This is my journey with Markus of Rudis Tile. I found this company when we were looking for someone to do a kitchen remodel. Markus seemed knowledgeable, charming and competent. I liked his sassy responses to online critics. When we first met, I told Markus our budget. We went with him to pick out cabinets and granite and paid for everything. We had already purchased all new appliances and they were on hold at Abt. It was Covid and materials were very expensive, so Markus suggested we wait until prices came down. We agreed. Last February, we again told Markus our budget and he said he could start in 2 weeks. Due to Covid, no thrift store would pick up donations of a dining room table, buffet, hutch, six chairs and a huge glass china cabinet, so we paid $1K+ to have a junk company take our furniture. Next time Markus showed up, he said the project would cost even more than we had budgeted, and he earlier agreed upon/ Finally, the cabinet company needed to get our stored cabinets out of their warehouse last month. They deliver to the front of our condo building, so we hired a moving company to bring them up to the third floor. While talking with the driver from the cabinet company, he showed me the invoice. I was confused because we paid for the cabinets through Rudis Tile and the cost was $15, 126. The invoice the driver showed me was for $8, 526. How could that be? I asked Markus to stop by implying I had work for him, and I showed him the copy of the cancelled check and a copy of the invoice. His face went bright red, he said he "didn't know what that paper(invoice) was" and I was "never supposed to see that" and he fulfilled "the contract" because I "had my cabinets." Markus said he was going to talk to the manager of the cabinet company and find out what the invoice was and a lot of other nonsense. He left my home that day and I have not heard from him. I emailed him the other day and asked what happened with the manager of the cabinet company, but naturally, Markus did not respond. So, Markus overcharged us $6,600 for cabinets. I understand a contractor might markup materials, but 100%? Do not deal with Markus or Rudis Tile. He inherited this company from his father, and he has two other full-time jobs. Markus is, in my experience, a thief without a conscience. He knew my husband and I lived on disability and a pension, yet he chose to steal from us. I am sure Markus will have a sassy reply to this review, but just remember; he lies as easily as he breathes, and he is a thief. I know this because he robbed us of $6,600 and he lied about doing so. He jerked us around for 2 years, but we have finally found a great company to do our remodel. For a much lower price than Markus quoted. According to Markus, he "fulfilled his contract" because we have our cabinets. This person does not understand this is an ethical issue, not a contractual issue. Markus may stick to the contract, but he has no ethics as a business person. ******UPDATE ON THIS PROJECT***** I just found out that Markus did not order enough cabinets for the kitchen remodel! Now I have to wait to purchase the rest of the cabinets that Markus did not order! He claimed when I spoke to him that I "changed the design 3 times" which is not true. I changed it once due to financial reasons. Markus did not properly measure the space and did not update the design when I did the one change. Now I am short at least 4 base cabinets. Markus screwed us once again. DO NOT EVER DEAL WITH THIS DISGUSTING MAN. read more

This is the worst experience I have had. Markus presented himself as professional in providing me with an estimate of what he would be doing in tiling my fireplace. He showed up to demo the next day only to collect $400.00 since there wasn't much prep work that needed to be done. He told me he would be back on Monday but texted me the night before saying he would not be able to make it. He indicated that would be to my home first thing on Tuesday. He had seen the tile that I wanted to put on my fireplace when he provided me with the estimate. When he was suppose to do the job, he told me he could not get the 45° cuts that I wanted to go around the fireplace and insisted on doing it a different way. An hour later he told me that it was the wrong material and he couldn't work with it, therefore, I needed return the five boxes of heavy marble tile. He couldn't make it back until Thursday to start the job. Once he got to my home it was very evident The $1400 "he quoted me did not include any kind of design since he complained that I was asking for it to be done a certain way. He told me it would cost me more money. His job was to just sit on a bucket while his worker brought him the poorly cut tiles so he could place them on my fireplace. He placed his first tile literally over the top of my opening to my firebox. This is not a company that should have tile and design in their name. Markus does not take pride in his work, provide great customer service, treat his worker with respect, clean up since he left my patio furniture covered in marble dust that I can't get off or believe in a job well done. I'm out $500.00 since he asked me for another $100.00 that Thursday he showed up and did a horrible job. He came back on Friday to finish the job, but I could not let him continue based on the poor results of his work. If you want your job to be done by a professional don't call him. read more

Markus and the crew did a great job on installing my new range hood. He came to my house and did estimation on the same day and came back the next morning to do the job. There was an add-on piece to convert the range hood to ductless and the package didn't come with necessary screws and buds, Markus and the crew managed to make it work with their own parts(In comparison, another contractor wanted to charge us 100 bucks to go get screws for us at Home Depot). Overall very happy with the work, would definitely recommend it to others. read more

Gets the job done, but be prepared to be over budget. I hired Markus to do some minor renovation work in my condo (floor, lighting, backsplash). I was out of town for the duration of the work so I was relieved he got the job done. However, he charged me over $1,000 extra on an approx. $6,000 job without clearing any change orders with me while he was doing the work. So it was a big shock when I came to inspect and pay and he sprung this extra big bill on me. Not sure why these extra costs wouldn't have been included in the estimate, as he assured me it was a conservative quote he was giving me in the beginning. He also had a few items that didn't have great attention to detail such as two vinyl planks put next to each other with identical design (makes that part of the floor look unnatural). But overall very satisfied with the quality of the work. Would have given 5 stars if he had stuck to the budget or asked for approval to spend more during the work process. read more

