Let's start with the best thing this box has going for it and work down…read more PROGRAMING: KOA does an outstanding job here. They program in cycles, each cycle focusing on either strength, gymnastics, olympic lifts, or conditioning... Hell there are even a powerlifting and CF competitors programs for members who compete in such events. You can always expect a metcon as part of your wod though, but depending on the cycle KOA is in, the work before the metcon will vary. This has allowed KOA to produce strong, conditioned athletes. COACHING: KOA's coaches know their stuff! You only need to watch a member move to see how obvious this is. Great coaching produces great movers. Additionally, each coach takes the time to prepare your body for the wod ahead with specific mobility drills and or warm-ups. FACILITY: by far one of the better equipped boxes in the area. They have everything from lifting platforms, to lifting blocks, axle bars, oly bars, rowers, assault airbikes, ghd's, sleds, rigs, rings, ropes, dumbbells, kbs, slam balls, medballs, and much much more. KOA also occupies a storefront and it's storage warehouse, so there is plenty of square footage. CLASSES: You want classes, KOA has got classes! As I mentioned earlier KOA occupies a storefront and its warehouse which are connected but separated enough that KOA is able to run 2 classes at the same time. What this means is that from 5:15pm to 8:15pm (there are early morning and mid day classes as well) KOA starts a class every 45 minutes, one in the front and another in the back. KOA also offers a gymnastics and competitors programs free of charge to members. There's also an oly club that participates in competitions (also open to members but requires a lifting singlet to join). COMMUNITY: KOA has a lot of members, because of this it is impossible to have that small box feel where everyone knows one another. However, KOA is not without a strong sense of community. Members throw parties and invite everyone, KOA has plenty of in-box events, and they are very active in supporting the CF community by participating and or hosting friendly box vs box throwdowns and charity events. In the end I recommend you drop in at several of the few surrounding boxes so you can make an informed decision about which box is best for you. But I do feel that KOA offers the best package in the area. As for addressing the comments below, I've been a member of KOA for over 6 months now and I can tell you with 100% confidence that the negative reviews this place has received on yelp don't hold up. I've never been pushed any products, although a few of the athletes do use the same brand, but they do so because they feel it works for them and I've never seen them push it to other members. Like Miguel said, nothing but positive life changing experiences here. And yes, Miguel did leave, but he did so to become a coach at ECC.

There are no egos, and everyone (coaches and fellow athletes included) are as happy for you as they are for themselves. There is a special bond that forms from doing workouts together, that I wouldn't of ever thought was possible. Whether you're a former athlete trying to get back into it, an elite athlete trying to reach the next level, a casual gym goer, or an athletic novice like I was, this is the place for you. Koa will push you to be the best you can, and this is not only physically. They teach you to be mentally tough and to keep striving to improve. There is a mental toughness, determination, and aggression that you need to be able to lift a bar over your head. I found myself unknowingly taking the same confidence into other every day things in my life. You learn that things you never thought were possible, are very possible if you put a plan together and execute it. When I started, I could barely lift the bar over my head, couldn't do a pullup, and was out of breath doing burpees within seconds. However, the community never let me feel down, and kept encouraging me. It would of been very easy to stop, but KOA has an atmosphere where you want to keep getting better, even when you are struggling... I really felt awful physically, but emotionally the support I got far outweighed it.. This pushed me, and others to keep going. I stayed with it, and It's amazing how 3 years later to see how far I've come. I've gone from not even knowing how to squat to squatting nearly 400lbs. I couldn't do a pullup, but now can grab the rings and pull off some muscle ups... Somehow I can even throw up over 150% of my bodyweight over my head... The program just works! If there is a negative, it's that this place has somehow created a magic atmosphere and unbelievable positive energy that makes you think you can do anything if you put a plan together and execute it.. The  confidence I gained from KOA made me believe that I could run the NYC Marathon, and a 70.3 Ironman Race... And somehow I did them both... If not for everything KOA has taught me, then I don't think any of these would of even been thoughts in my wildest dreams... The constant motivation to get better never ends no matter where you are... Right now,  I'm  signed up for a 140.6 Mile Ironman Race in July, and because of KOA I'm crazy enough to know I can do it... Join, and never look back!

They are apart of the nationwide program. which means anyone from any y is basically allowed. last 2 visits have been horrible. our first time which was a month ago. they wasted our time. made sign the same waiver 4 times. while a man was eyeing us up and down the entire time. which as 2 diverse kids in a not so diverse town. wasn't quite comfortable. then the man soon tells us only adults in the gym. Which was a complete lie because there were many kids of different ages. and they finally allowed us in after everyone left. but then yesterday. So so rude. Same group but i got there early, so they give ME no problem, except the eyeing. So after an hour i go into town to get some food. i meet my friends, and we were gone no more then 30-40 minutes. They "let" me through but give my friend a hard time. we needed the waiver SIGNED again. his parents are busy, and the last time they said we can use a guardians email as long as they over 21. but the lady gets really defensive. And starts saying no you can't. But the same man was there both times and witnessed it both. getting into a particular stance as if we were going to try to attack someone. while i'm trying to explain to peggy, she interrupts and calls over a very disrespectful MADELINE. and says "these kids don't understand anything and won't listen" Ma'am we listened but we tryna explain you something. so madeline comes and says "we don't need to answer anything, they can leave". i try to keep my cool but honestly it bothered a lot. she gets all defensive and starts being rude. while we are simply just trying to play basketball. so she continues with her rudeness. and threatens us with a ban. While the man is looking all dumb, like i wasn't here an hour ago and says "you can go into the open gym, because your from a different YMCA it's a recent law." sir i was there literally an hour ago and i know he saw me before because he called us out and even said he knew where we from. so we walk out and i come back in and ask for their names. Peggy, and then MADELINE, gave me a hard time. but her name badge is clear. so now i will be calling them and filing complaints due to the disrespect and stupidity. i'm honestly never coming to such a horrible staffed gym.
