I'm surprised Rtistic Salon doesn't have more reviews! I just had my haircut this morning and I have been admiring my haircut all day since. My fiancee even complimented me several times. It has been the best haircut I've had in the past three years. Since losing contact with my hairstylist three years ago, the haircuts I've had turned out to be mostly okay but nothing like I wanted. Today was the first time in a long time that I was satisfied and felt it was worth it (though it wasn't all that much, it's about how much all the other trendy salons charge for women). Brad was my stylist and my appointment was at 9:00 am. I know, ridiculous of me, but I had a day full of errands. I came in a few minutes early but Brad was already in and preparing for me. He truly listened to what I wanted and definitely got my idea. I didn't even had to show him a picture of what I wanted and I came prepared with a handful of pictures. He also asked if he could cut a few inches off my waist length hair, which was nice because I had someone cut 6 inches off without asking me first. He explained that cutting off the two or three inches off will help shape the haircut I wanted and I easily went with it because what he suggested was reasonable. I thought why not, it's summer and my long hair is driving me insane with its heat retaining properties (I kid you not!) and it's been getting tangled a lot lately. Brad was very personable and tolerated my chatty mouth so early in the morning. I normally don't talk that much during the day but I haven't had coffee yet and I was still half asleep. It was just me and him for a while until one of the other employees came in. My fiancee originally referred me to Brad for haircuts. He found this salon through yelp and gave it a shot about two weeks ago. My fiancee loves his haircut and I know he'd bug the crap out of me if I don't go to the same hairstylist. My fiancee and Brad definitely hit it off. My fiancee also said that Brad and the other hairstylists only come in when they have appointments set up. Otherwise, they wouldn't come in. So make sure to make an appointment instead of just walking in. My fiancee said it was just him and Brad as well on a weeknight. The place was clean, trendy looking, and I liked that it wasn't crowded although I thought it was a little stuffy in there (could be better if they turned on the AC). Overall, I would recommend this place, Brad specifically, because both my fiancee and I definitely will be coming back. I've known of Rtistic salon for years, I've known the owner Doug for quite sometime but since moving to LA County it's been very difficult to get down here for a haircut, also, I've been in a hair extension relationship for about 7 years. Funny thing is I've always found a stylist in LA thinking it's closer and more convenient only to discover no one knows how cut my hair, not sure if it's because my hair is tricky or they're not familiar with my texture. I always end up with a heavily layered bob that I just can't stand and I end up with a full head of extensions again. Two years ago I went to LA to get a haircut and it was the last time I told myself no more haircuts ever. Well the haircut and years of extensions totally wrecked my hair and I ended up with a crazy mullet. I go on a little family staycationing San Clemente this week and boom! Salon is still thriving, go on to their website and bam! I am able to get an appt with the owner Doug the next morning, I have wavy hair and I have been wearing it natural because it hides the mullet well. It literally took less than 5 mins to realize he knows exactly what I want. He gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had today, he curated this haircut to everything I wanted, I left with it styled natural and AMAZING !!!! I came home and blew it out just out of curiosity and ITS FREAKING AMAZING!!! In the last 4 years i have not liked my hair without a bunch of extensions. I was very hesitant and overall reluctant to try this place out and now that I have I can't believe it took so long to do so. I was only hesitant to give this place a shot because I have always been under the wrong impression that a salon was a place where woman/girls go to get their hair cuts and hair colored. I was very wrong about this. There is plenty of male clients that come through the Rtistic Salon door. The staff is very competent, friendly and professional. They truly understand their craft. Nice Salon's with talented people usually cater to & are filled with women. While I enjoy the eye candy, I always feel a bit out of place. The many Barber shops in San Clemente are either filled with Marines (all nice guys but hard for me to relate too) or one of two kinds of Barbers/Stylist: A) Old guys that just use the buzzer, charge you 2 bucks, call you chuck & leave you looking like road kill. B) Women, some old some not, usually big breasts, too much makeup & smell of cigarette. They are friendly & do an ok job. Sometimes they wedge your nose between their jugs as they lean in to cut that (apparently) difficult to reach spot - (this can be a good thing or a very bad thing, if you know what I mean). THEN I found Vince @ RTISTIC: The best of both worlds! Talented guys, dedicated to what they do best. Cool place, small, modern, great music, good reading material if you have to wait & I always come out looking my best! All the guys are straight (not that I'm prejudice or anything, its just cool to be around like minded bro's). Vince is my guy & will never do you wrong; but from what I've seen, anyone of the hair dudes will do a killer job on your locks. They make you feel welcome without a sense self consciousness. Brad is a genius working with short hair. My friend Morgan always had the cutest short hair so when i was ready to go short again I asked who her stylist was. She told me Brad @ Rtistic and I called for an appointment that day. I was going out of town for the weekend, but he said he could fit me in that day if i didn't mind a later appointment. I got a short, pixie-like cut done today, different and shorter than what I've gotten for the last 8 years, and I can wholeheartedly say that his work has surpassed even my expectations after all these years. I can't imagine anyone else touching my hair! All of the stylists and colorists go above and beyond the ideas of great work and redefine it in a whole new light. After a recommendation by my good friend (who's a professional hairstylist in NYC), I've gotten my hair cut by the owner Doug twice, and have been very happy with the results. Today I had bangs cut for the first time in years, and Doug made sure to cut them just the way I wanted. He asked a lot of questions beforehand and listened to what I was looking to get. They used very light, natural-smelling products in my hair. The salon is small, but very clean and I appreciate the attention to detail. Even though I live in Trabuco Canyon, I don't mind driving out of my way for a great cut here. I've been burned one too many times and paid a lot for bad haircuts in O.C. I am considering getting my hair colored next time with Jen as well. I trust that they know what they're doing 100% and look forward to my next visit! read more