Markus did a great job with the floor and wall tile in our kitchen, so when we were ready for tile in our master bathroom we gave him a call. He did an excellent job throughout! He even installed our shower door, as the screws would be penetrating the moisture barrier and he wanted to make sure we didn't have water/mold issues in the future. He connected us with a quartz supplier to help us find just the right remnant so we didn't have to purchase a full slab. He really does want every project to finish strong. If you're looking for your project to be completed in the cheapest possible way, don't call Markus. But if you want a quality job completed by someone with experience - Markus is your guy. read more

Rudi's helped me choose tile to install on my stairs and hallway. The owner is very hands on and gave me recommendations on where to purchase quality tile. His crew installed the hallway in one day and the stairs in 2 days, had to install boards on the risers. the owner picked up the boards and delivered them so the install could continue, The job looks great after he installed the floor molding I picked out . great job Markus! read more

We could not have been happier with the job that Markus and his team did. We had them come in and completely renovate our bathroom and it was a great experience from start to finish. Their professionalism throughout the process set us at ease. We went out and had a few people quote and although they weren't the lowest, hemade us very comfortable and we wanted to go with Rudi's. We were greatful that we did. The end result was fantastic. They paid attention to all the small details - everything was perfect. We were out of town and unable to react when issues came up (mainly due to us purchasing the wrong or not enough material). Over promised and under delivered! If you want a contractor that takes responsibility and do the right thing, Rudi Tile and Design is NOT your guy! I receive my final bill and he charged me an incremental 25% of the initial quote, primarily due to him underestimating the job. I realize there are additional costs for unforeseen issues, but this amount is ridiculous. As a result, stay away as he will underbid the job and more than likely will cost you more than if you went with someone else. Furthermore, he's not someone you want to do business with. The contract stated they would cover the working area, but they failed to initially cover working area, stained my carpet tried to cover up by cleaning it and then denying the stain was done by him. When questioned said he wasn't aware and the stain was there previously. I showed him pictures of the initial stained area and then after when the stained was attempted to be cleaned. I provided him with details and how the fibers had been scrubbed to the point where they are ruined in the stained area. I tell him he must purchase new carpet or have someone come out to fix. Says no worries I'll take care of...that's why we have insurance. He tells me he will send someone one out to fix, they proceed to mention they are unable to fix due to the different wear patterns. I discuss options with him and he continues to dispute he made the stain and won't provide funds for new carpet. Not worth the headache......Overpromised and underdelivered! read more

Markus and his team did an excellent job for me at a fair price. Several attempts to re-grout and seal my shower floor with other vendors failed to hold up, but Markus solved it for good. They were on time, covered the work area to keep it clean and even did some extra work at no additional charge. My wife and i recently moved into our first condo and wanted to do some small renovations to make it feel like "our" home. the bathrooms (one full and one half-bath) were old and outdated so we decided to tile the floors, add a new vanity and new lighting. after a few days floundering, trying to get it done myself i asked some friends to come do it for "friend prices"...that didnt work out (as usual). so i swallowed hard and called a professional and to my delight we found Markus. He came right over and looked at what we wanted to do and gave some great suggestions we hadnt thought of. we previously bought most of the materials needed but were missing some which he got for us. My main concern about tiling was the wet saw. we're on the third floor and there was no way to use a wet saw without making a huge mess for us and our neighbors (not what you want when youre the new family). but Markus was able to cut the tiles using an alternative sawing method that no one else had suggested (my friends or Luna). it was quite and didnt leave any mess behind. we were shocked. Installing the vanities required some customization and a few more trips to Home Depot for Markus but that was not reflected in the final cost which we were very happy about. the estimate he gave was very reasonable, not too much more than what my friends had quoted us. the final cost was at the upper range of his estimate but when installing the vanities we found that part of the dry wall behind the old vanity had been rotted-out. he was able to replace the damaged dry wall, finish the vanity instal and seal the grout in the same day. he could have charged more but stuck to the upper range of the original estimate...a rare quality in todays renovation market. i would recommend Markus to anyone for any kind of home improvement. he was fast, clean, polite and made sure to tell me what he was doing at every step. there were no surprise added costs. we having Markus back to do all of our renovations. next step...KITCHEN! read more

I feel like when I read the previous review, it had to be two different companies/people we were talking about. Markus did a fantastic job for us. He was more of a perfectionist than my husband, which is saying a lot. Our job was a challenge. We wanted porcelain tile on our covered front porch. The porch itself was not an average front porch. It's very wide with uneven concrete and there are 3 different depths. This job required a lot of cutting and leveling. Only a detailed professional could come up with the RIGHT way to do this. I think if it had been by anyone else, they would have laid it down as is, saying there was no other way to do it. But Markus took the time to show us and explain to us everything. He also used his experience to suggest a different pattern rather than the standard side by side one we were planning on having. It's beautiful (sort of a herringbone). The tile that we chose looks like natural bluestone and therefore has a faint hint of contrast on some of them so he looked at every one and made sure to stagger the more solid-colored ones with the varied-colored ones. It looks just like bluestone. Everyone that has seen it has been shocked when we told them it was porcelain. He cleaned up at the end of every day. The job took longer than expected due to the terrible weather we've been having. So all I can say is our experience with Markus was wonderful. The finished project looks even better than what we expected. read more

I was renovating a house and ran into problems with two bathrooms. We needed a new tile shower installed and a bathtub re-glazed. I found Rudi's Tile online by reading other positive reviews. I called the number listed on the website and was greeted by Markus, the owner. This is his personal cell number. He did not rush me and followed up with me two days later, coming to my house for an estimate. The price he quoted was slightly higher than some others, but the quality of work and attention to detail he provides is worth it. It took me a long time to find someone who was really an expert in installing kitchen back splashes. I'm so glad I took the extra time to find Rudi's. The high quality of their work, their customer service (even picking me up and taking me shopping for tile), the pride they take in what they do (even caring a lot about the quality of the grout they use) made my experience with them an excellent one.
