pair (that could take about 10 years, at my pace) I will come back again for sure. read more

I don't look like a runner. I look like someone who could give a really good hug. Or someone who could enjoy the hell out of some chocolate. Or someone who would be able to tell you where to get a really good burger. I am all of those things....but I am also a runner. I run about 40 miles a week, and love it. I've done 6 half marathons (by the end of the month that count may change to 8) and a full marathon. I run outside no matter how damn cold it is. I run with my dog, by myself, and I'll even run back and forth on the single stretch of shoveled sidewalk in 2 feet of snow if I have to. Why? Because running makes me happy. When I go to races, everyone thinks that my skinny friend is the runner, and I am the cheering section (she finds this hilarious). So when a place like Runner's Roost, a place that I consider a resource for "real runners" treats ME like a "real runner", they get mad respect. I'm sure it doesn't hurt that I am friendly and happy and genuinely want to be in there learning from them. I'm sure it doesn't hurt that I ask for what I want. Even so, I have gone in a couple of times with a problem or a concern about running, having no idea what to do, and they have always helped. I have bought shoes, compression socks, and even a Garmin here, and every time they have been knowledgeable, respectful, and happy to chat with me. I hope that whatever customer service awesomeness I have experienced isn't transitory (it doesn't seem to be) and whatever customer service nastiness other people have experienced IS transitory, because this place is one of the few convenient running resources in South Denver and I am thrilled to give them my business. read more

I was leery about going here to get shoes after reading some of the reviews here. But I am glad I did, because I had a really nice experience. It didn't start off that great though. I first went in on a weekday afternoon and found that it was actually more crowded than I was expecting. I was not greeted when I entered the store. I walked over to the shoe wall and just kind of stood there looking at the shoes for about 60 seconds. A sales associate (Kelsey) came over and asked if I needed any help. She had me walk in my bare feet with my pants pulled up, diagnosed me as as having some sort of pronation problem (I don't remember which one,) and then went downstairs and came back with five or six different pairs of shoes for me to try on. She prepped and laced up the shoes for me (old school shoe store style,) and offered me the use of the treadmill so I could run in them. She checked my size and told me that she thought I should go up a half size, but I insisted that she shoes were fine (as good or better than the crap shoes I had been running in, ) so I picked a pair, paid, and went on my merry way. After that experience, I decided I would give them 4-stars on yelp, subtracting one for the lack of a greeting upon entering and the slight delay in being offered service. Fast forward to a few days later when I run in my new shoes a couple times and my index toenail starts turning purple. Turns out, Kelsey was right all along--I should have gotten a bigger size. She told me when I bought the shoes that I had 30 days to return them if they didn't work out. So I bit the bullet and returned the shoes, even though I hate to return stuff when it's not defective, because the company takes a loss. But I guess that's really just my own issue though, isn't it? So this time I went back on a weekend morning. It was even busier, but it looked like they had free bagels and coffee! Alex was at the register and when I told him I wanted to exchange the shoes for a larger size, it was all service with a smile. He got me the new pair of shoes, checked my toes in them, and did the exchange without any of the 'tude you might get from a lesser sales associate. The ease of the exchange process is what earned Runner's Roost that elusive 5th star. As I was leaving, I noticed that they had a baker's rack of shoes outside that they were selling real cheap (40 bucks? 20 bucks? I don't really remember,) I'm guessing those are the shoes that stubborn people like me exchange. It seems like some good deals could be had there, because I know I only wore my first pair a few times, and always on the treadmill. In closing, I would definitely go back to Runner's Roost. You can support a local company with knowledgeable sales associates, and a wide selection of running related items. read more

If you're a "real runner" or are training to do your first 10k or longer run, you should give this place a visit. They're happy to help you pick out the perfect shoes for your feet. We all pronate, supinate, or have flat feet to a certain degree and having a "professional" help you pick out the perfect shoe (not just because of the way it looks) is well worth it. If you've never been truly in love with a running shoe, more than likely, you chose the wrong shoe for your foot - this guys will help you find your match-made-in-heaven. You're going to have to pay 100% retail here, but heck, you'd do the same thing at other places in the mall or one of the big box sporting goods stores, but the service you get is much better. read more

I am not a runner, but I was hoping to get started as one. I came to Runners Roost at the advice of my husband and the reviews online. A girl who was very pleasant and appeared to be somewhat knowledgeable helped me. I explained that I knew nothing about buying shoes, and had always just fit myself in stores that put all the shoes out in boxes under display shoes. I did the whole treadmill run. I was sized in the foot measure. Yes, she got distracted in the middle and went to go help someone else mid-way, but she came back. And this girl convinced me, because I didn't know any better myself, that I, a 7.5 to 8 normally, should be buying a size 9 in running shoes, and doing what she called a runner's knot. $150 was charged to my card and included some brand new socks to try out too. Four weeks later, I had blisters the size of half dollars so bad on my heels that I was forced to seek medical attention at the ER. It took me a month to recover, and, even then, the blisters weren't fully gone. I had to toss the shoes. When I called the store, I'm pretty sure I got the girl who helped me in the first place. She told me that she "saw" me in the system, but I couldn't return them. I needed to call Asics instead and see if they said I could return them. I plan to just take my business to another running store. But, all in all, I would say that I would not go back. Maybe it was just the girl I worked with, but I would take my business elsewhere. read more

