Gone downhill since Luke bought this place, Fast ...Employees blasting music so loud you can't hear them when you're trying to place an order. Every single item that I ordered was burnt. Didn't get my order even close to correct. I miss when this place was a mom and Pop stop On my way home from work. My family and I have been coming here for over 40 years when it was Armans. It has steadily gotten worse. If you go in pay attention to the cooks they come back and forth to the register and do not wash their hands. Food is luke warm by the time it comes out or isn't hot at all. Have eaten here before there are two lazy hillbilly type workers that frequent here . The one blond woman has been here a while I don't know how she kept her job this long . Above average hot dogs here with fries . Have to repeat your order about three times before they get it right . Today I didn't have a taste for reg hot dogs I wanted a double dog meaning two dogs on one bun . Both women looked at each other then at me then at the menu board . She says we don't have double dogs on the menu and we can't make you one . I politely said you could charge me for the extra hot dog I don't care I just had a taste for this today . She looked at her worker again and said how do I make one. The other woman tells her I have no idea they look at me and the blond woman says I'm sorry we don't have what it takes to make that order . For stars for the potential the building has. Three arched roof is unique in a time of boxes and the hobo statue out front always brings a smile. The building's age works against it here. The forty plus year old structure needs some love and I perceive the owners are trying to stay ahead of upkeep. Food is good and reasonably priced. Service quick and food made to order. Went for the first time yesterday, we had a big order, wings, shrimp, Italian beef, fried pickles, 2 burgers and a lot of fries. We took it home and I took my second bite of the Italian beef and there's a long black hair wrapped in the meat. I was so disgusted! My boyfriend was eating the shrimp and yet again another long black hair in the fries! Never again! I called to complain.. I did not request a refund nor credit, nor a new order. Had the Rueben, French fries, cheese sticks and hot grilled ham and cheese. All excellent, cooked and served within 10 minutes. Kinda regretting not getting the Chicago Dog but we will try next time. Just a note, there is a sewer smell/problem going on somewhere, but don't let it stop you from getting go food (probably do that next time the smell was really strong especially in the bathroom where there were 5 air fresheners put there in an effort to mask it) also the dining area was pristine for an older place. I totally get that only certain things are within the control of a restaurant. However, those things that are not contribute to the atmosphere and overall experience, so they factor into a review. Keeping that in mind, I had one of the most hilariously terrible experience at Ruben's recently. I used to work in Lake County and Ruben's was one of our frequent lunch joints. I was recently back in the area and decided to stop in for a quick dog. I had about 30 minutes to burn and figured, "how long can a pre-cooked piece of sausage take?" I was about to find out. Ruben's is a greasy, no frills kind of place. You order at the counter and I remembered the dogs being good (how can they not be) and cheap. This time I ordered a Chicago dog. I pay and sit at a table. Five minutes passes. Ten minutes. Fifteen minutes. I go back to the counter and ask to change my order to to-go. The very nice girl working the counter says, "ok" but I'm not really met with any urgency or "oh man, you're still waiting?" I wait, standing at the counter, for another five minutes. Then the hilarity begins. An older, clearly local couple strolls in and orders about $15 worth of food. The woman pays with a credit card and then out of the blue from the other side of the restaurant her husband starts screaming that the place smells like sewer gas (I hadn't noticed any odor) and that since the owner was "too cheap to fix it," he wasn't going to eat there. His annoyed wife then asks the counter girl to cancel their whole order. The girl then doesn't know how to refund their order and has to call the owner. We're at about 25 minutes wait time for me now. The girl is on the phone and I see the cook put what appears to be my order in the little kitchen pass-through window. On a tray, not packaged to-go. The counter girl is talking on the phone, not noticing that my order is sitting in the window. After about three more minutes of standing with my head down at the counter, I have to ask her if it's mine and then ask to get it packaged to go. Was the dog good? Not bad but it would have been nice if I could have eaten it at a table instead of 90 minutes later in my car after my meeting. Were the fries good? No. Completely unsalted and soggy after my meeting. I hate to be "that guy" who complains about food not being good b/c it sat out, but the only reason it sat out was that this place was so hilariously inefficient. To their credit, the cook and the clerk were the only employees there and they were somewhat busy. A group of four guys had just ordered a pretty good amount of food right before I came in, but still, the place had probably eight customers in it total and you would have thought there were 100 pending orders. I also cut them slack b/c I'm sure issuing refunds on a cancelled order is not an everyday occurrence, but come on, teach your employees how to do simple tasks. I'll happily give them another run next time I'm in the area and will happily update this review. But if you're looking for a quick lunch stop at a place that should be very quick, you may be sorely mistaken. read more

I've been a regular here for o lil over a yr! And today is the VERY first time I've experienced extremely poor customer and was discriminated against! The young lady that look my order was very rude, displayed very poor disposition and was very unprofessional! I ordered a regular maxwell polish. Everyone that order AFTER me received their food and when I asked about my order she says well it takes the onions longer to cook (never had that issue before)! Ok so I FINALLY get my food and it's HORRIBLE! Fries cold as heck and just nasty!!! When I brought to the rude young lady's attention that took my order she says "My cook is doing the very best she can!" And walks off back into the kitchen! Ugh!!! Just called and asked for a supervisor, manager, or owner and the same rude young lady that took my order answered the phone' of course no one was available! Smh read more

I just enjoyed a shrimp dinner from Rubens tonight. I have never tried it and was very happy I did! The staff was friendly and also gave my choice high recommendations. I have been going here for at least 25 years. Always has been a 5* rating for excellent food. The last two times I came here my order was not correct. The cold ham sub with swiss didn't have swiss it had american the first time. Tonight it had no cheese at all. However, this is a minor mistake. Food is excellent and it is a must try!!! read more

We stopped here on a whim, and it was worth it. Loved the atmosphere and the food. I bought a Ruben, while my friend got the 21 shrimp and fries. There was definitely more than 21 shrimp and the fry order was huge. I would have liked more sour krout on my Ruben, but that could be personal preference. read more

It's a great little joint if you're looking to get a sausage/dog of some type. The rest of the menu is frozen or not authentic. If you order a gyro you'll be disappointed because it doesn't come off a spit, but one of those kits of thinly sliced meat you can buy at any grocery store. The restaurant appears surface clean, but my daughter noticed years worth of gum underneath the table we were sitting at. We're local and only stop in a few times a year due to these issues. Sadly, I think if this business didn't have the attractive clown out front or be in such close proximity to our local high school and the highway, it would probably go under. The food they put out just isn't good enough quality for it to stand up on its own. Thankfully they have a great location just off the highway, the clown attracts tourists, and the high school students stop in before practices. On 7-30-2012 i went in after driving for a while and decided that this place was much better than those fast food restaurants. Me and one other guy were there at approx. 8pm and as soon as i walked in the beautiful lady at the counter took my order which was a double w/cheese and everything on it, Large fries and a pizza puff. while i was waiting this young lady was doing non-stop cleaning and having a great convo with her and the other client. The service was wonderful,quick and the did not mess up the orders one time.Anyway i had already been in there many times before and never disapointed ever! I took the food home and just ate it with the biggest smile on my face because it was great and delicious and was thinking that young girl made my day also because you rarely see courtesy like hers in any place anymore. I will be back and more often too to try the entire menu if possible and to also be treated as a real customer not just a number...Thank you very much ladies see you soon. read more
