Rumbar is VERY cool. Through its latin music, dark wood and comfortable furniture, this bar combines the impeccable service and the laid back energy of the Ritz with a world-class rum menu. Anthony, one of the bartenders, has an impressive knowledge of drink selections and is happy to pass it along. Prices are steep, but the experience is worth the money.

    Super great atmosphere!

WOWOWOWOW!!! This HAS to be one of the coolest bars I've been to this year so far... and at the risk of sounding like a "lush," I've been to hundreds of bars and this one is BAD@$$! Walking into Rum Bar's dimly lit room you instantly get this romantic, intimate vibe. There's mood lighting, the bar is elegant and lit up really cool, book cases full of rum line the walls and then there's these giant comfy leather chairs that my wife and I immediately gravitated towards and just sank into ha. As we sat there sinking into these cushiony leather chairs, a smiling waitress came over, greeted us with some water, plantain chips and bar menu. 5 gold stars for anyone who comes bearing food, menus and a smile haha. Before we looked at the menu and because we such avid cocktail enthusiasts, we put our barman to "The TEST." The Test is something we came up with. Whenever we visit a new cocktail bar, we ask our bartender to make one of the classics... a Negroni, a French 75, an Aviation, or an Old Fashioned... you get it. I know, I know... This is SUPER pretentious, BUT, if he/she passes our little stupid test then we feel wayyyy comfortable spending dollar after dollar buying drinks from them and being a return customer haha. That being said, we ordered a French 75 cocktail and Anthony (our bartender that night) knocked it OUT OF THE MF PARK!!! Commence the drinking! I next ordered a Hemmingway Daiquiri, followed by a Caribbean Storm, and then a rum Old Fashioned, followed by a rum tasting flight that Anthony personally curated to my liking. You see what I mean? Pass our "test," we buy more haha. Anthony, the bartender that evening, was such a great dude! Kept us laughing, kept us entertained with great convo and made our cocktails in a timely manner! Overall, this bar was one of my favorite experiences at the Ritz-Carlton and we will def be returning sometime soon :)

There is no flash here, just a classic, dark, watering-hole, with plush chairs and stiff drinks. Come here as the clock nears closing time, when you don't want or need distractions, just a smooth pour and a conversation. One of my favorite late-but-not-too-late-night bars. One comes for two or three drinks, never to get sloppy. The first drink should be had outside, sitting on the sand, listening to the waves. Second and third rounds, sipped slowly sitting in the cozy, albeit masculine, dark room. This being a classic bar, I wouldn't deviate too much from the traditional cocktails on the menu. Save the fizzy, elaborate, convoluted, and now almost cliche -tinis, -itos, and -itas for other establishments. The house specialty here is rum but they'll serve you plenty more. They do have a drink named after Hemingway, which I always find fitting for this throwback.

I give this place a 5 star review for 3 reasons: 1. More types of Rum than I know what to do with (wait I know exactly what I should do ) 2. Great service! My bartender listened to me when I said my mojito was a tad on the sweet side so he added much more rum and seltzer when my drink was already half empty! 3. Great ambience, they are going for an old Havana feel with dark wood and big leather couches/chairs. Made me want a cigar, even though I don't like them! The ambience doesn't feel cheesy either (like most places in miami) And oh yah, their salted nut mix at the bar is so good, making you thirsty for some more awesome rum.

Rumbar has a pop up bar for Halloween - The House of Spells. We had a really fun time. We went during the week day, and the staff was not in costume which was a bit disappointing. Also, the drinks weren't served with dry ice as advertised, which was also a bit disappointing. That said, they had live entertainment on a Thursday night playing very good music. The bar snacks were also very large in portion size and very delicious. For the price, I was pleasantly surprised to see the size of the snacks (see pics I am attaching). We ordered the Kraken Sea Creature Dip (warm crab and artichoke dip with pita) and the Tombstone Flatbread (mushroom, truffle and arugula flatbread). The cocktails were also very good. My husband had the Witch's Brew (no special presentation) and I had the Vampire Kiss (which is served in a blood bag). Overall, the decor was very nice for pics, the music was very entertaining, the food was delicious and the portions were fabulous. Also, if you want a larger meal, you can also order from the restaurant menu which they will serve in the bar setting. I recommend trying it out if you want to try something different and if you are in the Halloween spirit.

Ropa Vieja Empanadas & Tostones Rellenos
    Maia K.

