We had a great experience with Runamuk's 4-person Kawasaki UTV and can highly recommend them to you. Joan makes reserving a breeze, and Jim is terrific getting you on your way. We opted for the 23-hour rental and returned our vehicle late on a warm July evening after a 125 miles tour from Seeley to Cable to Clam Lake and Hayward - by way of an amazing trail network and a few county roads. I've been in the Hayward area for more than 50 years and saw places on this tour I've not seen before. I had nearly as much fun sitting next to my wife and looking at the landscape as I did when I was behind the wheel navigating the trails. Runamuk provides everything you need for a trip. Went for an ATV guided 4-hour trail tour with the fam (7 of us ranging from ages 12-72). Jim was our tour guide. He was very personable, friendly, and accommodating. We rode right after a big storm and got nice and wet and muddy from splashing through large rain puddles along the trails. The vehicles were very sturdy and we felt perfectly safe, even through some rough terrain. Jim also had us stop at a few spots along the way to show us some beautiful scenery and tell us a bit about the history of the area. Most of us hadn't been on or driven ATVs before and all of us would do it again! As far as the value goes, for 3 generations to spend a quarter of a day doing something we all enjoyed and had never done before, we felt it was worth every penny. Communication from Joan prior to our tour was excellent. She answered our questions promptly and thoroughly. Both she and Jim were wonderful. We will likely do business with them in the future! We had the boat delivered to a local lake and minutes after launching, a lightning storm rolled in. The owner told us to beach the boat - didn't offer to bring the trailer back and get us off the water. The metal double deck pontoon with a slide did not have a functional depth chart, and the prop and prop protector got damaged. We paid $1500 for a part day on the water. Also, the audio system on the boat didn't work either. That said, we didn't get struck by lightning, so that's a silver lining. read more

BEWaRe!!!! If a zero rating existed, that would be the option. I have rented here more then several times. The business model is encourage usage but find ways to leverage the insane rental agreement to charge for 'Equipment Total' or 'Above actual damage' Always with the family and at first thought we were just not paying enough attention to the details of the ride, the driver or other. However, couldn't be farther from the truth. The owner will attempt to discount and respond, make obscene reasons but I have literally witnessed the most back door shady activity on the planet when it comes to rentals. Have you ever read the rental agreement. He has been called out by the better biz multiple times, it's that bad. He and team provide deceit, fake damage, misplaced items - all which he's attempted to charge thousands of dollars. There are several other options in the area, highly suggest exploring others or choosing not to rent. read more

We had a mixed bag with our actual rental. Machines not full of gas, loose battery connections etc. Overall, good though; a lot of fun. The problem is that they charged our group $4500 for 3 "damage deposits". Even though they cleared the machines 22 days ago, they still have our money. I've been lied to about the money being returned twice. I've also been lied to about having a manager call me back twice. Another member of our group was also promised a call back that never came. We've all had to dispute this through our banks and Runamuk doesn't seem to care enough to address it. I don't know if they need this money to float paychecks or what is going on but it's clearly more than a simple mistake. read more

So much fun! My family and I did a half day rental of two UTVs and could not be happier. The staff was great, the trails were awesome and the machine were clean/fast. Very professional and helpful. The trails can be confusing but we were given great directions and had pretty good cell service in the woods. Dusty and muddy trails that you can really have fun on! We have been renting from Runamuk for over 4 years now. We've rented snowmobiles and UTVs with no problems whatsoever. We've always had new and clean, and fully functional equipment. The delivery and return of vehicles is always easy and stress free. Our damage deposits have always been returned in a timely fashion. The customer service has never left us feeling anything other than valued. The owner has gone over maps with us, pointing out good destinations off trail for food and beverages, as well as what trails to avoid due to hazards. I really have no criticisms at all. We reserved a full-day snowmobile rental from Runamuk and had a great experience! The folks at Runamuk took time to show us their recommendations for trails and sights while riding, which was a big plus since we had never ridden in the Cable/Hayward area. The snowmobile was brand new and worth every penny of the rental fee. We ended up getting our rental a little bit after our reserved time of 10am, but the staff were very accommodating and let us keep the sled out longer to make up for it. My family rented a pontoon boat from Runamuk for a week. The customer service - especially Charlie- was nothing less than outstanding. Prompt responses for any questions and when our oil light came on- they guided us through filling it up and extra oil was already on our boat. Runamuk Rides was a the best! We were staying at Runamuk Roost for a friends weekend and thought snowmobiling would be an awesome way to round out the weekend. I'd never been on a snowmobile before so I was a little nervous but our guide Jim was awesome, he was very patient with me even after I got stuck and went off the practice course and was quick to help and educate me so it doesn't happen again. We had many trail options that were suited to different interests and ability levels which makes it nice so you can ride as much or as little as you want. He knew the trails like the back of his hand and stopped along the way to point out really cool nature items of interest which was really neat because the course we went on was so gorgeous. The coolest thing about the trail we were on was the variety we got to see, woods, lakes, fields and the town we saw it all. Before you go out you get a course on the machines which are top of the line with the best safety gear, automatic anti-fog helmets and heated handle bars? So nice. The shop is super close to town so it's not a trek and it has a nice practice course to get acquainted with the machines and the guide will give you a bunch of tips to make riding easier and safer. It was a great experience, I will have to go back after the snow melts to try ATVs. read more

