Delayed review. Went for color, not great experience. Can't remember the name of the girl I went to, but I specifically asked for someone that has experience highlighting dark Asian hair, it pulls very brassy when hair is bleached. Anyway the colorist they gave me had little experience overall bc she was young and ended up toning my hair about 3-4 times that visit. She was apologetic but that doesn't fix the damage done. I cannot recommend nor would I go back. read more

Seven yrs later, we moved to Elgin, but I happily make the drive up to north Hoffman Estates because I refuse to risk someone else ruining my hair. My stylist, Jenna, is nothing sort of incredible. Over the years, she's not only nailed my color every single time, but she's also become someone I consider a friend. Like most stylist she's part artist, part therapist, and knows my life story. Jenna's attention to detail is unmatched. She always listens, understands exactly what I want, even when I'm being too picky and recommends styles and products that actually work for me and my frizzy aging hair. Time to finally write a review that - in all honesty - was probably due a long, long time ago. I grew up the same as most guys, going to the same barber as our grandfather, uncles, father, etc. Ever the creature of habit, when my wife and I moved from the south western suburbs up to the Hoffman Estates area, I still made the regular trek down for my haircut. So maybe I am a little adverse to change? This worked well enough until a last minute business trip forced my hand to try something new. It was about 8 years ago, when my wife finally won the battle of trying her "salon". As another review referenced, I thought this would mean forfeiting my man card - my membership is on shaky ground anyways. While it would pain me to say it directly to my wife or the women there - especially Jenna - this has proven to be an excellent decision. Not only was I able to eliminate the near hour I was commuting to get my haircut, but as it turns out, they do an amazing job. The staff there is extremely friendly and will quickly have you swept up in an interesting conversation from the moment you walk through the door. While I have had a few of the ladies there cut my hair, Jenna has been my "go to" for quite some time. She has the keen ability to give a great haircut while balancing the duties of therapist and stand-up comedian. With all the craziness of real life and world around me, I am thankful to have regular opportunity to forget it all for just a little while. I thoroughly recommend Rue 62 to all, but would give additional encouragement for guys to give it a whirl. read more

I have been a client of Jenna's for many years now. Coming to Rue 62 is such a treat always - the ladies there are ALL so warm and friendly and Jenna has never once steered me wrong on my hair, she is a perfectionist with color and style and it always pays off to get it just right, every time! I would highly recommend her to anyone! My sister has also been going to her for years, and she decided to get her hair/makeup done there for her WEDDING day, and offer it up to the other girls in the wedding. Let me tell you --- they did a FANTASTIC job! We decided to get ready at the salon, which was a HUGE relief, they took care of everything, we had a nice clean and open space to get ready in, Nora was running around helping us set up food/drinks and it was so nice to have the help, and way less cramped than typical hotel suites bridal parties get ready in - they even had a special music playlist for us! I can honestly say EVERY girl LOVED both their hair and makeup... and for 10 girls that is a huge accomplishment! The stylists were able to pick up what all the girls wanted and we were all thrilled. There is a severe shortage of guys out there who are willing to write reviews for hair salons. This is ironic when you consider that there is no shortage of guys out there who visit them frequently. I don't really understand this whole mentality. Is being pampered by a bunch of hot women a badge of shame? I can assure any guys out there that might be hesitant, you will not be kicked out of your fantasy football league nor have your man card revoked for paying a visit to Rue 62. What you will get is a really sharp looking haircut, great service and engaging conversation that acts is a pleasant escape from the more mundane aspects of your daily life. Since I am relatively new to the area, I often turn to Yelp for recommendations for services I wish to patronize. In the case of Rue 62, they have all 5 stars from every single person who has took the time to write a review (including 27 which are filtered). It is exceedingly difficult for any business to hit the center of the bullseye that frequently, let alone a salon. Many women are as catty about salons as they are about shoes. To go this long without managing to get even one pissed off person to come here to vent is amazing, but to have all 5 stars from every single customer? Godlike. The common adage that "you can never make 100% of the people happy 100% of the time" is scripture in the business world. Rue 62 seems to be that rare anomaly that defies this convention. Pay a visit and you will see why. Since I had never been in before, I got randomly assigned to Melissa as my stylist and she was fantastic. She immediately put me at ease. The conversation flowed so easily that I almost felt as though I was conversing with her from the next bar stool over instead of sitting in a salon. Good hair stylists share a commonality with bartenders in that about 1/3 of their work is more social than professional, and this woman was on her game. Meaning very sweet and inquisitive, but not overboard like the flair guy from "Office Space" either. The shampooing, scalp rubbing and papering is wonderful and quite relaxing. The heavily aromatic shampoo used is the icing on the cake. The time went by so fast that before I hardly knew what was going on it was time for me to leave. As you also might expect, my cut looks amazing. She blended in everything perfectly and took off just the right amount to make it look neat and clean without making it look like I just enlisted in the Marine Corps. I am a creature of habit. It is just how I roll. Finding a good place to take care of my hair so I do not even have to think about it when the time comes is my preferred outcome. I would say it is safe to assume I will be a regular here. These girls obviously love what they do and it shows in how they treat their guests. The 5 star reviews from everyone here are completely justified. Lastly, first time Yelp check in's get 20% off of service too, which was a pleasant surprise on my way in the door. read more

