During a recent trip to Buellton, CA, my family and I decided to stop at Rudy's Mexican Restaurant for some good Mexican food, and I'm so glad we did! It was a beautiful, hot and sunny day, so we decided to sit outside and enjoy the weather. We ordered the shrimp taco plate, chicken taco salad, classic burrito, and some additional shrimp tacos that unfortunately didn't make it into the pictures. We were welcomed with fresh chips and had the opportunity to try as many salads as we wanted from the salsa bar. I also enjoyed a nice, cold Corona while we waited for our food, which was perfect on such a warm day. When our food arrived, everything was fresh, hot, and cooked to perfection. Everyone in my family enjoyed their meals, and there were absolutely no complaints. We were all full and satisfied when we finished, but instead of rushing out, we simply sat around and enjoyed the moment together. That's what makes a family meal even better. Our server, Ms. Gutierrez, provided excellent service. She was friendly, attentive, and consistently checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant was very busy, but the service remained great. The restaurant was also clean, welcoming, and had a great atmosphere. And the prices were very reasonable! Our bill for four people, including food and drinks, came in at under $85, which I thought was a great value. Overall, we had a fantastic experience at Rudy's. Great food, great service, reasonable prices, and most importantly, a great time with my family. I would definitely come back again the next time we're in Buellton. Stopped here with my family for breakfast after a camping trip to Lake Cachuma. First time visitors and we enjoyed the vibe, food and overall dining experience at this restaurant. The service was EXCELLENT! The food was very tasty and fresh, prices were reasonable for the portion sizes and the employees were extremely friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself was clean and well organized, We will DEFINITELY be back the next time we come out to visit Solvang which is only three miles east of this restaurant. read more

AWESOME authentic Mexican food. Fresh, large portions, fresh tortilla chips, inexpensive food and very friendly staff. My fave was the guacamole--so good and was generous serving. My first time here and as soon as I walked into the door, I was greeted immediately by a young lady and was advised about their weekly specials as well as the menus available. I was just coming back from my San Francisco trip and this spot just so happened to be nearby, so of course I had to come check it out. The music and decorations definitely was a plus too. We sat down and immediately were given some chips as well as access to the salsa bar. For many years, this place used to be really, really good. They raised their prices dramatically, but their quality went down. I used to stuff myself here because I couldn't stop eating, it was so delicious. Today, I threw away half my burrito. The meat is so dry. I've eaten here three times in about a year, hoping the last time was a fluke, but each time, it actually gets worse. I ordered a taco today, and it's like somebody just threw some random meat on a tortilla. Weird. Same dry meat. But it cost seven dollars. I mean, that's just a gut punch. Great food and huge crispy tacos. But beware. I purchased 1 taco. the counter person said $7.00, I said OK and tapped my card. I was given a receipt, however I did not look at it. When I got home I looked at my phone and my bank showed a $12.00 charge. I called Rudy's and asked why I was charged $12.00 for 1 taco and I was told that I pressed $5.00 for a tip. That is a complete lie! I did not press any buttons to add a tip and I know I did not press anything accidently as all I did do is tap my card on the card reader. BEWARE!!!! Stopped here on a whim, we were just passing through Buelton. We were surprised in the best possible way. Food was excellent, portions were huge and the staff were very friendly and engaging. Been to Rudy's numerous times over the years. I see a couple dinged reviews on here, but I have literally never had a bad experience here. Have always had fresh ingredients, great flavor profiles on every dish. My go to is their beef chimichanga. Kay's stop by there on the way home from down south. So we were in Solvang, drooling over bratwurst , pretzels, and sweets when BigMike says, "How about tacos?" So off to Rudy's we go. It was sooooooo good! I had the tres amigos burrito! Chicken, steak and shrimp! Avocado, rice, and beans! It's delicious! It was moist and flavorful and the shrimp were big. Warning the green salsa is a bit spicy. I'm a wimp so there's that. Miguel had the enchiladas suiza which were presented beautifully and tasted amazing. BigMike, you remember him, the guy who wanted tacos? He had the chicken chimichanga and it was fabulous. All portions were huge, totally filling. We are camping nearby and have the dogs with us. The service was so lovely. Even with the dogs they brought our food outside. Super friendly. My Spanish isn't always perfect so when enchiladas suiza got ordered as enchiladas sucias, they laughed just the right amount. lol. Like I get it, we were sitting outside in a parking lot, but it was so chill and friendly. Inside was quiet and enjoyable as well. As a first-time customer this restaurant did not make a good first impression. The place was busy (just one booth available) so we stood at the counter waiting to get a seat. The girl finished ringing up the customer in front of us, took an order over the phone & then proceeded to help the lady who came in after us. I asked if we could sit down & was completely ignored. I repeated myself then she finally told me I had to order first. There's nothing to indicate you need to order first, so we were not off to a good start. We hastily looked over the menu & ordered, as it was getting busier. I did something I rarely do, I didn't tip her anything. There is a salsa bar but no chips (I guess those are extra?). Our food arrived quickly and was quite good. We had the chicken enchiladas verde & combo burrito. The burrito is dry(no sauce) & comes with a small amount of lettuce & tomatoes. The chicken was amble, moist & very tasty. It's a shame the service wasn't as good as the food. read more