My family rented two jet skis from Runamuk during a week-long trip. Towards the end of the rental, one of the jet skis began to make a strange sound and upon returning it, were promptly presented with an invoice for $1,389 for damaged parts, labor and loss-of-use (four days). The loss-of-use charges, added up to $796. When we asked to see the receipts associated with the materials & labor, we were not provided with them. I did some research on the WI regulations on rental companies and found statute 344.574(2)(b), which states that a rental company may not hold the renter or authorized driver liable for loss of use and when I asked about these charges, Runamuk again did not respond. Although everything went well during the rental period, the outcome, lack of communication and questionable business practices convinced me to never engage Runamuk in the future. read more

I visited hayward for a business weekend and tried runamuk rides me and my wife rented a snowmobile for two for 2 hr ride and it was an incredible experience the trails and route jim gave us was awesome we spent almost $200 for the two hours with the rent of equipment and the sled and it was worth every penny. The service was great as well Jim was really personable and made our experience fantastic since neither me or my wife were dressed for the occasion they rented us some equipment and gear for it for a fair amount. I would definitely goback to runamuk and rent any of their rides. read more

Runamuk is not a reputable business. In working with them on a wrecked snowmobile , they have refused to pay the residual of the sled as promised. Can't even get the snowmobile back. I suspect they have already sold the sled and pocketed the money. I would not trust the guys in any business transaction. read more

In 2016 I rented the performance class snowmobile from Runamuck and was very impressed with their services in customer service. Things have changed quite a bit in two years. In 2016 if you asked for extra belt they provided it and they also refilled your oil for the snowmobile each day. Both of those benefits are now gone. The Performance class snowmobile I rented this year should not have been in the rental fleet. It was a four-year-old worn out performance class snowmobile. I will not be renting from Runamuck again. read more

We took a 5-hour wheeler ride today and we were guided by Jim, one of the owners. Our group had a blast, the trails were fun, and the equipment was brand new and ran great. Do not rent from these crooks! I rented a side by side for my family and we got stuck two times. First time was in a mud hole and they had to come out and pull us out. I was wondering what what going on. I asked my wife if the front wheel was spinning while we were trying to get out of the pit she said no. When there employee "al" came he said well the last renter blew out the drivetrain and its now a 2x4 machine. What is that about it rained the past two days mud everywhere on the trails and they charge me $400 plus for a day for a 2x4 when we rented a 4x4 Polaris crew. In the morning staff showed me how to flip the switch to engage 4x4 sure the light worked but not the drivetrain. Needless to say I was pissed we waited two hours for "al" waisted our day only to get stuck one more time on the way back which we got out ourselves. Come back to the runamuk and the not only do they not want to refund us they tell us we will be charged $500 for pulling us out the first time. I am livid at this point, I call my bank and attorney - bank agrees to reverse charges from this shady company meaning we won't have to pay them. My 5 year old also got a tick bite on our second stuck...these guys are terrible. Filing a lawsuit at this point. Rude - careless- compromising the safety of my family and on top of that renting me a faulty product that THEY KNEW WAS FAULTY . Do not work with these con artists. read more

We planned for a bachelor party weekend to do something new and different and rent ATV's for 4 hours to ride the great trails of Hayward, WI area. Recent storms in the areas left decent size puddle areas and wash out spots on the trails. Check in process went smoothly and oversaw inspection as you will see in photo, Charlie taking pictures around the vehicle. Being the first time we never thought to look under the vehicle nor did Charlie look under the vehicle, but maybe in previous inspections after return of vehicle they note skid plat is in good condition. We had a great time and would love to return, but during our rental we had one unit that must of hit a rock with the skid plate hard enough to crack the plastic skid plate, there apparently is a metal option but they have plastic. On trail 8 there were plenty of spots where wash outs reveal larger rocks that you don't expect when coming over the hill even at 20mph that when attempted to avoid you still heard small bangs on the underside. My point is this issue could have happened to anyone. On the way back after going through puddle we heard something scrapping the dirt and noticed a portion of the skid plat dragging. We immediately took the machine back and they swapped it out with another one. After our staying when one of us in our party was wondering why his deposit had not been returned they informed him of the damage issue and that was why they were still holding the deposit. Where was the proactive communication to let us know as this was over a week since the rental when we first found out about this. We were ok with paying for the part and labor, although per contract when there is loss of use there is a 3 day minimum full day rental charge. I am not an ATV expert, but felt if they really need to rent the unit the skid plate plastic could have been pulled forward and reattached and would have been rentable until they got the new part in. After almost a month later it took me calling to check status to get the final total, not sure why they don't contact you once they know the final bill. When we expressed we wanted to be returning customer, but felt in this situation the 3 day charge was unreasonable. When asked if they would meet us half way they dug there heals in and felt what they were doing was fair in the name of the contract vs. what is good for the customer relationship. So my warning to future renters is be prepared to pay over $1,100 in loss of use not matter how minor the damage may be as they do not stray away from their contract. Nor do they offer damage insurance up front and most insurance policies don't cover loss of use. So although you can have a fun experience the financial risk may not be worth it. read more