The Spread: Seeking a quick dinner after a long day of travel, I popped into the lobby bar and ordered two appetizers. HUGE portions for both the (tuna tartar) Tostones Rellenos and the Ropa Vieja Empanadas. The tuna on the tostones lacked flavor, but I enjoyed the garlic aioli, which tasted like it had a bit of wasabi in it, and the plantain chips, which were extra chewy and crispy. The empanadas were flavorful and moist. The Scene: The place describes itself as a Havana-style bar. It's a dimly-lit, tropical, comfortable setting with rich, dark wood accents. The Service: Pretty awful. I overheard the server say it was his second day at work, but man, that excuse can only get you so far! It took forever to get the server's attention while seated at the bar to place a to go order. (I watched a colleague also get ignored for a solid 10-15 minutes after she received the menu. And when she finally flagged him down, and said she was ready, his reply was "Oh, you're really ready this time?") The food came out beautifully plated...but I'd asked for it to go. And when I opened up the containers in my room, it was clear that the to go presentation was NOT a priority. Someone had thrown the contents haphazardly into the to go boxes. How disappointing.

    Mojito

Arrived at the Ritz early for a Wednesday evening Yelp Event at Lightkeepers, so decided to enjoy a drink at Rum Bar. During happy hour they offer a discounted Mojito, which seemed like a solid choice for a bar called Rum Bar. Quality Although it may be blasphemous to say in Miami, I am just not a big fan of rum. However, since rum was in the name of the bar, I felt obligated to select a rum based drink. I looked over the cocktail list and after learning about a discounted Mojito I decided to go with that. It was a very delicious and refreshing drink. A perfect mixture of lime and mint, with a nice tart flavor. I am always concerned about this cocktail being too sweet and leaving my teeth sore, but I am happy to report that it was not the case. Quantity The Mojito was served in a tall glass with a generous amount of alcohol. It was not overwhelmed by the taste of rum, but it was definitely present in each sip. Value Although this may not be a surprise, the cocktail bar at the Ritz is definitely not cheap. I was glad to take advantage of the discounted Mojito at $10 during happy hour because the other drinks were very pricey. The signature cocktails were all $18 and even the cheaper beers were $7. A guest on vacation may not be concerned by the prices, but as a local I would have had trouble justifying the cost. Ambiance Now what makes Rum Bar worth a visit is the wonderful atmosphere that the hotel has created. Located inside the Ritz Carlton on Key Biscayne, Rum Bar manages to transport you from the hotel lobby to a cozy lounge in the styling of Havana or maybe more appropriately Key West. Dimly lit and with a cool temperature it provides an oasis away from the heat. It is decorated much like a cabana that you would expect opened to the beach, completed with fans overhead, but in actuality it is an indoor bar with plenty of air conditioning. At the center of the space is the main bar, which beautifully displays the large selection of liquor. They also have two televisions that are incorporated in a way to keep the upscale feel, while still affording guests a chance to enjoy the game. Surrounding the bar are several smaller nooks complete with comfortable chairs and tables. It provides a level of intimacy that may not be expected. Almost everywhere you look you will find windows into glass shelves full of even more bottles of rum. The music was a perfectly suited mix of Latin jazz and dance played lightly as to not interrupt conversation. Crowd Located inside of a resort, everyone I was surrounded with were out of town guests. The sunburnt faces added to that feel. It appeared like the bar was a perfect meeting place for groups to organize before heading to a more formal dinner. However, a small family also chose to enjoy some bites here as well. It felt like a good spot for a drink either before or after dinner. Service As could be expected at a fancy resort, the bartender was excellent. Both friendly and efficient, he kindly chatted up all the patrons sitting around the bar area. Parking To get close to the Ritz the only choice is valet parking which will run you $25. Luckily the event I headed to afterwards provided complimentary valet because the other cheap option is much less convenient. Street parking exists outside the gated area near the park, but expect a hot and humid stroll that is a bit far. Extra Now Rum Bar may not a destination in itself, but I think it is a necessary spot to check out if you are staying at the Ritz or are going to one of the other restaurants located on the property. Either way you know you will be spending some money, which will make the drink prices a bit easy to swallow. But it really is the atmosphere that is incredible and not at all what I expected.

