This place is very overpriced. They don't give estimates in writing. They picked up two small area rugs. Then they sent an invoice for $2700. Obviously, two small area rugs are not worth anywhere near that. When we complained they said that if we want the rugs back it's $2,700. We thought it would be $720 not $2700! On their site they advertise normal price $535 and promotional $425 for a 12 ft rug. That's false advertising I guess! We told them to just keep the rugs and they proceeded to send nasty threatening emails to my wife. We should have checked them out before using them. Do you ever just have one of those days? Well, recently, I adopted a tiny teacup chihuahua named Huarache. Beautiful traditional Mexican name--problem is, I can barely pronounce it. So naturally, I changed it to Flautas. (Because priorities, right?) ANYWAYS, LOL, this sweet girl is not housebroken, and long story short, she turned my gorgeous white wool Moroccan rug into what can only be described as a yellow polka-dotted crime scene. Aside from the visual carnage, it started to smell like a West Hollywood alley at 3 a.m. I did everything I could to save the rug, but apparently, lil' Flautas is dehydrated because her neon yellow stains laughed in the face of my Bissell. I was furious! To make matters worse, in an unrelated but equally tragic event, my partner and I got into it, and somehow, I ended up with a bloody nose--which I promptly bled all over the rug. Just when I thought things couldn't get worse, my friend Chrissy showed up, fresh off her own adventure, tracking in mud from her Crocs. The rug was officially done. I've used Rug Ideas to clean some rugs for the past three years. On my most recent visit, I opted to deliver and pick up my rug to save a little on the cost. Not only are these the friendliest people you could meet, but they were so eager to give me a tour of their facility and show me how they actually clean the rugs. The passion they have for caring for exquisite rugs, and the pride they take in this work shines through like no other business I've ever encountered. When I brought my rug in, Dr. Kay ran down their entire process with me and even sent me home with a lovely thoughtful gift, which I have enjoyed tremendously. They showed me how they can erase years of pet accidents, red wine stains, dust, mildew, and every other kind of stain damage you can imagine. Every time I've seen the finished product I've been very impressed with how they return my rugs like new. In the three years that I've availed myself of their services, I've sent them rugs that were $5k-$8k new, and once I sent them a cheap rug that I bought on Amazon. Admittedly, I was embarrassed to send such professionals such a cheap rug, but they assured me that the value of the rug was completely irrelevant to the care they would take with it. I reiterated my concern to Dr. Kay again about bringing them a cheap, synthetic rug and he tells me they love to clean those because it means less waste in the landfills (and yes, it was far less costly to clean than my valuable rugs). Mad respect for that. Rug cleaning isn't free, no matter whom you go to. But when you buy a rug, you should want to take care of it and maximize its life. I bought an antique rug (over a hundred years old) for very cheap because it was in bad condition. I took it here to get cleaned, de-mothed, and color corrected. The salesperson there talked my ear off for almost 45 minutes, trying to upsell services for the rug. I refused a lot of the upsells, trying to explain that even if I spent $700 cleaning and restoring the rug it will never be worth much more than the $150 I paid for it. It was threadbare in a bunch of spots and had splotchy colors. I still somehow signed on for a "discounted" price of $450, and left feeling like I had been swindled. I justified it to myself, saying that at least I'll have a clean and color corrected rug for my house in the style I had wanted for so long. When I came to pick up the rug, it looked DIRTIER than I left it! This is because the stains lifted from some areas and not others. I flipped out, so they agreed to work on it again and try to get the colors more even. When I came back the work was definitely more in line with my expectations, but I do feel the need to write this review because I resent the way the salesman kept trying to take me for a ride and gaslight me. I've been buying and selling antiques on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace as a hobby for 15 years. I know what people will pay for things. The salesperson could not get it through his head that I didn't want to invest more money into the rug than I could resell it for. He kept telling me, "this rug is worth $5000." I have seen multiple of these rugs in the same style and size online, in far superior condition, for $600. The work (after I demanded it be redone) was acceptable, but the slimy and disingenuous salesmanship is enough to keep me away from this place in the future. read more
