I used Runkle when I first moved into my house in Bastrop 4 years ago. They installed a brand new pump for me and I was very pleased. So now when I started having problems with what looked like sand in the pool I called them and their service tech came out. He told me that yes it was sand and that I would have to have a new part which would run around $800. He said I could probably postpone it a while but I needed to get the pool cleaned because they had equipment that would pick up even really fine sand and that way I could tell what was happening on a day-to-day basis. When their guy came out to clean the pool he said it was actually not sand in the pool. He wasn't sure exactly what it was but he did clean the pool. By the time I got home later that day everything has settled back down in the pool and it still looked dirty. I called Runkle to see exactly what was going on since one person told me it was sand and the next person told me it wasn't. I got the runaround during several phone calls and never really got a straight answer. I'm just glad the second guy was honest enough to tell me the sand was not coming out of my pump, and that saved me $800. However, I still have the sediment in my pool and have not been able to get it all out. But I definitely will not call them again. read more

Runkle Pools is a great company, with very knowledgeable employees. They keep our pool sparkling.

They were recommended from a family member and close friend...Never called me back. Sadly I waited anyway despite being told that very thing from other friends who tried to get a quote as well. Whoever takes the messages is either terrible at the job or whomever is supposed to call back chooses not to. Either way they missed 3 potential sales I know of personally. Be careful Runkle there are competitors I know driving in from all over taking your potential clients. Side note 2cents.... your Facebook account has very little pool related information as other competitors have picture of jobs and contact link that responds within minutes. Family photos are cute and perhaps warm family business feel but I need to see your business work not personal. I went there hoping for a better outcomes than rumors of poor communication but instead confirmed and provided little to no wow pool factors. read more

Dave Runkle and his crew are amazing! Dave Runkle stands behind his company, delivers customer satisfaction and has always followed up on everything promised. I have included before and many after pictures talk about a total and satisfying transformation. Colton and TJ, the two supervisors, are dependable and extremely professional. Every individual who worked on our project was a hard worker and detail oriented. From excavation to forming, pouring the gunite, the stone coping, pouring concrete and finally the spray deck, we are thoroughly impressed. Also a special shout-out to Quintin, he is a master with the stone and one of the hardest workers I have ever met. As you can tell, we were extremely satisfied with the outcome. I can also state the service was exceptional. If we had a question or there was an issue, Dave and his team was there immediately. During that wonderful snow and ice storm, the overflow pipe cracked and water was flowing. In the freezing temperature, Dave came to the house and capped the problem. When the temperature warmed up, the repair was completed. We were extremely lucky that was the only issue from the February 13-17, 2021 freeze. Regarding start and completion times, excavation started on November 3rd and the pool was filled with water on January 28th. We believe this was a tremendous accomplishment when you consider Thanksgiving, Christmas, the snow storm of January 10th and it was winter (cold weather and rain). If you are looking to get a pool or need your pool updated, Runkle Custom Pools is the only company you should consider. read more

Jackie and David are so responsive and helpful. My new pump was installed quickly and troubleshooting how to use it was difficult on my own. I contacted them several times to schedule repairs to my pool. I spoke to Melinda (I believe to be one of the owners) she said she would check the schedule and get back to me...she didn't. No calls returned. I was also interested in having them service my pool on a regular basis. With that kind of customer service, I can only guess they aren't interested in new business. RT read more

David Runkle and his guys just completed our pool re-plaster and I have to say we are VERY impressed - not with just the work and results, but with the professionalism of David and all the workers. Hired company by phone and they have not shown up, been two weeks. Called them to check on pool cleaning as owners live out of state, they said they would be there last Friday (5-11-18) still did not show up. Picked them due to their rating on Yelp, that was very misleading read more

I called them on a Friday about a possible pool leak. The office instructed me to turn off our pump and let the water level fall as much as it may, then call back and they will schedule to come out and take a look. The water fell just below the skimmer which is where we suspected a small leak may be. Called them the next Thursday when we were sure the water had stopped dropping; meanwhile of course, our pool looks terrible without the pump running for so long. I didn't get a call back about scheduling until Monday morning and it was the owner himself who said his guy was on his way and should be there within the hour. Guy never showed. Called the owner and left a voicemail. Called the owner again the next morning and left a voicemail. Called the office and she said she would look into it and call me back. Office and owner never called back. My husband called the office and she said their guy's truck broke down. Would get back to us when he could come out. Never heard from them, of course. So much time wasted and our pool is a mess. I do not understand how a business exists treating people this way. read more

We contracted with David and Melinda Runkle the last of July 2018. We were swimming in our pool yesterday September 15 ! (would have been earlier except for rain) Now that is service. The process from beginning to end was flawless. The only thing I asked David was that I wanted to know when workers were coming or if they weren't coming - he texted me every day with a schedule of what was going to happen. We are thrilled with the results - EVERY ONE of his workers were polite, cleaned up after working, and really cared how and what they were doing . I have never had a pool as an adult and really didn't have a clue what all had to be done. I called Runkel's and met with both David and Melinda. I told them the idea I had and Melinda drew up exactly what I was envisioning. I was then able to pick out tile, plaster, etc colors which was quick, easy and fun. They started my pool soon after and it has turned out wonderful. They have great communication and were so very friendly! They were by far the easiest of my whole building process! I would highly recommend them for anyone looking to build a pool. We are super pleased with their work. read more

I have called and emailed several times to have someone come out and talk to me about putting in a pool and no one has ever replied to me. I went with a group in Austin who called me back the same day and came out two days later. I wanted to keep it local to support a local business but I guess they did not want the work that bad. read more