The drinks are fantastic. The Rum selection is endless. I felt like I was at home with friends as the bar is super friendly and cozy! They have assorted cigars for the consumer which is a nice touch. The lighting is soft and elegant, Its was my favorite things about the Ritz-Carlton in Key Biscayne, I love the low mood lighting and nice atmosphere. Nice to unwind and have a drink after a long flight!!!

Clients often picking it up themselves to be able to sit. When I finally got a table, I had to wait 30mins for it to be cleaned. I waited another 20 mins to be helped after waiving down the overworked waitress (who was really nice). Ordered an overpriced charcuterie board from their VERY limited menu and two Pinot noirs. I asked for the manager to discuss the trash and lack of service --- manager never came. After 30 more mins we got our charcuterie board, no waters, no utensils, no wine. Finished the food, wine got there 10 mins later, it was oxidized and undrinkable. I asked to talk to the manager again. Waited. Nothing. I approached the security guard to ask for the manager, he was very nice and apologetic, I believe Fabian was his name. He said the manager was busy and could not talk. Very disappointing experience. I will never return. The hope is that ownership sees this and changes management. Poor management turned into poor staffing, which turned into disappointed customers. We were not the only ones. If you decide to visit, I say...... BYOB and enjoy the views. They are so incredibly understaffed, it's not worth the frustration to try and get service. Food quality was poor.

I talked the friendly valet into letting me park between a handicap space and a dumpster. The service was awful. It was 1:30 pm and there were about 15 customers with capacity for 100+. I was given a menu and a glass of water timely and the lady behind the bar seemed friendly. There were plenty of staff around waiting tables and backing the bar. I ordered a blackened fish sandwich and a draft beer. The beer came right away in a plastic mug. The pour was less than 12 oz. (small mug) and the brew was barely chilled. Almost room temperature. After 20 minutes and no fish sandwich, the bar lady came by and asked me: "Did you get your fish sandwich?" I said no. She then went in the main building (presumably where the kitchen is located) coming out a few minutes later while holding up 2 fingers, mouthing "2 minutes." The sandwich was $22 without fries (which were and extra $9 as a side). I didn't order those. The half-pint warm beer was $8. About 7 minutes later, another server came from the main building and delivered a scrawny, soggy bun containing a thick, small, undercooked, hunk of blackened fish flesh only 80% skin free. I had to finish the filleting myself. The toppings were parsley and onion. It was the ugliest and most tasteless blackened fish sandwich I have ever been served. I should've taken a photo. Anyway, by this point, I was in a hurry to get out of there as the place was a total fail. I picked at the fish with my fork and knife and ate the part that was actually meat and cooked, leaving the rest (skin included) and the soggy bun on the plate. With an 18% gratuity included, a simple grilled fish sandwich with no sides and a warm beer came out to almost $40. On the positive side, the view of the water and the Miami - Brickell skyline was good. However, I won't be coming back to this joint again. If I could give it Zero stars, I would.

Our waitress hadn't the faintest clue to what she was doing. She asked how well done we wanted our carpaccio. She so clearly didn't know what she was doing, I had her recite our orders back to me. How could she mess that up? Good question. How about serving all of the food at one time, appetizers and main course? We had carpaccio, supposedly Argentine beef; a pancho; a filet mignon; and Milanezza Martin. Starting with the semi edible, the fillet was not good, the presentation was awful, stock dry on its own on a black plate, with mashed potatoes in a separate ramekin on the side, and the sad chimichurri sauce also in a separate ramekin, but you could swallow it. Everything else was a disgrace. The milanezza was junk they got out of the fridge and microwave before they planted it on the table. My daughter found it literally non-edible, and she is the kindest of diners. She said it tasted like the fridge... A kind way of putting it The pancho was a profoundly bland hot dog in a stale bun. But the "carpaccio" took pride of place. Simultaneously part-frozen and decaying beef, of which my daughter took a bite, and then was stuck finding a polite way to spit it into a napkin. North of inedible. All of this terrible food was put onto our table at one time, about three minutes after we ordered it, because obviously it had just been defrosted in the microwave. And to add insult to injury, the waitress came by, with a toothy, TGIF smile, and said how are we doing? Bloody awful is the only answer. In a move that clearly reflects where the restaurant is at, I noticed they put 19% automatically on the bill for "service". Then they had the cojones to ask for more of a tip when you sign electronically on the tableside device. I looked at the waitress incredulously with raised eyebrows, and that was that. Never again.