You can't find a better salon; hands down best in Midwest! I have hair ADD; I need to change it up a few times a year but never know what I want to do next. I work with Jenna as I followed her from another salon. Her vision is amazing and she's learned what works for me and my hair. I've tried it all and every time is my new favorite. The salon is cute and trendy and they have a wide range of stylists who can help you be cutting edge or traditional. Prices are great for what you get. Nails, wax, they have what you need. Speaking of wax, my eyebrows look best after a visit there. I've tried those cheap places with a back room and I always break out and it's super painful. It is so scary switching to a different place!! The guy I always went to at the old place doesn't work there anymore, and I was feeling really nervous; worrying there was only one person who can do it "just" the way I want it. So I took a risk (because it's either that or never cut my hair again!). And Colleen did an amazing job!! I am super happy with how it looks, and she even gave me a tip to make my bangs "swoop". So I felt I had to write a review. I have ashy-blonde hair and it is very unruly, dry, and difficult to manage. I have tried a new hair dresser consistently every few months for the past 5 years trying to find SOMEONE that wont completely keep f*cking up my hair. I was very paranoid/skeptical coming in, simply because literally everyone messes it up. Last year i got a dye job from a very well known salon lady, who ended up making my hair look like eminem's bad peroxide job. So I came in, and I had the lovely lady Colleen. I told her what I wanted, and she actually listened! She made my hair the perfect color blonde. We all know blonde highlights can be difficult, they can turn out brassy or yellow. My hair is absolutely BEAUTIFUL on all levels. You can tell she puts great pride in her work. She was very easy to talk to, did a phenomenal job, and did exactly what i wanted done with my hair. Worth every penny. Needless to say, after hunting for a hair stylist for the past 5 years, i FINALLY found someone. Brenda was great! The staff here is so friendly and really make you feel welcome. They were kind enough to give me a call prior to my appointment to let me know they were running 15 minutes behind. Most places would just have you sit around and wait, so I really appreciated that. Brenda did an awesome job with my cut and color. She was friendly and attentive and gave me a cut/color that I absolutely love! There was another lady there who was very helpful and knowledgeable as well, I think she may have been the owner. I got a hair cut, and the actual cut wasn't terrible. The girl wasn't able to blowout my hair, and I have curly hair, but I've gotten blowouts many times before. It took her a long time to blowout my hair and the employees kept saying "you should've told us you have a lot of hair" saying it's my fault they weren't able to do a good job. And they charged extra because I have a lot of hair!!! So I went to a new salon and the girl was able to cut my hair and blowout without any problems.... so I do not recommend at all!!! read more

Came in to this salon for color, I wanted to go from dark blonde to medium brown brunette. After some lowlights and root touch-ups my hair ended up very dark brown, too dark for my complexion and not what I asked for. Next day, I came in and talked to Jenna, which I didn't realize until later is the salon owner. She was super nice, understanding and professional. She gave me a detox hair treatment to gently help fade the dark color. They also fit me in few days later and Hanna beautifully corrected my color with highlights and toning and turned my hair into a pretty bronde. My hair is still shiny and in decent condition. I'll be back for color maintenance. Everyone at the salon is very pleasant and it's obvious they strive to make their costumers happy, would definitely recommend. read more

I've been getting my hair cut and colored here for the past year, and prior to that I was the type of person that bounced around from salon to salon not really caring about who was cutting my hair. People at Rue 62 were immediately welcoming and do a fantastic job! We are fairly new to the Northwest 'burbs and I finally convinced my stubborn husband (who would travel an hour to go back to his barber) to go there and he loves it too. Our stylists are usually Avis and Jenna, but I've seen the great work that the other stylists have done as well. I met with Colleen, who listened to what I wanted, checked back with me to make sure I liked what she was doing, and was so easy and comfortable to talk to! I walked in not too sure how it would go, very much used to pushy hairstylists that don't take the time to really LISTEN to what you want, and walked out looking beautiful and feeling like I just spent an hour with my best friend! She is very friendly (everyone there is!) and makes you feel like you are a good friend and valued client.
