We don't live in Columbus but Olesya's has crept its way onto our short list of go-to road trip restaurants. Louisville's restaurant scene is vibrant and broad but it falls short on eastern European cuisines -- for whatever reason it never had the influx of immigrants that you see in cities like Chicago or Cleveland. And Olesya's seems to make some beautiful old world recipes at very affordable prices, serving it up with a casual atmosphere. I have a hard time not getting dumplings if they are on offer, but we decided to forego the dumplings on our most recent visit only because we knew that we'd also be happy with anything stewed. The stroganoff is great, as are the cabbage rolls, and we really enjoyed eating the vegetable stew alongside the pickle plate. One of these days we'll actually try one of the desserts but in the meantime I'm happy just to load up on items from the main menu. And maybe take home some frozen dumplings while I'm at it. read more

We just found on Yelp and decided to try since we were in the area. Really authentic food that was cooked to order and delish! Our server was amazing and sat down and explained the menu and gave great recommendations. We tried the borscht and it was so flavorful. We shred the chicken stroganoff and cabbage rolls. Wow, hidden gem! Stopped in Columbus for one night during a road trip and was curious about trying Ukrainian food. This dinner was EXCELLENT! I saw several posts about Olesya's Kitchen on Chowdown and thought I would try them out. They exceeded our expectations with both Service and deliciousness!! I had the beef zrazy with cheese and herbs (kind of like meatballs) with Mashed potatoes and Ukrainian gravy. My wife had the salmon creme sauce wrapped in bacon. Both were cooked to perfection. While we were dining there was large slices of honey cake staring at us from the cooler, so of course we had to take some home. A lunch for two may run to 60-70 bucks , but remember, you get what you pay for. Well worth an extra 10 or 20 dollars over average lunch fare. I added the pepper !! read more

This is a must visit place! Indiana's only Ukrainian restaurant is tucked away in Columbus, Indiana in a small but cozy strip mall storefront. Inside, there are a few tables you can sit at or you can order take out. Water is served with an orange infusion - so good! All the food is prepared in house and to-order. I had the potato dumplings and the Ukrainian National Clay Pot, which was a beautiful stew topped with a giant piece of bread. The flavors were just fantastic- the dumplings came with dill and sour cream to dip them in. The stew was pork, potatoes, carrots and hearty seasonings - comfort food at its finest. Piping hot too. I had plenty of leftovers for the next day! I absolutely recommend that you visit this gem about 35 - 40 minutes south of Indianapolis. read more

Visiting Columbus, IN, and we read about this Ukrainian restaurant, so we had lunch there. We tried the mushroom soup. It was flavorful but I didn't like the oil floating on top. Another diner got the borsch and that was really, really delicious. Both soups were served with a slice of a hearty bread. We tried 2 different dumplings, called vereunikas, maybe? Both were good. We had beef and also. potato. )They were out of both chicken and mushroom dumplings.) Both are served with sour cream and the beef had a smoky flavor that is to smoked paprika. Both yummy. One diner had the goulash on mashed potatoes and another had stroganoff on buckwheat groats. I tasted the goulash and it was very tasty; it had a sweetness to it along with a spicy taste. I didn't try the stroganoff but the diner who'd ordered it said it was good. We ordered the signature cabbage salad. We all thought it needed salt and that with the salt it was a nice crunchy salad. The place is small but cozy and clean. We never saw anyone but the nice young man who took our orders, served us and acted as cashier. Apparently they do a pretty good take out business. This was unique and tasty food. Our group of 5 enjoyed our meals and felt this place deserves more attention. Enjoy! read more