We have used Runamuk for boat, pontoon and ATV service and Pontoon storage and delivery. You work directly with the owners and it's obvious they are eager to please. Not so with some of their local competitors. The guys are responsive, dependable and their prices are fair and competitive. As for rental ATV 's, snowmobiles, boats, most equipment is new or newer and top of the line. After arranging to pick up my pontoon from storage, they tested the batteries and thoroughly power washed the rig. Little extras you don't always get in Hayward. Wow ! read more

These guys are the real deal. A completely positive experience from start to finish. I rented a fishing boat over a long weekend. I was looking for an outfit that had good equipment at a reasonable price. And I needed one that would deliver to and pick up from the lake I was staying on. Runamuk's website was extremely informative. The fact that I could see availability, pricing, and legal documents all online was huge and gave me some confidence. When I started booking, I did have some questions so I called them. I got great, friendly help. I wanted to confirm that they serviced my area, discuss what time pickup and dropoff would be, and to better understand how the gas option worked (for $60 I got a full tank and didn't have to refill...perfect for my needs). On the delivery day, they called in advance to confirm details and they arrived right on time. The boat was in great shape. Clearly a rental, but everything operated perfectly and I had zero issues. For picking up, I needed to leave town at a reasonable time. During the booking process, I expressed in the notes my desired pickup time. This doesn't guarantee it, but helps them prioritize. I suggest that if you have firm schedule that you call them the day before pickup to work it out. They worked with my schedule and, again, they were right on time. I highly recommend these guys. Jim at Runamuk rented a fishing boat out to me 2 days in advance. He already had it pulled out and ready to go when we got there. They even offered to let us borrow the correct size hitch when we didn't have one. The customer service was excellent and the pricing was incredibly fair. This was our second rental from Runamuk. We decided to try a UTV this year instead of an ATV. Check-in was smooth and quick and after a brief tutorial, we were on our way. We did run into a problem with the machine at our first stop in Iron River and we could not get it into gear. (Thank goodness we were at a gas station and not in the middle of a trail somewhere!). We called the Cable location where we rented from. Ironically (or luckily), they just opened a shop in Iron River which was about a 1/2 mile away. Mechanics from that shop were over by us in minutes. They switched out the machine for us and took the broken one. It was such a smooth transition and they were so nice about it. On we went for the rest of our awesome day and had no issues! Did a group UTV/ATV rental with Runamuk, start of the rental did not go well as one of the machines broke within 3 miles of leaving the facility. Waited over an hour for one of their people to come to us, and eventually ended up towing the machine back. This made us lose 2 hours of our rental. When we got the machine back the mechanic looked and stated there was no oil in the machine. They downgraded that individual from a UTV to an ATV and never credited us the difference for the downgrade. As the trip continued another UTV ended up with a cracked rim, this time they met us in a timely manner and replaced the machine (but replaced with an ATV not a UTV). At the end of our journey 2 of the ATV's got water inside the engine and ended up being towed back to Runamuk. We knew we'd receive an invoice for these machines. However, Runamuk called on 4th of July stating we blew the engine on the first machine we drove - rolled another side by side (which we had pictures of the damage prior to leaving the facility), and that we had 3 ATV's that had water inside the engine (although we only towed back 2). I asked to speak to the owner and get their name and information - they would not provide me this and told me we'd settle it in court. Another group in our party called to understand the damage on the side by side and the lady from Runamuk hung up on them. After dealing with them for over a week, they have absolutely no organization. They do not know who took out what vehicle. They are expecting us to provide the information to them on which vehicle belongs to whom. After further research on their side, and us providing more information than needed and several phone calls trying to get answers, they admitted the rolled side by side was not us (the video before our ride showed the damage was there prior, which we also had pictures of and had to prove to them) and the blown engine on the first UTV is now just a belt that needed to be replaced and the unit was low on oil but still had oil in the machine. The cracked rim is being submitted under warranty but is still outstanding. However they still state 3 of the ATV's have water inside the engine and now are considered totaled. They will not credit anyone's security deposit back due to the 3 ATV's - so people who had no issues with their machine/rental are now being punished. Horrible customer service and lack of timely response when issues arise. Do not suggest renting anything from Runamuk! read more
