I have been coming to the Rubs Wilmot location off and on for a few years now. Almost without exception, it has always been an overwhelmingly positive experience for me, as well as the family members and friends that I have brought with me or treated to massages. This has included wedding presents, graduation gifts, birthday and Mother's Day celebrations, and one time a gift card for a stressed out coworker who just frankly needed to treat herself!
Many years ago, I called up one day for an emergency appointment to deal with a migraine that just would not go away. I had never asked for an entire hour long service to be dedicated to my HEAD, but this was exactly what the doctor ordered! The therapist focused on my scalp, face, neck and shoulders, and at the end of an hour I was experiencing the first relief I'd had all day. The ONLY negative was that the therapist smelled faintly of cigarettes, which was a slight turn off, but his strong hands and excellent technique overcame that.
I have also booked a facial once at Rubs (only the second one I've ever had in my life.) It was lovely and relaxing, and the esthetician was knowledgeable and friendly - not pushy or judgemental (a very real concern for someone like me, who does not focus regularly on skin care, cosmetics, or other "girly" things!)
All of my other appointments, and those that I've shared with loved ones, have been four hour or hour and a half treatments. (One of these days, TWO HOURS OF BLISS!!!) I generally go in for basic relaxation, but have gotten smart and asked for targeted treatment on my shoulders which seem to be predisposed to perpetual, UNYEILDING tightness. I generally turn myself over to the expertise of the therapist and let them try whatever they think might work, and that approach has never done me wrong.
(A unique situation happened when I was complaining of some hip and lower back pain that I think might have been sciatica. The therapist, a young, peppy, energetic woman who's name I cannot remember, tried an unfamiliar technique of pressing almost painfully on a spot but then lifting and rotating my lower leg "like an antenna" until the pain magically disappeared! Weird, but effective, and I was happy that I had trusted her!)
I especially want to call out two therapists with whom I have been especially pleased to work: ASHLEY O. (past) and SARA (present.)
Ashley was the first to give me a massage that was both relaxing and almost CHIROPRACTIC in nature. Very "manipulative" and interactive in terms of bending and pressing and working in different angles. I was very comfortable the entire time, my shoulders felt much better after, and I left more in tune with my own body. I was very pleased to have several more treatments with Ashley. :)
Lately, I have been working mostly with Sara, and she is the consummate professional. Soft spoken and gentle, yet with strong hands/body and masterful technique. She tackles my shoulders with AUTHORITY but the rest of the full body masssge is wonderful as well. And, she is genuinely friendly and makes the effort to connect with me, which I appreciate. :)
I have also worked with a few other therapists randomly over the years and have always found that the Rubs staff is communicative and responsive to me as a client. When I first work with a therapist, I find myself a little chatty, wanting to get to know them and their background - not in an "interview" sense, but just respectful curiosity about a profession and training that fascinates me. The therapists have always been interesting to talk to and the communication has never distracted or taken away from my treatments.
Financially, massage therapy appointments are definitely a luxury for me. I am a teacher and don't have a lot of disposable income. But I have recently decided that taking care of myself will be my priority, and this is one of the best investments I make (outside of travel!)
Definitely become a Rubs member and take advantage of the discounts that that affords you. Even when the salon is offering a web special, the membership can also be applied for additional discounts. Being smart about when I book my appointments has allowed me to have longer therapy sessions or get massages more often, and I do appreciate that!
Also, I have never experienced high pressure sales, and I respect and appreciate that. The staff has always been good about informing me of benefits, but I have never had product pushed on me or felt pressured at the desk. Very professional and appropriate!
All in all, I am happy to be a loyal client of Rubs! I am not made of money, and neither are any of my friends or family members, but I have been proud to recommend this business and it's amazing therapists, and I'm only ashamed that it has taken me this long to post my glowing reviews!
Well done, team!!! read more
