Ms. Deborah and I had Sunday brunch at Graceland Inn & Restaurant on the Davis & Elkins College…read morecampus in Elkins, West Virginia, and it was excellent from start to finish.
The setting alone makes it worth the trip. It's a beautifully restored historic inn with warm wood interiors, white tablecloth dining, and great views over Elkins. It was a sunny afternoon, there was live music on the portico, and the place was full of people enjoying themselves without feeling crowded.
The brunch was well done and had a good variety. Eggs Benedict served over quinoa with hollandaise sauce, along with scrambled eggs, sausage, and bacon. There were also scalloped potatoes, beef stew, hummus with pita, buffalo chicken casserole, and steak with broiled broccoli. Fresh scones, beignets, and a build your own parfait station rounded it out. Mimosas were available as well.
What stood out most was the service. Samy, our table host, was attentive and professional. Chef Matt Tyree came out to greet us and spent time at the table, which tells you a lot about the care they put into the experience.
There's a reputation that Graceland is expensive, but that hasn't been our experience. Prices are in line with other places in town, but you're getting a full white tablecloth meal in a historic setting. Much of the food is locally sourced, and it shows.
Dress is relaxed. Blue jeans and everyday clothing are welcome, which makes it easy to enjoy without feeling out of place.
If you're in Elkins and haven't been, it's worth your time. We'll be back.
