I concur with all the positive reviews. I have eaten at this place four times now, and I haven't been disappointed yet. Their sushi rolls are fresh and tasty...far better than most places you're going to find in Indiana, much less dinky-poop Columbus. I've also had their yellow curry chicken which was quite good (the curry was not too watery and not too thick...perfect). I have to say, I have had a hard time tracking down good places to eat while living in Columbus but this was one of the few I managed to find. Word of advice: the lunch time menu is significantly cheaper though the dinner menu has much more variety (especially if you want special sushi rolls). It's worth it to try this place out. read more

Finding a Sushi place in Columbus in its entirety is a surprising idea! But anyways, a decent sushi place. Staff is super friendly and the chef who makes the Sushi is very friendly and engaging as well. The fishes seemed to be fresh and the rolls were pretty decent. So if you are in Columbus and want to have decent sushi I think this could be your place. We also had soup to start off and it was pretty good as well. Happy sushi eating! read more

The service was poor. Couldn't get a waiter and then had 3 different people help us. The primary one didn't speak English that well. A lot of folks around us got the wrong food & we did too. Ru-yi - a great place for sushi. The best in Columbus...by far. We get their Chinese cuisine occasionally as well. Always happy with their service. The only hiccup is their carry-out - twice we've had a couple of items missing from our order (egg rolls, etc.) Not a HUGE deal - but they could work on that aspect. Otherwise, GREAT! read more

I had high hopes from the menu they distributed through the mail, but was unimpressed. Went at 1:30pm for the 3 roll lunch special. We arrived and only 2 other parties were in the restaurant, but the hostess made us stand and wait at the doorway while she finished sweeping up the floor by the hostess stand... then seated us at a table right behind the only occupied table in the section....I hate when they do that! So, I requested to be seated one table down...to give them AND us seating space and she looked at me very confused. We ordered, the waitress didn't write anything down, which scared me...but our order was correct...so no complaints there. The miso soup was just a packet mixed with hot water, definitely not made at the restaurant. I picked the tuna/avocado roll, the spicy tuna roll, and the shrimp/asparagus rolls. My husband got the yellowtail roll, spicy tuna and California rolls. He said it was the worst Cali roll he had ever had...I tasted it and agreed...it was almost rotten cucumber...not good. The spicy tuna was the minced tuna mixed with sauce..not a big deal, but definitely lower quality than other area sushi options. I had to ask twice for a water refill when my glass was completely empty, not because I'm a camel, but because the water came in a small stem glass-not a regular soda/drink glass. :) All in all, completely unimpressed with quality of food and competency of staff. Would consider trying once more, but with at least two better sushi options in Columbus, probably not. read more

I ordered the beef pad thai for carryout as a walk-in customer. I was very hungry, but found it challenging to finish the whole bowl due to a heaping portion. However, I kept piling it in due to how great it tasted. The beef was tender and noodles perfect. I'm getting hungry just talking about it! Will definitely be back to try the sushi! read more

Ordered the scallops from their outdated, hard to read menu. Very disappointed in the tiny and scant bay scallops I got. Most people expect sea scallops. Customer should be informed up front. Then , to add insult to injury, I got food poisoning. Called restaurant next day when I could get off bathroom floor. Someone wrote down details and said expect call from manager . Call never came. Guess they got their money. Had heard bad things before about mgmt. No more take out from this place ever. read more

We were looking for a place to have lunch off I-65 yesterday and happened upon this place totally by accident. We had the edamame and steamed dumplings which were made with spinach, so they were green,and served in a small bamboo steamer. Delish! I had sesame chicken, and our son had a sushi roll. Hubby had some kind of Thai dish. Huge portions so you'll have leftovers for dinner, and everything tasted good. Lunch for 4 around $65 including hot tea. read more

Ru Yi is your typical Chinese/Japanese restaurant. Food is standard. I've only had one roll: spicy tuna. Unfortunately, the roll filling is more of a mixture of bread crumbs and spicy sauce than anything else. Hardly appetizing but at the same time I don't expect to find great sushi in a place like Columbus. My favorite dish here is the chicken in garlic sauce or general Tso's. I come to this place for a quick meal or take out, nothing more. read more

Nothing they serve is particularly good. The curry is extremely bland, even when I ask for extra seasoning. The sushi is mushy and sloppily assembled, and sushi with fried elements have way too much breading and thus grease. A couple of the teriyaki dishes are serviceable, but nothing sets them apart from a frozen dinner of the same ingredients. read more

The general Tso Chicken was good. The sweet and sour shrimp, the shrimp was way too small. Service was good.