That being said, I have always had good service at Runners Roost on Colo Blvd. I would give them 4 stars however their selection of sale shoes is about half what it used to be. This process for choosing a pair of running shoes is similar to the process Harry Potter undergoes to choose a wand. You have to try out many, and in the end, it chooses you. Going to an actual running store Is a thing of beauty, for this reason. I am going to split the difference between the awesome reviews and the not so awesome reviews and go for a 3. Reason being is that the customer service is like the girl with the curl. When it's good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's bad. One thing is for sure, it isn't consistent. I'm a pretty easy customer. I've been running distance races since 2002 and I replace my shoes with the same model I have used since then 1-2 times a year, depending on which races I've been training for or have lined up. Sometimes I come in and the sales associates are on point-helpful, kind, quick to help out. Sometimes they are tough to track down and a bit distant. It's tough not knowing what experience you will encounter. I will say that when I took my husband in for his first trip they were incredible-watched him walk barefoot, did a gait analysis on the treadmill, recommended a few different stability shoes and were patient and answered his questions as he waffled over which pair to buy. I will take any opportunity I can get to buy a new pair of shoes,and this is(most of the time) a great place to buy them! read more

I took my elderly mother into the Lakewood Runners Roost and Joel did an absolutely fantastic job with her. I know she probably wasn't the ideal demographic they wanted to be working with, but she was treated with such a personal touch and amazing attention to detail that I doubt if she could have gotten this from any other place. Apparently my experience at this store was very different from the experience of most other customers that have posted here. I'm brand new to running, so maybe that makes a difference in how impressed we are by respective customer service experiences. Eric was the sales rep that helped both the Ladyfriend and I. He didn't make a gait analysis on the treadmill, and I suppose that would've been a proper test to do, but he still gave me more assistance than I've ever had in a shoe store in my entire life. He watched us walk to at least make a minimal analysis, which, again, is above and beyond what I normally have gotten at shoe stores. He brought out several types of shoes, explained by he brought them out, and how they were appropriate for the way that we walked, had us try them on, go run on the sidewalk to see how we felt, etc. He also talked to us about socks and other gear to give us any information we needed. He was super helpful, very friendly, and after an initial 1mi test, he recommended some great shoes. We'll see how they hold up for my Tuesday night Wash Park run. Next time I'll have to try the Runners Roost on Wads because everyone seems to like that one better, but for now this one isn't far from home and wasn't so bad for me. read more

I'm not so sure that I would call myself a runner (as of yet that is) but I knew that I was in need of some new running shoes and I'd heard good things about Runners Roost. I went in on a busy Saturday afternoon and was greeted by a handful of staff members. I went over to browse the wall of shoes wondering how I was going to know what to get. After looking around for a few minutes I was approached by a sales woman asking if I needed help. She had me roll up my pants to my calves and take a walk so that she could figure out what sort of shoe would be best. Then she pulled 3 different pairs from the stock room and had me try them out. After a bit I made my decision and got rung up and headed home. I LOVE my new running shoes they are so much better than the shoes that I was running in and I'm hoping that this will be the kick I need to make the difference in working out. The service I received Saturday was great and I would definitely come back here. While I know I spent a bit more on shoes than I normally do it was worth it because I know that they are the correct shoes for me. read more

The salespeople are very friendly especially Ashton and Doug. We didn't realize Doug was the chiropractor on site. Even though Doug wasn't a salesperson, he helped all of us at once. The salespeople are very knowledgable and answered all of my questions. Ashton was able to pick out several brands for me and I tested out each shoe by running on the treadmill and running outside on the sidewalk. But, I recently bought a pair of sneakers (yes I say sneakers) from another establishment that hurt my feet so much I could hardly walk. I figured I needed some professional assistance with my shoe selection other than "those look pretty". Carol, who helped me, was wonderful. She analyzed my gate and had me try several pairs of shoes that were appropriate for me to compare how they felt. There are a number of Runners Roost locations around Denver, but this one has certainly come to be my favorite. I love the atmosphere, the community feeling you get when you walk into the store, and the selection of clothing and footwear on all levels for what I need. The gait analysis and general interest in your well-being as a runner set the Roost above a lot of the other experiences I've had with running stores in the Denver area. Plus, you never know that many of the people helping you out at the store are some of the greatest runners in Colorado. It's a great experience all around. Plus, a weekly fun run on Wednesday nights at 6pm, with gear to try out, giveaways, and free light appetizers and drinks?! How can you beat that?! Typically 20-40 people of all paces, and a great place to meet other like-minded runners and walkers in the community. Definitely check this place out whether you are a first time runner, or have been doing it for years. The Runners Roost supports so many of the local names, it's easy to find the most innovative products and techniques from around the Colorado region simply by stopping by the store. Amy is the best! I needed my first pair of running shoes, and I walked in knowing NOTHING about what I needed or what made a shoe good or bad. Amy worked with me for over an hour (checking my stride on the treadmill, explaining shoe choices to me, actually asking me what I felt about the shoes instead of just trying to make a sale, etc.). I went to this location to pick up a race packet and hung around to do a little shopping. The main problem with this location.....is the location. The store itself is fine (though maybe a little small), but the parking is horrible. And just getting in and out of the parking lot is tough. I think I'll stick with the other locations just because their easier for me to get in and out of. read more
