I had brunch here recently with my husband and father-in-law and for a little diner in a small town it really exceeded my expectations. The food was excellent and so affordable!
The men ordered from the breakfast menu, and I ordered from the lunch menu.
I had the Warm Steak Salad ($11.99) and it was delicious. Even tastier than salads at froufrou restaurants for twice the price! It was a generous piece of steak, on top of a bed of spinach, with sauteed mushrooms, red onions, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, roasted potatoes, and goat cheese. I asked for the balsamic vinaigrette on the side, and it arrived as requested. Vegetables were fresh. The potatoes tasted to me like they were deep fried (in other words, delicious, lol). They were so crispy on the outside. I hope they really were roasted as I'm trying to cut down on deep fried foods, haha. The mushrooms were flavourful and added a nice chewy texture to the salad. My only minor complaint is that the steak was not as lean as I would have liked. It wasn't overly fatty, but had a few gristly bits. However, overall I really enjoyed my salad.
My husband and father-in-law both really enjoyed their meals. (Hungry Man Breakfast ($9.29) and Eggs Benedict ($9.59)). My father-in-law said the home fries were the best he's ever had. Coming from someone in his 80s who's eaten his fair share of home fries, I'd say this is a huge compliment.
I was super impressed that the fruit salad that came with the Eggs Benedict had a variety of fruits and yummy ones like strawberries, kiwi, pears, and even blackberries. Not just the usual yuckies like cantaloupe and honeydew (although there were a few pieces of those too), lol.
The place was packed when we arrived but cleared out as the afternoon went on. Service was efficient and attentive. My husband had coffee and they were constantly refilling it.
This restaurant is in a converted little house in the town of Richmond. They have a private parking lot, but it was full when we went and we had to park in the street.
This place reminds me of The Four Seasons Cookhouse in Ottawa. They serve simple comfort food. Nothing fancy or exotic, but done very well. They have healthier options and enough variety to probably please everyone. And at very affordable prices.
Great food, excellent value, good service, and cute environment. I love it! read more