I go to Rudy's for lunch often and service and food is always good, however today...i called in an order for the chicken taco salad with an extra dressing, when I went in to pick it up the staff was rude and seemed annoyed. Really enjoyed our stop here! Decided to take a break and have lunch on our road-trip and this place didn't disappoint! The food had generous portions and was really flavorful. The favorite in our group was definitely the rice and beans; the rice had great flavorful and the beans were almost like velvet with how smooth it was. Came here to try the crispy taco. It was a Tuesday and the tacos were $3.50. The chicken crispy taco was pretty big with a lot of lettuce and cheese. The flavor was decent. Also got a soft taco which was much smaller and bland, tortillas not homemade. Was going to get a potato taco but it didn't come with sour cream, so passed on that. They brought tortilla chips to the table but no salsa. Order at counter and food is brought to you. Ambiance was fine. Located next to Albertson's with plenty of parking. read more

Went to Rudys again this week to get a al pastor torta. Total disappointment. I just walked a few feet from the restaurant to my vehicle and the torta bread was so wet, it literally fell apart. The meat is the kind you buy in bulk at the supermarket ( al pastor carne preparada) quality, to be honest with you, some pieces of meat were undercooked, whiteish and you don't want undercooked pork. The salsas were also a disappointment, the green salsa I got last week that was semi ok, today tasted soooo watery, no flavor, no spice. You need to be consistent with your food. Love so many of their dishes. But today tried a new one, a Chile Costeno. It is a fire roasted Pasilla Chile stuffed with grilled shrimp and melted jack cheese over a creamy chipotle sauce. Served with a side of rice and a tropical mango salad. Absolutely delicious!! The photo is attached. I don't know what they put in that creamy chipotle sauce but it was bomb!! My other all time favorite is their Molcajete. It is Amazing and loaded with either shrimp, chicken, meat, or vegetables. So, so good!! All of the options, it will not disappoint. This was the only place open when we were looking for a restaurant. As I walk to the front door I greeted the cashier with a good morning, no reply from her nor a "here is our menu" I had to look for the menu they had in a table. The cashier look annoyed and frustrated that 2 families walk in. As we sat down outside she only brought us one basket of chips knowing we were 2 separate families. The chips where not that good and at the bottom of it it had a old chess. Food wise was okay, no tortillas and we also had to look where the salsa was. I ordered potato taquitos and they were SO good! the guacamole was fresh, and the food wasn't greasy. Rice and beans on the side were also yummy. Updating my review because I had the absolute worst service I've ever had here tonight. The restaurant was very busy, which I can be understanding of, but their staff were so rude. One of the waitresses with bright red hair was so disrespectful. We never received chips before our meal came out and each time we asked, we were told "they're coming." The table behind us received two baskets before we even got one. When our food came, the waitress with bright red hair brought my husband a napkin and refused to get me one as well, stating "they're over there." She was walking away from our table while saying this. We also asked for the hot sauce, which she proceeded to tell us they didn't have any and to get the hot salsa from the salsa bar. However, when the other server heard this, she raised the exact sauce we were looking for and brought it to our table. The waitress with bright red hair never once apologized. When the table behind us got up to leave, they stopped and commented to us how bad the service was tonight too. They couldn't believe how mean the server was being. A different server came to clear the table and apologized for how the red haired staff had been acting toward us, but didn't try to remedy the situation at all. This was a terrible evening. Haven't been to Rudy's for at least five years, and didn't have plans to go back because it changed from delicious to mediocre. Our washing machine broke and we had to use the laundry mat around the corner to ensure we have clean clothes for an upcoming business trip. So we decided to give this place a chance. We sure are happy we did, we both enjoyed excellent service, amazing shredded beef tacos, and a nice cold drink. Our food was fresh and ready minutes after ordering, they have a salsa bar with several yummy salsas, and the tacos were enormous as well as delicious. Really you need only one taco for a full meal. We took my mother in law here for her birthday and we really enjoyed the food and the salsa bar. I got the Chile Relleno wet burrito and it was huge and delicious. They give you free chips and have a salsa bar to choose different salsas. Only gave the 4 stars because the ice machine was not working, and my daughter wanted tea but she barely got any before it ran out. Also, i did find a small hair in the green salsa from the bar.
