Another place which does great beer on Burton Road! Huzzah!…read more I've been to Volta a couple of times now, once to check it out and have a drink, and once for a meal with the in-laws. They have a wide range of ales - three on cask (I believe) and a number of keg offerings, from continental lager to lovely hoppy pales. The decor is relaxed, vintage and classic, reminding me of a small underground continental bar. Their food menu is wonderful, lots of various nibbles/'small plates' and cheese boards to share. A special mention has to go to their pork belly, which was absolutely divine, and perfect to share so it doesn't become too overwhelming. The star of the show for me, though, was the hanger steak, which I had cooked rare. Insanely flavoursome and tender, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this was the best steak I've tried so far. My partner was a bit less impressed with his dexter steak, and both he and the father-in-law said that they wanted to come back again so they could get the hanger steak themselves. The staff are attentive, personable, and very knowledgeable about what they're serving. There's no reason for me not to give it full marks, so well done Volta! I think it's a marvellous addition to Burton Road, and judging by how busy it seems to be all the time, so do my neighbours.

I was therefore keen to go back but this time the changed menu wasn't nearly so packed with choices and we struggled a bit to select enough between the two of us. The padron peppers were nice, nice to see those outside Madrid. The chorizo was just fried chorizo. The monkfish goujons were quite good but the prawns my friend disliked and distrusted because of their fishy smell - I also didn't think they were that great. We loved the halloumi and fig though, and sweet potato fries were good although in a foodie place like this I would have expected maybe a more interesting dip. The lamb shawarma came with a super spicy harissa - always pleasing when heat is not compromised, but ultimately I think I could get as good in any Middle Eastern restaurant. It was a very sunny evening and the windows were wide open which would have been great to sit beside had it not been for the terrace full of people smoking right beside the window - unfortunately that gives me a headache after a while so I would advise to sit at the rear of the restaurant if it's a warm day if you have the same problem. Which is too bad as it effectively deprives you of the best window/terrace seats in favour of people who don't even have working taste buds. Cocktails I thought were lacklustre and expensive relative to the quality/price ratio of NQ offerings. We had a nice bottle of prosecco. I'd go back if the menu changes back to something I find more appealing, otherwise I wouldn't pay that much again for a fairly average dinner.

I'd forgotten that we had takeaway food from here before, but once it was suggested to me I…read moreremembered. So this time we got a mix of meatballs, falafel, moussaka and chicken souvlakia among four. The food arrived fairly quickly which impressed us, and had really tasty sides like salads (that included olives) tomato and yoghurt based dips as well as pita breads. I had the moussaka and salad and it was so flavourful and properly seasoned it was just prefect. As I was enjoying the food it struck me that to call this restaurant food would be to mis inform. Oh no, this was home - cooking at its best and way above restaurant standard. What I mean is if you set out to make the best moussaka with the best ingredients this is what you'd get. As it was takeaway we had a few fabulous beers by 7 brothers that they brewed from Kellogg's coco pops and Rice Krispies from cereals that would otherwise just be wasted; instead it becomes beer and the brewery waste given over free to farmers to feed pigs. The takeaway food we got here was about £10 a head so darn good value really for the quality and deliciousness. And as I thought about it, Chinese takeaway prices in particular have risen unjustifiably year on year with food quality taking a real nose dive so next time we'll think of this Greek long before over paying for rubbish food. So if you have a Chinese local takeaway, and you are paying near a fiver for a starter and seven quid for a main please become more discerning. If the food isn't top notch now start saying so as it's the only way to bring higher standards back or you'll be paying through the nose for rubbish.

Certainly not the prettiest establishment on the block, but sometimes you get the best food from tatty looking places. Although the restaurant was empty, it took a while for the waiter to come over to take our orders. I must point out, he was a lovely, lovely man and very endearing. We ordered our starters and meals and anxiously waited to tuck in. Slowly other folks started to trickle in, which made us feel confident that it was a good place, given the numerous options immediately surrounding it on Northenden. Oddly, it seemed people that came in after us were getting served before us. We chalked it up to the fact that ours was getting special attention in the kitchen. The starters of tahini & pita and the fried feta came out. I've never had fried feta before and imagined it would be glorious. Guess what? It tastes just like it sounds....hot feta. Super salty, same consistency of unfried feta, just hotter and not very nice. The tahini was fine. For the mains, I had the lamb kabob and hubs had Greek sausages (forget what they are called). The lamb kabob (insert heavy sigh). It was way over cooked, and strangely didn't taste of anything yet still tasted not very good, if that makes sense. I almost took hubby's eye out after trying to slide a piece off the stick with my fork, and it was as if it was stuck with glue..finally giving way and flying across the table into my darlings baby blues. There was rice and a giant pile of shredded lettuce along with some raw veg (I have no problem with raw veg at all so that was one part of the meal I enjoyed). Very bland though, and hubs grumbled that his was not nice either. The highlight of the night was the lovely waiter. I wish all serving staff had his warm, friendly and charming personality. It almost made up for the sub-par food. Almost.

The food here is always freshly prepared over a grill and the salad is the best I have ever had from a takeout/sit in café. The salad contains lots of different things and is always nicely presented. Whatever you order you get 'turkish' bread which is freshly rolled out and baked and is excellent. There are many items on the menu but I would recommend the mixed kofta or the lamb burger (served without the amazing salad etc.). I have also tried the chicken which is also very good. I also recommend the curry. This isn't anything like you'd get in Rusholme or the likes but more like a home style curry you'd make at home but this with the rice 'n' chickpeas is lovely. Seating area is large and this place is very clean. I would highly recommend. Delivery service has always been good whenever I've used it whilst at work.

Only came in as a guy from work eats here every week and I pass it on the way home. I would have sent my two lone skewers of meat back (and the guy did offer to change it) if I wasn't so I hungry, so I settled at them bringing me a naan and some salad to go with the kofta. The man who took our original order, I don't think his English and/or listening skills were that great as all he kept saying was 'kofta' even before our food arrived. Just make sure you see what they're writing down and clarify what you've ordered. My friend wasn't too impressed that they seemed to rush taking the order rather than paying attention to what we wanted. All in all though, I have to say their homemade spicy and mint/yoghurt sauces are blooming delicious and the kofta was still worth it, after a long day.

From the beginning of our experience in Rozafa to the end, we were very, very disappointed with the service. The service was poor. They barely came to our table. When I asked our server to explain the dish, he acted like he didn't understand me and put it down for my order. We ordered a first course of pita bread and hummus for 3, and we were given 2 slices of pita bread while other tables were given 6 (for two people, btw). Once our dinner came, we didn't see the server for another hour. Yes, we were at this restaurant for almost an hour and a half and most of it entailed waiting to be acknowledged. We didn't see this with the other tables, and it has lead us to believe that they targeted us as Americans. We did not show them disrespect. We asked questions, and we tried to be unassuming. Needless to say, but it is not high on my recommendations. Ohh...and the food was okay.
