We chose to stay at the Rum Runner Inn when we visited Lunenburg this summer. (We did also eat in the restaurant - which we totally recommend!) Perfect location! Overlooks the harbour. Now to be fair we booked the "cozy" king room. That means it was a smaller room/ small bathroom too. Okay for 1 night -- might find it difficult for more than that --- not much room to hang clothes or a place to put your suitcases. FYI However, the room and particularly the bed and linens were sooo comfy. For us it was just fine, and wonderfully quiet at night. :) Staff were very friendly too. Now as for the restaurant -- do recommend the seafood chowder with homemade biscuits. Yummy! Parking is on the street or at a nearby lot but parking overnight is free and even during the day street parking is only $1 for 4 hours :).

    Appetizing presentation and yummy too!

Vibe Restaurant Review - September 4, 2015: Rum Runner Restaurant 4/5 Stars Now under new management and with a new menu featuring sushi prepared by a Japanese Sushi Chef and Indian Cuisine by Tim, a very personable Owner/Chef, James and I were eager to get our sushi and Indian food cravings satiated in Lunenburg. We will let you in on a secret - we have been known to drive to Halifax to eat Indian, Japanese and Thai since old foodie habits are hard to break. In order to review these two very different cuisines, we elected to have sushi as our appetizer and Indian dishes for our mains, which we have to say is a first and a bit unusual. Sushi was well prepared and presented, fresh and tasty. Nigiri was a bit pricey given the thickness of the fish, but the Alaska Roll was definitely good value. We have tried 6 of 20 of the most highly rated Japanese restaurants in Halifax and rate the sushi at the Rum Runner on par with the best we have tried so far, so we are thrilled that we can eat good sushi close to home. We will definitely want to try more of their roll selections, in addition to their Miso Soup and Soba Noodle dish. Our Indian entrees were preceded with papparadum, a crispy lentil cracker with chutney on the side, which was a nice touch. Indian plates, Masala Fish and Masala Chicken, were beautifully prepared and presented. Proteins and vegetables were cooked to perfection. Masala sauce was creamy and nicely spiced based on our personal heat preferences: medium for me and hot for James. Rice and naan were good, but not prepared as we are accustomed to. Prices of plates were good value. Since it is our first dining experience at this newly launched restaurant, we look forward to going back to try other dishes, including local fare, including fish and seafood. We enjoyed the service that was friendly and efficient, as well as sitting on the patio overlooking the Lunenburg Harbour on this beautiful evening. Lunenburg Vibe

What a great place to stay and brunch!…read more It is a lovely old house on the main street of Lunenburg. It has a fantastic balance of old and new: - lovely antique furniture, floor coverings, exquisite old light fixtures, etc. - exercise room, high speed internet, business centre, flat screen TV + DVD player in the room. We were blown away by the small touches as the modern stemware in the rooms, updated bathrooms and complementary chocolates on the bed. The bed was a dream to sleep on, once the pillows were cleared and stacked in the corner:-) Nice light cozy comforter on the bed. Now for breakfast - simply fantastic! Cold buffet with solomon gundy, smoked salmon, cheeses, etc.. A bread stack that included fresh from the oven croissants. We went with the a la carte eggs benedict - and don't let them give you the back bacon - go for the smoked salmon option - yummmmmm!!! We will definitely be going back. The question is only whether it will be another mid-winter, off season fantastically priced get-away or a full priced mid-summer Lunenburg folk festival week? Not to be missed!

The receptionist was hospitable and friendly. He provided us with a list of businesses in the area that would be good for a bite to eat or drinks. When he showed us to our room in the Cranberry Suites he informed us that he upgraded our room prior to our arrival. Excellent service, immaculately clean rooms. I would recommend The Mariner King without hesitation.

Lane's Privateer Inn is a hotel, but it also has an attached restaurant and my husband and I had…read moredinner there recently and it was great. I had the Lobster Roll ($25) which came with fries and a salad (I requested the dressing on the side). My husband had the Mersey Scallops ($24) and these came with roasted potatoes and vegetables. My lobster roll was delicious. It was real lobster mixed with tiny pieces of celery and mayo. It also had some mixed greens in it. In Ottawa, where I'm from, "Lobster Rolls" sometimes have cheap fillers like fake crab mixed in - which is sacrilege, I know, but it happens, so I was thrilled that that did not happen here. Mind you, I fully expect any self-respecting restaurant in the Maritimes to make good Lobster Rolls. Lane's Privateer Inn did not disappoint. I was also glad to see that the side salad was a real spring mix/mesclun mix salad and not iceberg or romaine lettuce. However, the salad was a little on the small side. It had 1 grape tomato cut in half and some grated carrots. It was only a few mouthfuls. The dressing on the side was a light citrus vinaigrette that I enjoyed. The fries were ok. They were a bit on the mealy side, but the outside was crispy at least. My husband enjoyed his meal. He got 6 large scallops, some new potatoes, carrots and broccoli. He gave me a scallop and it was very tasty. We got some complimentary biscuits to start our meal. They were slightly sweet. I thought they were just ok, but my husband really liked them. I gave him three-quarters of mine. I like that they give you a glass bottle of water and leave it at your table. I noticed that each table had a different shaped bottle which I thought was cool. My husband also got a flight of 4 beers for $8. Each beer was 4oz each. He got to chose the beers individually from a list of about 12 beers. All the beers were brewed in Nova Scotia. Service was very friendly and courteous. The ambiance is cool and feels like an old fashioned inn. There's free parking in their private parking lot.

It's a lovely old inn with 27 rooms, each furnished with antiques and each one different to the next. Ours had a claw foot tub that was perfect for pampering. Especially since there were all sorts of wonderful smelling soaps and lotions to go along. But the Inn had more surprises in store for us. The dining rooms - yes, more than one were again furnished from an older, simpler time and the food was delicious. A lobster club sandwich for me and some crispy coated scallops for him...okay, we shared everything and it was all excellent. Next surprise, was the bookstore. We actually ate our lunch in it. Wonderful selections of Canadiana - literature, history and for me...local cookbooks. Feasting for tummy and mind. Perfect! And last, but not least for the foodie in me...the gourmet gift shop with everything from serving pieces to ingredients. Each area - inn, restaurant, bookstore and gourmet gift shop is worth a trip back on its own.
