Ru Sans was our first stop on our food tour in Dillworth and it set the stage for the rest of our tour. We went around lunch time and it was really busy but the staff and service were great. We got a bunch of rolls to split, chicken fried rice, a few sake cocktails and some appetizers. The lunch prices were really surprising in the best way. Cocktails were $5-$8, the rolls were massive and priced around $10-$13 which is such a deal considering what you get. The chicken fried rice was some of the best I've had. Normally that dish lacks flavor but there's had a strong black pepper flavor which was a really nice treat! The rolls were also delicious but the atomic salmon was my favorite due to the spicy sauces and sliced jalapeño on top. Second favorite would be the spicy tuna roll which includes rare tuna all tucked into a thin crispy batter - YUM! Can't wait to go back! read more

I'm still very new to the world of sushi... but my friends picked Ru San's for a late lunch today. The dining experience took longer than expected, but our waiter had kindly apologized and explained they were short staff. However, that didn't stop our waiter from having some fun with our table... he even "confiscated" my fork so that I could learn to eat with chopsticks!! Haha!! We all got different rolls so I tried various new items (while my friends were staring and waiting for my reactions lol!) My favorite was the sweet potato roll with shrimp, but I also surprisingly enjoyed the summer mango roll with its spicy kick! This location was near Park road, offered plenty of parking, as well as both indoor and outdoor seating. Again, although I'm still new to sushi.. Popped in here with a group of 8 on Saturday afternoon. I am not sure what that place use to be but it's very dark in there and the seating setup is kind of weird. Thankfully the food was great. We got a mix between sushi and hibachi plates. The fried rice was so soo good although some of the chicken was dry but still really good. The sushi hands down was the best. Definitely the quality and quantity measures up. I'm taking off a star because our waitress was not friendly, she was very matter of fact and not informative at all. Heads up they no longer do the all you can eat sushi and they charge for refills on lemonade and ginger ale however you wouldn't know until you get your bill. At least that's what happen to us and when we called the waitress out about it she just shrug her shoulders. I think her name was OLGA. I would return but would request another waitress. read more

Ru Sans is forever one of my fav places to get sushi. The vibes are always nice & they have tons of outside seating too. The staff is also incredible -- the most recent visit I had Toto as a server. He was so friendly and had a great sense of humor, he really added to our experience!! Great portions and great prices! Went there last Father's Day. Sat at the bar, and the kitchen staff is very fun! Didn't review until later so the server wouldn't get in trouble. The server was shy and only took orders from my dad LOL. She walked away so fast both times we couldn't flag her down. Order: edamame, salmon skin roll, ru san's roll This was my first time trying edamame. I've never cared for it in the past but today I wanted something new. Let me tell you, the adult palate is very different. I like things now that I never did before. Safe to say I enjoyed the edamame. However the two sushi roll I ordered were not as enjoyable. Busy place and larger that it looks inside. Came on a Wed night by myself and sat at the sushi bar. There is outdoor dining as well so there are varied seating options. They had some local brews available - which is a plus as many sushi places have the typical stuff. I went with the California Sunset Roll ($12) and two orders of the Sake (Salmon) Nigiri ($6) and it was decent and fairly priced. Service at the bar from Kang was prompt and friendly. We were told by a couple of our friends that Ru-Sans has the best fried rice but until they took us there, we had no idea how right they were. At first glance it looks like a normal chicken fried rice but after the first bite - just wow. We've never tasted a more flavorful, peppery bite of fried rice EVER. It was so good we are STILL thinking about this bite, along with the other rolls we got. I am normally a fried roll kind of girl, but I got a regular roll while visiting Ru-San's and honestly, I didn't miss the fried element at all. Who would when you have so many scrumptious components dancing around on your palate? My husband got his normal assortment of of Tokusen sushi while I had the "Lady in Red" roll consisting of flash fried eel, masago, cream cheese, spicy tuna, bbq eel, avocado, jalapeño, kabayaki, and sriracha. We also ordered the crispy tuna roll for the table which was made up of fresh tuna wrapped in seaweed then lightly katsu fried and topped with sriracha Mayo, ponzu sauce, and green onion. The cucumber served under each roll definitely kept it light and fresh. The lemon drop "saketini" I got was also super refreshing with our meal. If we can't have a Ru-Sans in the Triad, it's definitely a place we make a regular pit stop to when we are in the Charlotte area! read more

