Set off the main drag of St Albans competitive and compelling nightlife lies Mokoko's Cocktail and…read moreWine Bar. Deep dark purple signage suggests money and a member's club feel and once you have stepped up the hefty steps, a doorman heaves open the door, a treasure lies within. Believe me you do need money to come in here but boy is it worth it. The place was packed with it being a Saturday after pay day after a long and somewhat alcoholically dry January. I had with me an egg that I had stolen from Pizza Express. Yes a hen's egg. I vowed to love, nurture and cherish this gift of life, insisting it would one day hatch. The egg was a talking point with friendly punters and sadly as I placed her on the bar to photograph her, she rolled off, smashing beneath my platforms. The manager quickly came to the floors aid and scooped up the mess, with me saying "who would bring an egg to a lovely place like this?" in his ear hole. Ahem. We got served quickly, even though the bar area is tiny and were produced with a fantastic passion fruit cocktail with a shot of expensive champagne. Later I had a shot of tequila and an 80's Pina Colada which I have to say was the best I'd ever had. Even after real ones in Cuba. Music was current, cool and loud and I managed to burst into the VIP section and get brought some drinks for myself and the other two darling Nicola's. Result. To finish off my fabulous members only kind of evening I used my light fingers again to acquire a lovely chalk board. This lives on my kitchen table.

Cocktails galore and a fancy venue so can get nice and dressed up without the worry of being sat next to a burberry chav. Cocktails are around £8 each but if you don't fancy one you can always grab a popular beer. Don't fancy alcohol? Their non alcohol cocktails are just as much of a treat. I had the watermellon and pepper. Scrummy! Not your birthday? Impress that special lady on a first date. Mokokos do not serve food but it is is surrounded but popular italian restaurants. A great night out.

When we walked it, it was quite busy as a huge party was occupying a table across from us. A few other guest always dining as well. Not a big place but still very intimate and quite nice. Bar available but not sure if it's full bar. We did have a couple bottles of wine with dinner. Menu, straight to the point. Tapas and more tapas. As there was couple of us, we all chose three dishes to share. Each all looked amazing. The prawns, chorizo, mussels, meatballs, hummus, sun dried tomatoes salad, mushrooms, fried halloumi sticks, the skewers, pate, avocado toast, and croquettes. Everything was really good apart from it being slightly different from the states. The only downside, the skewer were a bit dry but presented beautifully. Everything was quite tasty and plenty to share for what we've ordered. Mussels were quite tasty in the sauce, chorizo was really good. Pate was more of sliced meat versus a spread. Service was great, staff was really friendly and chatty which was great. They ended the night for us with a little cocktail shot which was quite nice. Overall, amazing service, food was great, atmosphere was nice and friendly. Will definitely return.

First chance to check out this relatively new local venue in…read moremy local village and it was a huge hit. Small, friendly, a nice location just off the main shopping area, reasonably priced and generous portions. The food was delicious and worth venturing over for whether you are local or not! We had crisp halloumi, spiced aubergine with minced lamb, chilli peppered squid, pork belly and chips, a lovely crisp Pinot Grigio (my friend's a white drinker) and a couple of liqueur coffees. All this for £30 a head including a tip. The staff were efficient, attentive and charming. Young and energised, I loved the way all the front of house staff presented one table with a birthday dessert and sang with evident delight to the guest. We were made to feel very welcome despite booking a late table and the arrival of a large party of blokes who'd evidently been out for a Christmas get together added to the very European feel of this little gem. We'll be back

Thanks for that as our waitress hardly checked on us and walked right by without acknowledging us. I couldn't even flag her down for a jug of water or more milk as if she was trying to avoid us. I actually walked to the lobby to get a cup of water then asked Craig for some water as well as the kid's dessert. When trying to get the bill, she stormed right by us in a hurry to get another tables order in... that's great, but it would be great if you could just bring us a bill so we can leave. Obviously, we did something wrong that made you want to avoid us. I didn't even complain that you brought out garlic bread vs the cheese garlic bread. I didn't even bug you for ketchup when my daughter really wanted it. Geez. For the food: Chicken tikki curry: ok Beer battered Haddock & chips: smelled fishy and wasn't warm Kid's fried chicken jenga: delicious Rainbow beetroot: ok as I'm not a fan of mustard seeds that were all over it. The pistachio, beets and goat cheese was good. Overall, nice decor and place. The place seemed lively. The service lacked a bit but Craig made up for it. Thanks Craig. He gets the extra star for this restaurant. He was all over the restaurant and made sure everyone was fine.
