We've been to multiple Ruby Sunshine locations previously but this one needs work. Everything was sticky, service from door to check payment was subpar, slow, and lacked personality. Food was cold, and tasted bland. Environment was bright, but dingy and needed to be deep cleaned. read more

So we came in and learned there is free parking in the back which is nice to know for the future. Our server seemed very new but either way I tried to make the procedure as easy and straightforward as humanly possible. We ordered the St Charles and southern breakfast, I was specifically referring to my poached eggs when I asked her to please make sure they were poached and not hard poached. She seemed to have an attitude about it but I ignored it and happily ordered a coffee for my spouse and prayed for the best. Unfortunately the eggs weren't correct, they were very hard poached, solid. With a smile I politely requested the eggs to be redone and she wasn't happy about it but took the plate, the manager brought it out and they were perfect. My only complaint would be the biscuits were delicious in the "mid portion " but very obviously over kneaded, I didn't want to wait twice for my food so I just ate the middle portion and took my 2nd one home, the meal was delicious outside of those two issues. I had a rare opportunity to brunch on a Saturday. There was not much traffic because of the football game. Parking was a breeze. We joined the waitlist ahead of time, so there was not much of a wait, plus the day was beautiful. Of course, it was busy with it being new restaurant in town.    Customer service was pretty good. Again, when new restaurants open in town, I expect staff to be overwhelmed, so I try to give a little grace.    Our table ordered the biscuits and gravy plate, a side of regular crispy fried chicken, banana foster French toast, catfish and grits, loaded tots, pancakes, and a side of catfish. My catfish was delicious. It was seasoned and fried well. The banana foster french toast and the pancakes were really good. Both were way better than I expected. The loaded tots were really good too. I had the pleasure of dining during the special preview prior to grand opening. Let's just say, downtown Columbia is in for a treat. I was greeted and seated as soon as I entered. I met with the General Manager and Head chef who were in town preparing for opening day. Inviting ambiance. The staff was friendly and eager to serve me. Now let's get to the good eats. I had the pleasure of trying the seasonal apple pie pancakes with chicken sausage, pumpkin and marshmallow beignet, catfish and grits and a blue orange mimosas. 10/10 across the board. The plate I was delivered 1st was totally incorrect, they took it back....waited until my wife had finished her meal and then some.....then my plate came without the order of bites that were part of the deal. After much ado about nothing, finally convinced them the order was incomplete and they brought them finally. They were really good. The rest of the breakfast was average at best. Not what I would expect for a $60 breakfast. The experience was such as I doubt we will be returning. Way too pricy for food and nothing to make it worth that much. I ordered a Florentine omelette which was sensational. It came with a buttermilk biscuit which was scrumptious. I wanted to try the white chocolate bread pudding pancakes but there was no way I could possibly eat the entire stack, so I asked our server if they offered a half a stack. Got treated to Mother's Day brunch here, and it was amazing. I always have anxiety about going out after church on holidays because of the crowds, but I was so pleased. The staff were super nice, and we were able to join a wait list early so it was only about 10 minutes before we got seated. Our server, Josiah was fantastic. We had a large group with three toddlers for a little extra fun, but he was so polite and attentive. The menu made it very difficult to choose, but we tried almost all the appetizers and you definitely cannot go wrong there. From the breakfast tacos to the kids meals, the food was AMAZING. The ROMEO lunch group was here Tuesday for our weekly restaurant tour of Columbia. We had seven this week and it was the first time at Ruby's for all of us. I must say that when I first went in I was surprised at the change from the old Yesterday's place. It's totally revamped, opened up and bright. My first impression was that it was so loud...just as a morning diner usually is. The ambience is pretty loud and noisy, probably due to how opened up it is. Our waitress was Ilona, and probably all of us agreed she is about the friendliest, nicest and one if the best waitresses we've had. She took our drinks, explained and answered a ton of questions we had about the menu. She also recommended what her favorite items were. The Digman had to order beignets (6) for the table. I was hoping they'd have Chicory coffee and Ilona said their coffee was made with chicory, but it's not the heavy chicory like you get in New Orleans. Several of us ordered coffee. We all agreed that the Beignet was good, but we've had better. It wasn't as fluffy or as light as you get at Cafe du Monde or another place in town that has beignets. I doubt if I'd order the beignet again. As far as the food goes, we had a real diverse rating from one end of the table to the other. Two of us ordered the Cochon Benedict (biscuit, apple smoked ham, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce). We both loved it. Probably the best tasting Eggs Benedict I've had. My only issue was that one of the eggs was poached a bit more than the other...so it wasn't runny. The second egg was better. The biscuit was a tad hard to cut, but I didn't have too much problem. Five of the guys that had biscuits all said their biscuit was also hard. One person ordered the cinnamon swirl pancake and said it was very good. We had one order of the Migas and he also liked it. One order of the Ruby's Special Blackstone Benedict, which he was not satisfied with at all. He gave it a rating of one, basically because both of his eggs were totally poached and basically a hard boiled egg. He also didn't have the strength to cut his biscuit ( he is a weak man!). The other order was for a 3 pigs or something like that. He must've had a biscuit also because he also said his biscuit was hard to cut. The last order was for a breakfast sandwich. He wasn't a happy camper either, giving a rating of 2.0 for his sandwich. Bottom line is we had seven ratings of the food (1, 2, 2, 3.5, 4.5. 4.5, 4.5). So if I average them all out we end up with a 3.0 rating. I definitely will go back because I'd like to try their Catfish and Grits with Tasso Cream Gravy and also their Shrimp and Grits. When we our bill several of the guys mentioned about the hard biscuits and the over poached eggs to our waitress. Ilona was surprised that we didn't mention it to her so she could've corrected it. I don't know if others have had the problem, but at least they know about it. One other issue is that it's a bit pricey. I had the Cochon Benedict and a coffee. My bill was $25.75. Some reviewers say they shouldn't review prices, but I feel it's good to know upfront, as some people price may a factor in trying out a new place. read more

