I enjoyed my first visit very much. I was immediately greeted by my server as I walked into the restaurant. In fact, she said hello to everyone as they entered the restaurant. My server instructed me that I could select a seat of my choosing and she followed me with a menu and articulately described the specials for the day. I asked my waitress if the owner or manager was there that day as I wanted to evaluate it as an option for an upcoming event for our company. Owner Dennis Smoke came over to the booth where I was seated and we had an easy discussion about what our event needs are and how his restaurant can provide for those needs. I decided to order the chicken picata because it was a probable consideration for our menu selection. Upon looking at the Rumors menu, I noticed that the dinner menu (and thus the chicken picata) was available after 5pm. In italics underneath this line was something to the effect that you could ask if dinner items were available earlier than the stated time of 5pm. I asked my server (Summer) and was told that all of the items for that dish were available and that they'd be happy to make it for me. This was at 1pm on a Friday afternoon...well before the stated 5pm time. Nice! Being that I am researching this restaurant for an event where I will report my findings to my colleagues next week, I paid attention to the plating, the quality and look of the china (Fiestaware-like) plates, the cleanliness and charm of the venue, etc. I even took photos of my salad and entree' in order to share my impressions of the food with members of my team. I uploaded several photos. On my way out, I noticed the beautiful cherry bar with butterfly joints and the artistry of the woodworker's effort. Dennis came over once again and we had our third conversation about the history of the wood planks that were used and the reuse of historic paneling on the front bar. I also found out that he is in a scotch whiskey club and that Rumors carries 66 types of whiskey. I don't drink but that seems pretty impressive to me. The building is a beautiful victorian era building, comfortably renovated with clean restrooms and a nice patio area adorned with flowering plants and black wrought-iron fencing. It will be a very pleasing place to hold our function. I was encouraged to consider Rumors as a venue based on the many positive recommendations of people I know from the Devils Lake area. In doing online research prior to my visit, I came across the Yelp reviews. With respect to the negative review posted on this Yelp page, my experience was nothing but positive and my take-away from his review is that he had an axe to grind. Until today I had never been to Rumors or known the owner or anyone affiliated with the restaurant but I felt very welcome and I was treated as if they'd known me for years. Hey, just thought I'd let you know that Rumors is a wonderful restaurant in Hudson - been there often and love the atmosphere, service, food and craft beers...oh, and the owner. I'd rate it a 4 to 5. What I want to rate 1-star is the pompous 1-star reviewer, Lucas S. (by the way Luke - that is how it is spelled, not pampas). For someone that has apparently never eaten there, you must think you're pretty hot stuff to walk into a local restaurant and have them change their menu for you. Oh, and did I mention I think they have other things on the menu besides their fish tacos? If you don't want to have something fried, why not try another selection? Maybe one of their fresh salads, a reuban sandwich or the Tilapia - your choice. No, instead you declare their "food is made to kill you." Before I forget, did I mention I think you are pompous? You may want to check on that before you go calling other people fools. By the way, you may also want to use different phrasing than Brandon Y next time - it loses something when you both say the exact same stupid stuff. this restaurant food is made to kill you and the owner is setup to just piss you off. Order the fish tacos they are a healthy serving of FAT release and grease. Ask them to not fry your shell and they will tell you that is not possible. It is ridiculous that we ask to "remove" a step in the process to make a deep fried shell and it cannot be done. I cannot stand the owner because he is pampas and tells the customer that he is the mayor of Hudson. It's awful. Rude. Repulsive. It is sad that we now have a team of 20 in the city and NONE of us will ever eat there again. Too bad he doesn't want the money. Fool. Ohh did I mention he is the mayor? Excellent menu choices. An unexpected great find for a small town. Building is beautiful with original wood floors and store front from the 1800's. Food superb. I loved the Bleu Burger served on a pretzel bun. My dinner partner tried the Classic Reuben which came with more than ample serving of meat. Sandwiches served with freshly fried potato chips and a pickle. I substituted sweet potato fries with my sandwich and loved them. Make a point to stop at this place if in the Hudson area. Evening meals include Chicken Piccata, Steak or Tilapia. The bar serves a great variety of wine, beer and mixed drinks. If you are a Scotch drinker, you will want to belly up to the bar and throw one back. read more

I have been here at least 5 times giving it chance after chance and trying new things. The food is mediocre at best. The fish taco shells are fried and disgusting so when I asked to not have the shells fried they refused and said they would not do that because other people like it that way. Had there chicken salad which was also mediocre I can make better ones at home. The fries for there burgers are small very small and annoying. I will never be going here again. read more

Not sure what restaurant the other reviewer visited, but it couldn't have been Rumors. I've eaten there at least a dozen times. Food is very good; fresh meat from a local processor, fresh baked pretzel buns. Food prices are reasonable, though beer prices are a bit high. The portions are huge, and they always have a couple of interesting local beers on tap. One of the only decent restaurants in the entire area. read more

This is a hidden treasure of a place! I have absolutely nothing negative to say about it. The place itself is so cool! It's warm and comfortable. Incredibly clean. But has these cool quirks that can keep catching your eye. The service is excellent! And THE FOOD is SO GOOD!!! Everything!!! From all the crafts beers, appetizers, entrees and desserts. Yum yum!!! Rumors is a great place to eat in a small town. Heck, it's a great place to eat in a big town. The service is exceptional and the fish tacos are my favorite! At $2.50 each, they are a bargain. Really enjoyed this place! Beautiful building with very friendly and attentive staff. The food was terrific! Very fresh, with good ingredients and also a lot of variety and specials. Got there too late to try the special, but my bleu burger was cooked perfectly and the slaw is great with that zing. The BBQ bacon burger is awesome too. Probably had 16 or unique beers an tap. Really nice place & service was top notch! Will definitely be back! read more
