New tapas-style restaurant in Stone Harbor. The restaurant is split in two with one side being more "loungey" and the other being more of a traditional restaurant atmosphere. Our server recommended three dishes per person, so my party of 4 ordered practically the entire menu. Dishes come out as they're ready, but we were disappointed that every dish came out at the same time. It was tapas overload! One reviewer referenced that the physical size of the dishes are small, and they were spot on. The dish the Shrimp and Grits were served on was tiny. It held three average size shrimp with barely any grits to speak of. The Corn Ribs were unique, but a little difficult to eat. The Cuban Cigars were ample in size, as were the Beef Lettuce Wraps. We selected an apple tart-style dessert with vanilla ice cream. This restaurant seems to close pretty early, so don't expect to be there for long if you have a later reservation. 4% surcharge for credit cards. This is a little higher than other establishments. BYOB so don't forget your vino. Rubia was likely a one-and-done for us. read more

Rubia is a great new spot in Stone Harbor! Located where Marabella's used to run shop. It's great that a tapas style restaurant has entered Stone Harbor. It's something the town really needed! We went here the other night and it was a fantastic time. It's BYOB so we brought cocktails and wine to enjoy with the tapas. In terms of tapas, we pretty much ordered everything from the menu. For the most part everything was delicious. A few dishes left a lot to be desired but overall it was pretty good. With it being a new restaurant, there are still some wrinkles to be ironed out. First being the plates are too small. And by that I mean the actual physical dishes. They need to be a bit larger. Another aspect needs to be tweaked is the service. They weren't bad by any means just were out of sync. I suspect when they get more and more experience as a restaurant it will get better. read more

Just what Stone Harbor needs, another pricey (overcooked scallops for $42, pass) yet mediocre option for dinner. First Toastique invaded with mediocre, pricey lunch...now this. My husband and I were so excited to try this new tapas gem in our home-away-from home. Starting with positives, the small plates offered hearty portions. The pork belly is exceptional. The rest was meh. Avoid the "corn rib". It's meant to mimic street corn but it's hard to eat and tasted sour. I let the waitress know we didn't love it. She gave it a big recommendation and made it clear she didn't want to hear my review, which is what prompted me to leave one here. read more

Stopped in to Rubia Thursday night 6/15/23. I had reservations. Exciting new spot to eat! First time visited. First thing to grab my attention was dual atmosphere of a relaxed sitting area or a traditional table dinner area. I chose to have my dinner in the table area. I reviewed the menu on line so I was ready. The waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The owners stopped at the table to say welcome. I had the corn ribs to start - yowzer flavorful! Really sad! I wanted to love this place. Service was ok. I love tapas but these are TINY and not great quality of food. They mix weird flavors and everything was just missing something. Been coming down here for decades and I'm happy to see this as an addition downtown! The food was very good - our personal favorites were the corn ribs and the beef empanadas - and service was very friendly. Small plates were definitely tapas-style, as advertised, and we found them totally sufficient for four of us to each get a few bites. We ordered 7 small plates total, and then two members of our group got big plates and we all left stuffed. The only complaint we had, and this echos the other reviews, is that the actual personal plates for eating off of are WAY too small. I saw them described as "glorified teacup saucers" and this felt accurate. In my view that's really the only negative - and even with that, we're looking forward to going back! read more

You can totally skip this place in Stone Harbor. We all wanted to like it, as our families have been on the island for every 30 years. Every dish could not even be considered small, every dish was minuscule, and overpriced. I would've given that a pass, if the dishes were good, but every dish was a miss. The pork belly was ridiculously small, and grossly over salted. For the octopus, they did not remove the slimy outer skin, and it was barely warm. The tuna taco had absolutely zero flavor. It was so disappointing. Our server, Kelly, was very nice. Unfortunately, the manager stopped by before we got any food, and he did not stop by after we received our food, so we were not able to give him the above feedback. I always say, would I go back here? My answer is clearly no. I do not recommend this over priced tourist restaurant. read more

Everything was tasty. But still very disappointing overall. Despite saying that the dishes were "tapas style" and designed for sharing...they really are not. Some (like the Cuban cigar) are not easily divided/shared at all; others (like the meatballs) can be shared, but the portions are super-small for the pricing. We ordered more than the recommended number of dishes (they say 2 dishes per person) and had also had some snacks at home before dinner...but we still left hungry. On the plus side, it is more or less next door to Springers, so you can fill up on ice cream! read more

Having eaten at most of stone harbor's restaurants for 20+ years, we were very excited for a new place to try. And Rubia is really cute, with lots of promise. However, no one greeted us and we stood around for a while waiting to be seated despite a mostly empty restaurant and a reservation. There was a lot of confusion as to who actually was going to wait on us though I will say our server was lovely once she finally showed up. Rubia's small plates are the smallest I've had by far, and I love tapas and eat it a lot. And I mean small both in terms of the dishes and the actual plates, which are essentially teacup saucers. We ordered corn ribs, Brussels sprouts, meatballs, paella, & Peruvian chicken. There was a scallop dish on special but the night we were there it was the same dish as the regular menu dish. The chicken and Brussels were the best, though I would have loved more than 4 sprouts in the skillet. The corn was fine, but lacked seasoning. The two most egregious dishes we had were the meatballs and the paella. First of all, what they're serving is *not* paella - no shrimp, no peas, and no crunchy rice, just some rice swimming around in broth with a pile of saffron on top. This is $34. The chicken is the same chicken served in the Peruvian chicken dish so eating both is redundant. The meatballs are....what can I say. I love meatballs, I always order this dish at tapas restaurants and it always comes with lots of sauce and grilled bread and actually delicious meatballs. Rubias are fried/dry, with little sauce and the same paella rice dumped in a pile in the middle of the skillet. We asked for bread and were told it's not allowed. What even. I've read through the more Glowing reviews on this site and my only guess is that everyone ate a very late and large lunch the days they went, because we were starving when we left. And out $100 + wine. Good luck, don't come hungry. The concept is great and I hope they work out these kinks. In theory this is a great addition to the stone harbor dining scene. read more

Six of us just had the pleasure of dining at Rubia on Saturday, 7/15. To sample everything, we ordered the entire menu, which are small plates to share. Wanted to love this place. Always pulling for the newbies. Also wanted to be fair, realizing they are working out the kinks. But the formula isn't going to work. 1. Service. If you are double- or triple-sat, or overly busy, let your table know. We are all human. But don't just disappear for 20 minutes. Especially when you promised to open our wine and we need it to deal with what's to come. 2. Plates are too small (literally)...I get it it, tapas is for sharing, but these plates are so small, and the portions so tiny, it's like for a table of 4, each person just gets a nibble. My husband ordered the steak frites and for $26 in NEW YORK we could have had a steak frites with a real steak and some fries and this was again the super small plate with like a few tiny slices of steak and two potatoes. Also agree with another reviewer, the corn ribs were hard to eat and looked better than they tasted. The cuban cigar was ok but hard to share and isn't that the point of tapas? Sorry to say we won't ever be going back. Wish we would have walked out with our unopened wine and saved the $$. read more