I found out about them last week and decided to try them because I love a good brunch! The location of it is awkward but visible from the mains street. I went at 9:30 and it was not busy at all which I prefer. It is very spacious inside which I was suprised at given the usual breakfast/ brunch places I've been going to in columbia. The decor is bright and they have a bar which is also nice. I ordered the peace maker in which you get to choose 2 Benedict dishes for $17. I got the fried chicken Benny and the shrimp bayou Benny and a New Orleans based coffee. They have flavoring for your coffee and almond milk for the non dairy people. My dad ordered the French toast bites with a side of scrambled egg and bacon. Our server was nice and helpful with the menu and suggestions. My critique is that depending on what you order you don't get any sides with it. My dad paid extra for the egg and bacon. The French toast BITES by themselves were $11 and that's crazy for no side(s) come with it. Mine didn't come with a side either. The food was good overall. I preferred the shrimp bayou benny over the fried chicken benny only because the fried chicken itself didn't have any real seasoning or flavor to it but the gravy and sauce on both was DELICIOUS. I didn't get to try the mimosa flight because I was driving but I'll be back to try them and some other dishes. read more

This was our first time eating here since it opened about 6 months ago. I would definitely recommend this place for brunch. The food was amazing fresh and hot. The sausage gravy biscuits were amazing. The biscuits are true light flack from scratch southern style. Our server was very gracious and checked on our group of 5 often. We were greeted on arrival and seated as soon as all of our party arrived for our reservation. It has a decent parking lot and a diner type feel. The menu has a decent amount of options for brunch and a kids menu. Unfortunately we were never assigned so we had to ask for a server and even though she was very nice, we had to request our drinks from the bar more than once as I think we were not part of her original tables to cover. The flight from the bar arrived 49 minutes after it was originally ordered. The food was good but it was breakfast. The Benedicts were good, the omelets were good. The grits were well cooked. The burger was very dry The kitchen staff outside spoke about how overpriced the food was for what they were preparing and that did make me laugh as we we just talking about Waffle House breakfast since a new one had opened up in our neck of the woods. The irritation for me was the larger party that was seated behind us got their drinks and meals before our table did. Honestly the food was not what I expected. Between my friends and I three of us ordered the breakfast potatoes and they all came cold. For some reason one of the orders was just burnt crispy pieces with barely any actual potato to them. The Irish coffee and the iced Irish coffee tasted terrible.