In an unassuming mini strip mall, in Columbus, Indiana, sits a restaurant of Ukrainian delights. We started with the Potato & Pork Vareniki (aka dumplings). Very tasty! We shared our entrees, the Ukrainian National Clay Pot and Beef Stroganoff (Ukrainian "Gulyash"). They were both so good, but if I had to pick a winner it was the Ukrainian National Clay Pot! My sister read the reviews and decided we had to go! Oleysa's Kitchen was like eating at the home of your good friend who happens to also be an amazing cook. We tried a bunch of different dishes, from the pickles and cabbage salad as appetizers, the mushroom soup and borsch, beef dumplings and potato dumplings, and goulash. Everything was delicious, especially the dumplings - yum!! I wish I had room for the blueberry scone because it looked truly amazing! Our server was super nice and as helpful as could be. I wish I could give Olesya's 6 stars! I was fortunate to see their stand at the Columbus Farmer's Market. I've had Olesya's on my list of restaurants to visit in Columbus. I jumped at the chance to try some of their Ukrainian street food at the Market. The young clerk was friendly and recommended that I try the pork filled pastry called cheburekie. I also grabbed a container of their cabbage salad because it looked refreshing. Let me tell you, the cheburecki was incredible. The crusty outside melted in my mouth and the pork filling was juicy and flavorful. The salad was a blend of vegetables with a dill dressing. The food was amazingly good. They take cards! My mother and I were looking for a cool place to have a nice lunch. We looked to Yelp for recommendations and were guided to Olesya's. Food was amazing! My mom had Clay Pot Stew with a popover style crust backed on top of it. I had Cabbage Rolls. We shared some dumplings and went home with leftovers as portion sizes were pretty large. Highlight was the complimentary table side sorbet. Chef came to table and began whisking raspberries and apples while pouring liquid nitrogen (I think) over the puree. She scooped three dollops per plate then topped with homemade whipped cream from what looked like a pressurized CO2 canister. Some of the best sorbet we have ever eaten. Nice presentation was a plus. This spot was definitely worth the wait! I've had it on a bucket list for quite some time and finally got a chance to visit this morning. Now I want to tell everyone! For starters, the staff was very friendly and eager to answer any questions as we explored the menu. We opted for an array of dishes so that we could sample as much as possible. The meal kicked off with complementary potato bread with a parsley and dill dipping sauce. We followed that by chicken, pelmeni dumplings, the Ukrainian national clay pot dish filled with potatoes, carrots, and pork and topped with a fresh bread, cabbage salad, the appetizer Pickle assortment, and, of course, borscht. All were fabulous, and a great balance between hearty dishes and refreshing vegetables. It was hard to pick a favorite dish because they all complemented one another so well. The space is also super cute inside with floral decor in lots of sunshine. Next time, I will have to order the honey cake dessert. It's hard to come by so I was excited to see it on the menu. What a treasure to have this Ukrainian eatery located not too far from Indianapolis. I'm not sure if there are any other located within the state of Indiana? I was looking forward to this place after finding it on Yelp. My wife and I love ethnic food and hadn't had Ukrainian fare. We had the chicken dumplings and the potato and pork dumplings. They were good, but not great. No side dishes come with the meal, and it was just the dumplings. The blueberry scone with icing we grabbed on the way out was highly caloric and really good. It had a hint of lemon in it. I could eat a box of them. Service was somewhat slow, the bussing and the waiting on the tables seemed unorganized. When the food was served we had to ask for silverware-they'd forgotten to bring it-which was brought promptly when we asked. Note to the proprietor: Employees should not serve beverages by grabbing it by the rim. Their fingers come into contact with the surface the customer's mouths touch. It's unsanitary. It's a common thing in the restaurant industry apparently, but it isn't something to dismiss. When I paid cash for the scone the woman at the counter took my money and told me I could get my change out of the tip jar. I had never had that happen before. I let them keep the change. The bathroom door needs repair. My wife had to bump it closed with her hip to get it to close and lock. Visited last weekend and it was my (and my family's) first time having Ukrainian food. We very pleasantly surprised! Environment was very cozy and our server was friendly and chipper. Cabbage rolls, dumpling, rice-based entree, and meatball lunch specials were all fantastic. We also tried the desserts - very unique but probably would not order those again. Extremely sad to hear the recent news about the founder's passing. We did not meet her when we came in but it's clear that she left a mark on the community. We saw this spot and have never had Ukrainian Cuisine so we checked it out. There's some polish influence in the dishes but everything was incredible. Best cabbage rolls I've ever had. This dish with the bread over the pork and potatoes was so dang good. Not pictured is the honey cake slice. It was a toss up between it and the scone. My wife owns a bakery and makes some of the tastiest desserts I've ever had but this honey cake hit hard. It was so darn good! I'm a fan, I'll definitely come back. This was my first Ukrainian food experience and it definitely won't be my last. When we went, we were the only people at the restaurant and Olesya took such good care of us. On our trip to Nashville we stopped at Olesya's for Lunch. We had the Stuffed cabbage rolls and Borscht. For dessert we had Crepes w sweet cottage cheese and berries. Chocolate sauce, whipped cream, fresh blueberries and strawberries accompany the warm Crepes. The service is very good. All our food was delicious! The borscht was unusual and unusually good! Tried something different while visiting From Florida. All in all, this place was nice. Only a few draw backs. I know it's more of an american thing, but I do like ice in my water. They served canned sodas and were out of the pork and potato dumplings, other than that, the food was delicious. I had the cabbage rolls, excellent. Another in my party has the pickle salad and veggies rice, yummy. Another had the fried chicken with cabbage salad, the chicken was dry and tough around the edges, but the cabbage salad was great.
