This Jamaica park was the former estate of Rufus King, a lawyer and statesman who was one of the original signers of the United States Constitution, and a leader in the early anti-slavery movement. This historical site not only offers educational insight to our history, it also offers a ton of recreational activities such as; a soccer field for many soccer fans, a handball court,and a basketball court. In fact, several notable basketball legends got their start in Queens playgrounds, like the Rufus King Park. Mike Wilks played basketball in the area, as well as Rafer, Skip To My Lou, Alston. Just a little history! I sat in the park for about 10 minutes. I did experience kind interactions from passerbys. Parks are very interesting and fun, even in the winter. No, I'm always one of those type of people when I go somewhere. I really be looking out for things that could be improved and what I notice is there has fencing around all of the kids toys where nobody can have access to the toys so people cut the wires and bent them back and it seems that the part doesn't care to fix those problems! The kids seem to have fun at their two or three squirt/pad that they've had compared to other parks this is a little ghetto, but the rest of the park seems to be awfully nice considering the amount of money that they probably paid for the benches versus making the kids portion of the park, upgraded and better! This whole plot of land has so much more potential than it's given! Given the conditions of the park, I have to give this a place of three! There is too many children hazards that the park could fix, but they don't! And don't come at me saying that the cops don't know because I've watched them patrol. It's about 5011 times and they ain't said nothing about nobody going inside these fences to play on these toys so I'm pretty sure if they know about it. This not only a park named after a polítican, and also were he lived at. His home is now a museum and land Mark. I enjoyed going to Kings park it has a nice walking path ,nice flowers ,swing's for the kids in the play ground along with water sprinkler ,sliding boards etc. The park also has men and women rest room's ,they might not be the best ,but they are there for the public use. The park also has a huge socer field , basket ball court, and a hand ball court. Chairs in the grass with tables in the summer time. It also has about 6 entrance to come in and leave out. Only down side to the park is sometimes you May see some homeless folks but after the pandemic that's some what common in some of the nyc parks. Don't forget the park is located on jamaica Avenue so there are many store's and restaurant right up the street from the park. You will be in downtown jamaica one of queens biggest shopping area ,only a block or 2 away from rufus king park. read more

This is one of the worst parks in Jamaica, Queens. It feels unsafe every time I pass by. There are always drunk or high people around that are dangerous, and sometimes even fights. I've heard about shootings too, so I never stay long. Families deserve a safer, cleaner park than this. read more

Alright, this park has been so beautiful during certain times...but it looks awful currently. When I made it back on Thursday there was so much trash, and weeds all over. I have tried to stay positive but this and seeing people being nasty there is no way I can give this park more than 2 stars. Today while walking my dogs there was a guy peeing on a tree....and no lie there was a guy on a bench laying down with his mask on,pants open with his private part out and peeing. Why do people do stuff like this? Being drunk or high in the park around children and other humans and doing stuff that's not appropriate is just not ok. I truly wish instead of the park officers that come out to bother people about their dogs, they would worry about people that are actually doing inappropriate activities. Some of the trash that is on the ground is actually not just from people throwing/leaving it there the trash cans are completely full so it's all falling over. I have seen one guy that has park attire cleaning but I haven't seen anyone from his team. If you also come to this park you would really question if we are in a pandemic. There are several crowds gathering and the terf field in the middle is completely full with soccer players all over. Several people aren't wearing a mask or anything just put hanging out. So be careful if you have to go. read more

Its a well maintained park even with all the snow that NY recently received. However, do expect homeless people lying around on some of the benches. I walk in a group through this park on the circular cement paved path. I recommend walking in a group as I've heard of unwanted incidents such as mugging and fights. Not the best park to hang out in, but if you're in the area and need a place to walk, stretch, and catch some fresh air, this is the place to be. Walking through the park is approximately a 1 mile walk. Be careful of where you step, because dog owners that walk their dog here don't always pick up after their dogs. Can't rate the park negatively on that, because they eventually find it and will clean it. Good place for a nice and leisurely walk. Edit: there are fences all over the park now, making it not as enjoyable to walk. There are no signs as to what construction and plans they have for the park. read more

