Bar available but not sure if it's full bar. We did have a couple bottles of wine with dinner. Menu, straight to the point. Tapas and more tapas. As there was couple of us, we all chose three dishes to share. Each all looked amazing. The prawns, chorizo, mussels, meatballs, hummus, sun dried tomatoes salad, mushrooms, fried halloumi sticks, the skewers, pate, avocado toast, and croquettes. Everything was really good apart from it being slightly different from the states. The only downside, the skewer were a bit dry but presented beautifully. Everything was quite tasty and plenty to share for what we've ordered. Mussels were quite tasty in the sauce, chorizo was really good. Pate was more of sliced meat versus a spread. Service was great, staff was really friendly and chatty which was great. They ended the night for us with a little cocktail shot which was quite nice. Small, friendly, a nice location just off the main shopping area, reasonably priced and generous portions. The food was delicious and worth venturing over for whether you are local or not! We had crisp halloumi, spiced aubergine with minced lamb, chilli peppered squid, pork belly and chips, a lovely crisp Pinot Grigio (my friend's a white drinker) and a couple of liqueur coffees. All this for £30 a head including a tip. The staff were efficient, attentive and charming. Young and energised, I loved the way all the front of house staff presented one table with a birthday dessert and sang with evident delight to the guest. We were made to feel very welcome despite booking a late table and the arrival of a large party of blokes who'd evidently been out for a Christmas get together added to the very European feel of this little gem. I've marked down because of 2 things: the wait for food and the service. The food took nearly 40 minutes, which seems an awful long time for 3 simple breakfasts! The service was friendly but very non-attentive - we had to call the waitress over whenever we wanted anything, including to order our food and drinks. There also wasn't enough cutlery on the table when the food arrived and we had to ask for it twice, which was a pain given the already long wait on the food. A really lovely setting and good ideas with the food and drink, but there seem to be a few teething problems which need ironing out.

Each time we've been there they ask about the last wine we bought and how we enjoyed it with food, etc. They take the time to get to know their customers and build a sense of community with everyone that walks into the shop.

However, on my recent trip back home to Berkhamsted, a quick Sunday night trip to this pub really stood out for being great. We headed out for a quick drink after a day travelling from wales and back. we get to the bar and there is a group of regulars sat at the bar so we order some beer on draft and go and take a seat, and play some of the quiz machine (for those interested we won 10 quid on battleships 2 off a 50p investment, a great start to the evening). We decide to grab another beer and this time the bar is a bit clearer, leaving us view to a huge selection of canned craft beers, I was in heaven. The barman was very friendly and tried as best as he could with the beers, was hard as they have no beer menu, so had to pick out beers based on labels. They also have a beer and cider from local breweries brewed especially for them. The cost of the beer is very competitive based on the town. its around 3 pounds for draft and the cans are 4 pounds each. The interior of the pub is nicely decorated and cosy. There is large amounts of seating outside under cover from rain., Outside you are located right on the canal and on summer its common to see people sat on the grass by the canal or on the lock enjoying their drinks. The locals are extremely nice (atleast when we were there), however on Friday/saturday the pub gets very busy and given the smallish bar can take a while to get served. They also have a quiz nights on Thursdays I was told, although sure if that's every Thursday. Definitely worth a visit if your in Berkhamsted.