Great food. Recommend the Singapore mai fun for sure. The service is great and the takeout bowls are awesome. They give you Tupperware as takeout. Reusable and microwave friendly. I would rather use it than standard Tupperware. read more

I stopped in for Crab Rangoon and Chicken Pad Thai and they weren't great. Crab Rangoon had no flavor of crab, mostly tasted like mayo and the oil it was fried in was a little stale. Pad Thai was unlike any I've had before. I've been to Thailand and I don't expect for the Pad Thai in Columbus to be authentic but this was bad. I'm not sure why it was so different than any I've had overseas or in the US but it was like they reinvented it. The sauce almost tasted like ketchup. Very odd. Everything else here may be great but I wouldn't recommend these 2 items. read more

My favorite asian restaurant in Columbus. Their sushi is fresh and delicious every day... which is really a pleasant surprise because that's not even the case in the Indianapolis restaurants. The food is good, staff is courteous, the manager is personable, and the prices are reasonable. We have had bad food, slow service on a couple of visits to this Columbus restaurant. Well we foolishly decided to give them another try because of their convenient location. Called in for a carry out order and was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. Upon arrival to the restaurant 1/2 of our order was ready but were informed that the balance of the order would be ready in another 15 minutes. After the fifteen minutes, we were told that it would be another 40 minutes before the order would be ready. At this point we decided to just take the portion that was ready and cancel the rest of the order. MISTAKE, we should have cancelled the entire order. The portion we received was missing ingredients , lacking flavor, and extremely poor quality. I could maybe excuse this situation if they were extremely busy, but they weren't. My advise is to save your money and your time and avoid this poorly managed restaurant. After 3 attempts we will never visit this restaurant again. read more

I ordered the chicken teriyaki w/ brown rice and miso soup. I did not enjoy the meal. I asked for wonton soup instead, this was ok. We told the manager I did not like it, he shrugged it off. I did receive a discount of 1.57. I paid the entire cost of meal I did like or eat. read more

I found myself in Columbus, starving and looking for dinner at 9:30 on a weeknight (damn you, delayed flights!). My choices were the typical fast foods joints or chain restaurants, until I spotted Ru Yi. I walked in expecting to be turned away, since it was so close to their closing time, but I was able to place an order to go without a problem. I couldn't order sushi because they were already cleaning everything up, so I got the wonton soup and chicken pad thai for around $11 total, a steal for someone used to Northeast prices. The soup's broth was a little strong but had good flavor, and the wontons were juicy. My only issue was that they were a bit doughy and hard to cut into pieces with just my wimpy plastic spoon. The pad thai was HUGE, easily enough for 3 meals for me and I hated having to throw out my leftovers when I left the next day. Despite the size, I would say about 90% of the bowl was noodles, and I would have loved more chicken, nuts and other toppings. Overall, though, the food was pretty darn tasty and way better than I usually get on a business trip. I probably won't be returning to Columbus any time soon, but if I was, I wouldn't hesitate to go here again. read more

I can't see how this restaurant gets bad reviews. It is by far the best Chinese restaurant in Columbus. I've been here four times and gotten a different entree and sushi roll each time. No problems at all with anything. The service was prompt, the food is always excellent. As far as complaining about how the place is decorated come on people. read more

"Oriental", the Japanese is good, the Chinese is ok. Avoid the Thai. Also, if you are getting take out, check all items before leaving the store. We live 10 miles out in the country and a couple weeks ago my wife and I ordered a meal. She ordered tempura shrimp and asked the checkout if there was dipping sauce. "Yes". At home it was discovered that the correct answer was "No". Not wanting to make a special trip into town we let it slide. Two days ago, with the kids visiting, my wife was the victim again. Cashew shrimp became cashew chicken, a dish she does not eat. (My Thai crispy fish was nourishing, but tasteless). Today she stopped by, receipt in hand to get a refund. She was told that was not possible because she had not called that evening while our kids and grandkids were there. She was told they could cook her a meal (in the middle of the afternoon while she was doing errands) or she could be sure to call promptly next time. She assured him there would be no next time. We have eaten there for years. I feel the quality of food has declined in recent years. Failure to take responsibility for mistakes is unacceptable. read more