This review is pretty much solely based on being served sushi for 3 people on one plate. I'm really still shocked by this. I went to Ru Sans with 2 friends of mine last night and Ru Sans is usually a good experience for me. I've been here many times over the past decade I've lived in Charlotte. Our server was new (I'm guessing) and seemed a little clueless about a lot of things we asked. I specifically ordered the crispy octopus, which is on their menu with a photo and description, plain as day. Our server said they don't have octopus at all. I was literally staring at raw octopus in the sushi bar the entire time sitting at our table. So, idk if she just didn't know the menu or didn't care because she didn't even go and ask about it. She just looked at me like I had three heads when I ordered it. Weird. The biggest kicker and disappointment was when our sushi rolls came out all on one big plate. This is wrong for so many reasons: -what if someone in our group had a food allergy? -since when does any restaurant serve food for 3 people on one plate, unless it's a family style type deal? -why didn't we get smaller plates to eat with? -how did they think it would be easy to move gigantic sushi rolls topped with all kinds of things from one big plate to one smaller plate without everything falling apart? It was A MESS. -what if we don't want to share one plate for three people? We had to ask for small plates and forks because we couldn't even use the chopsticks since the sushi had to travel so far from the large plate to our mouth. I was tempted to ask for a spatula to safely scoop my rolls onto my plate so I could reach it without it falling apart. The sushi was falling apart, every single bite! I just don't understand why our food was served this way and it really bothered me. I ordered the crap dip and tootsie roll. My food was delicious, which infuriates me even more. Where do I begin? I brought my husband here for his birthday. Sushi is his favorite! We ordered crispy calamari and it was so overcooked it was worse than chewing on rubber bands. His sashimi got completely forgotten. The waitress "David L" has the audacity to ask my husband if he still "needed" it after he mentioned it never came to the table. Had such a delicious lunch today. Started off with the Tuna Symphony and it hands down is delicious. Flavors are great and tuna is so fresh. Then we got some vegetable fried rice and this is the best rice I have ever had. The veggies were so fresh and so flavorful. The rolls we got were the Dynamite Roll, Kimchi Roll, Crispy Tuna Roll, Firecracker Roll and Atomic. Service was great and our waiter was very friendly. And checked on us throughout the meal. Our 30 minute wait on a Friday night turned into an hour wait for 6 people. We were told several times just a few more minutes and then the hostess would get missing. Once we got to the table it took the server a while to come to our table. The restaurant was very cold and we were right under a vent. The food was good as usual and the portions were on point. The menu has seen a change but you can always find your favorites tucked away somewhere on the menu. Some of my favorites are the Exotic roll, Crunchy Tuna Roll and Chicken Fried Rice. I went on a Friday night around 9pm it was pretty busy. We had to wait about 15-20 minutes to be seated. I ordered some fried Brussel sprouts as an appetizer they were so tasty and came with this really good sauce. As my meal I got some Veggie noodles they were ok they gave me Way more veggies than noodles and it could have used more seasoning to be honest. My husband got sushi that's why we came I don't eat sushi but he said it was really good. The waiter was attentive and a few others stopped and asked were we ok or needed anything. I have been to ru sans (take out only) a couple times now. It is the freshest sushi I have had in Charlotte! They have so many rolls it can be overwhelming, but I can honestly say each roll I have had, I would 100% recommend. Tonight I ordered a rainbow roll to go, just an after work pick me up. It was ready in 15 minutes. There was a good assortment of fish and it was fantastic. You know the fish is fresh when it nearly melts in your mouth. I've also had the spider roll from here and the soft shell grab was fried to perfection. I forget the names of the other rolls I ordered in the past, but all of them were specialty, and matched the item description perfectly. Very reasonably priced here. The portions are very generous, from the appetizers to the rolls. My boyfriend doesn't typically like seafood and he ordered the sweet potato caterpillar maki and the kimchi roll, with an order of seared beef nigiri. They were all delicious! I was very impressed at the flavor and tenderness of the seared beef. That was a new one for me as far as sushi experiences go and I'll be ordering my own next time. This place was really good! Outdoor dining is set up really well with large heaters so you don't get too cold. Service is friendly and pretty fast. The rolls are really fresh and the combinations are inventive and taste really great. We ordered the aged dashi which is fried tofu in a flavored dashi broth. It was really tasty, subtle and enjoyable. The sushi and sashimi was really fresh. I would highly recommend if you are in Charlotte. I was looking forward to this restaurant for a long time, we have one near us but I was traveling for work and decided to give it a go. While the food tasted good, it was a little too close to room temp.. I trusted the name of the restaurant so I ate it anyways and was fine, but if temp and food safety is super top of mind I would be cautious. The atmosphere is very dim and dark, if the lights were on I'd only hope it was super clean for a restaurant.