I would strongly advise against visiting this salon. I had my cut done from the owner of the salon Douglas and I asked him to give me a funky haircut that would grow out nicely and I was given a haircut that looked hacked with pieces missing from the sides. Needless to say I was very disappointed! My colour was with Jenn who was equally disappointing, I wanted to brighten up my subtle highlights but the result was not as I hoped, in fact my hair looked no different. Jenn actually left before Douglas had finished cutting my hair and said if I needed anymore colour to just come back which was strange I thought, why would I or should I need to come back if she had done what we talked about? I did indeed go back to the salon and the she put mor colour in my hair but it was yellowy and brassy I still wasnt happy with the look. at this point I decided once bitten twice shy and decided not to go back again. This salon has high end pricey when it is a tiny dingy little salon in a beach town, I think this was one of the most expensive hair cut & colour I have ever had and actually turned out to be the worst, save your self some money & a couple of trips and go to the Bellagio in Irvine and ask for Shelly I just went there this weeeknd and I love my hair now :) read more

A very small and chic salon where everyone was uber friendly. Jennifer gave great color. If you want a haircut, you need to go to one of the guys. It's pretty easy to get in for an appointment in less than a week. This salon was a bit hard to find as El Camino Real starts over (N and S) and Del Mar. So if you can't find it, keep driving and the numbers start over. Parking is also available in the back. read more

Both me and my husband have gone and I am now in love with my hair, and my husband also got my stamp of approval... which I don't easily give out. It is a bit expensive, but so worth it. I wanted bangs, got a mullet. The "stylist" cut my hair so poorly - my bangs are uneven, haphazardly chopped, showing a clear lack of skill. The length varies from under an inch (!!) to two and half. Someone said that this particular stylist is a genius with short hair - not so much with shoulder length long layers. Very disappointing. It takes some talent to cut my thick wavy Italian hair and Doug's got it in spades. Lucky for me he believes that haircuts should look good even without blow drying. Never once did I end up with the dreaded "helmet head," you know... the morning-after do, where the salon styling wares off and and shorter layers bunch up around the top of your head that need serious taming before you can walk out the door. I've been here twice for a haircut with Douglas Parks and I can't say enough good things. I have textured hair with some natural wave/curl, and he knows how to cut it. That may not seem like a big deal but for women who have hair like mine, you 'know' it's a big deal and that a lot of stylists don't know how to do it. Brad has been cutting my hair since I moved to the area about three years ago. He's a talented artist. He can do my hair any which way he wants to and I'll be happy with it because he has better skills and more talent than anyone else that has cut my hair before him. I get compliments on my hair often. I hate to recommend them because then it's hard to get an appointment but they deserve a high-five for excellent service. Both Brad and Douglas have the expertise and flair of the very expensive Beverly Hills celebrity stylists but Rtistic Salon people have none of the snobbery nor the price of those salons. Still an excellent place to get a hair cut except that twice already I booked online, I show up the first time and there's no record of my appointment. Second time, I called first to confirm appointment and Doug had blocked off his schedule and my appointment was nowhere to be found. I work by appointments, too so I have to jump through hoops to get to my personal appointments and this has been very dissappointing as I send Douglas an email stating what had happened including what transpired in the conversation I had on the phone with one particular female who works there. She questioned my ability to use the online appointment schedule by saying that nobody else has had those issues. I haven't heard back from Doug and it's been several weeks. Brad no longer works there. Doug is a great stylist and a great decent human being. Too bad I'm getting this treatment after dropping $$$ over a six year span. read more

I had Bard cut my long hair when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and the chemo was going to leave me" bald so I wanted a really short cut and this was so hard for a "long haired all my life gal.