Once upon of time, while this place was always somewhat dirty it wasn't quite as filthy as it is now. It's sad that this place with such great historical significance is badly maintained. This is the park where the beginnings of my now family started to form and I have some fond memories of this place from 10 years ago. It makes me sad that I don't even feel comfortable returning here with my family because of the state it's now in. When they decide to stop neglecting the park and fix it up properly so that the park itself and the museum shine the way it should, then I'll return. I will say kudos for being where to grab free school lunches during the summer months and for having a free library box on site to take and borrow books at your liking. read more

It's sad to see this park looking like a huge garbage can where people are sitting on benches surrounded by garbage. the garbage can and under the benches and surrounding areas are full of Trash, While in quarantine during the first 3 weeks, this park looked beautiful and it was a pleasure taking a walk to breath and admire the true beauty of the park. Today it felt dirty and quite uncomfortable to even be inside or sit on one of the benches. This park is a landmark to the neighborhood of Jamaica Queens, yet no one is assigned to maintain the area? I didn't want to give it a star at all, but since it's the only way to get the review through, I gave it one star, which from what I have seen it really does not deserve it. Great little park. Home to the Rufus King Museum, which my date and I spontaneously decided to check out before throwing the ball around. For $5 admission fee, you get a guided tour of the home of Rufus King (politician, former US ambassador to Britain & a proponent of anti-slavery). It was actually a fun and educational thing to do! There's an astroturf area to play football (sorry, soccer). My date and I got to throw the ball around for a little bit here after the museum tour. read more

Clean and well maintained however other than the Rufus King museum, not must to see here. As mentioned before, it's an OK enough strolling park but I wouldn't attempt it after the sun goes down. read more

If you speak Spanish and play soccer, this is the spot for you. A large community of south americans who find parks with an open field and take over it. I have nothing against these folks but I rather not see them EVERY time I walk thru the park. The park is getting revamped right now and the part that they play soccer in, is being left alone so they can play soccer. LoL I will say I haven't encountered anyone whose been pissy drunk probably because its during the day. The park is huge and usually well kept. Theres a spot you can use free wifi but you can also go in the court house across the street and use their free wifi too *shrugs* Theres a big playground for the kids and toddlers but these tiny Spanish women act as if they don't see their kids trying to take over the slide or anything of use. They have a sprinkler system for the kids too. Ofcourse theres a handball court because that's another Hispanic "sport" LoL Im telling you, if your Spanish, this is your park! Im not even sure I seen a basketball court but why should they, I doubt anyone in that park is over 5'6 LoL And as far as some homeless people in the park SITTING down, they don't bother anyone. Where else are they suppose to go when the shelter they stay at doesn't let them back in til after 5pm? Im assuming they stay in a shelter because there is a single mens one in the area, I really don't know. Yes the park is getting a makeover but it isn't for the community at hand. This was my childhood park and it has come far from what it was. It is a dog FRIENDLY park ( if vaccinated, licensed and on leash ). I had quite an experience today dealing with some rude NYC Parks Sanitation that were exclaiming dogs were not allowed here, it's not a dog park; go check the sign. Clearly they can't comprehend basic English because dogs are not prohibited if not licensed by New York State, vaccinated, and on a leash. They tried to make me leave and made everyone else with a dog leave the park. I showed my dog license, vaccination tag, spayed tag, my dog was leashed and I had doggie bags. Be aware of these employees that don't understand the rules of the park and will force you to leave a public place. its an ok park, with a nice view of the rufus king museum. however once it gets dark, the homeless and the crackheads start to appear. Not to mention the huge sewer/train rats that run all over there. Omg I sat there and a rat the size of a small dog runs over my foot. its ok in the day. but stay away once it gets dark. read more
