I picked up sweet-and-sour chicken lunch special. It was $10.90. Quite filling. The food was made fresh, and the rice was actually pretty good. Also came with an eggroll, very tiny, but packed with flavor and was made fresh. Definitely a place to check out. Inside it is kind of small. But nonetheless you can dine in. I most likely will be going back soon. read more

This place has me going on nom nom every time I get the pad thai from here. Ya dig what I'm saying? Victor, Layla, and Kent just don't get it. They don't know what they're talking about read more

Excellent variety of menu options, I've been satisfied every time. Highly recommend for a variety of Asian/East Asian options.

Volleyball tournament pulled us into uncharted territory, again. As always, Yelp helps find the best places to go. This was the case today. It is hidden inside a strip mall, that is a bit secluded. But, don't let that hold you back. This place is legit. Only thing, I'm not sure it is a traditional Thai place. It seems more like a Asian fission with Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese. I'm sure it may just be an interpretation, but I'm ok with them doing what they are doing. We had the vegetable ramen and the double cooked duck. The Ramen was a hearty portion chalked full of fresh veggies. The broth was well seasoned and went well with noodles. It was a solid portion. The double cooked duck was perfect. I used to get duck a lot in Europe. They know how to cook it over there. The Chinese restaurants make it so well, that what I thought I was eating today. Crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. The sauce it is served with add a hint of ginger. We got a portion to go for our daughter (12), she loved it. The only flaw was the service. Not busy, but just not that attentive. Several people sat and left before us. . The food covers the service shortfall. Well worth the trip and if you like fried duck, go for it. read more

Fresh and delicious authentic Thai cuisine!! Standouts are definitely the vegetable Pad See Ew, Green Curry Tofu and Pad Thai, but I've tried a lot of the veggie items on the menu and all were amazing - much better than Thai food I've gotten in the city (I live in Chicago). Also the Crab Rangoon and Vegetable dumplings were just....chefs kiss. This is a family run restaurant with the kindest staff and I will be back many times because I'm already craving more. read more

I have tried a few of their curry dishes and They're all really good but the yellow curry is the best. It is so flavorful with lots of spices !! Good amount of vegetables and meat in it. read more

People order from here all the time, I decided to, too. I shouldn't have everything was sodium filled.

Poor service, food not up to par, like a fast food joint. No ambiance whatsoever. No

Just ordered from here for the second time and I am so upset I didn't know about this place sooner! Absolutely delicious!! I've tried so far: Green Curry Drunken Noodles Crab Rangoon All amazing!! And I'm picky. read more

I'm a regular at Royal Thai. The food is pretty good. I get the pepper steak with white rice. I've had their rangoons and is probably my least favorite thing.too much cream cheese and not enough meat filling. read more

The food was good . We did have a few mix ups with our order . But ignored it because we where starving . ( got chicken instead of pork but it was still delicious) . The service on the other hand...... Im not sure who our waiter was. We where served by 4 different people. Its one thing to be attentive to your customers. But this felt like they where literally rushing us out . Mind you we where only there for maybe an hr ? And there where plenty of open tables . Id give them another shot. Maybe today was an off day ? read more

The best Thai restaurant in Lake County and maybe all of Illinois! I've been to Thailand a dozen times and this place reminds me of the place there to eat. The Tom Yum soup is perfect for a sick day/hangover meal! This is my go-to spot for Thai food...Thai ice tea, Thai fried rice, pad sew, sticky rice, etc. A low key date night place (whenever COVID ends). read more

Royal Thai - Really good Shrimp Tom Yum! - Thai Near Me - Gurnee, Illinois

It is refreshing to see a local restaurant amongst the mass of chain restaurants that populate Gurnee due to tourism from Six Flags. We came here to grab a small meal mid afternoon, an unconventional meal time, and surprisingly the restaurant had several tables filled. The place is beautifully decorated, with the theme of black and gold through out and tasteful chosen Thai arts and ornaments. We ordered a medium heat Nam Sod salad and a Vietnamese beef noodle soup. The Nam Sod salad is dish that is consisted of ground chicken stir fried with Thai spices that is served with lettuce. Our salad was served with a small wedge of iceberg lettuce, which took me by surprise. I was expecting lettuce leafs or at least cut up lettuce pieces to make it easier to enjoy the dish with. The dish was well seasoned though, my only dissatisfaction was with the amount of and the way the lettuce was served. The Vietnamese beef noodle soup, or Pho, was delightful! As expected in any good pho, theirs had the hot flavorful beef broth and delicately cooked rice noodle. The beef was a bit hard to chew but overall it is something I would order again. We could not resist their dessert choices, we ordered a mango sticky rice and it was just on point! A good conclusion to our meal. Overall, come here if you want a change of food scenery from all the popular American style chain restaurants. There are some hit or miss in their dishes, but it is still a good place to eat! read more

My bf and I have grabbed take out from Royal Thai twice since we moved here a couple months ago. Both times were fantastic, highly recommend the Duck Curry. Also great are the pad Thai and fried rice, I'm looking forward to trying more of their duck entrees! read more

I dont understand why this place has such a high rating - food was bland and tasteless.

This place is located in a strip mall. The inside has really high ceilings and is modern. The employees are very nice and attentive. I ordered the beef pad thai and asked for it hot. It wasn't even a tad spicy at all. It was still pretty good but I was disappointed that it had no spice when I asked for it. It was a good portion, I finished all of it and was decently full. My MIL got the pineapple fried rice and wished hers was spicy, otherwise enjoyed it. She wasn't asked if she'd like it hot or not when she ordered. My FIL got the pad see ew which he enjoyed. He also would have preferred spicy but he wasn't asked when he ordered either. I tried it and yeah not bad but I'd prob get the pad Thai over it. My husband got the royal noodles which were like wide riced noodles that were deep fried with tofu. It was drenched in a curry sauce- my husband asked for Thai hot and oh boy it was really spicy! I personally am not a fan of Thai curry sauce but he liked it even tho he didn't expect the noodles to all be deep fried. The mango sticky rice was good according to my family. They also enjoyed the Singha and Chang beers. My husband and FIL enjoyed the singha more and my MIL liked the Chang more. read more

So I'll caveat my negative review by pointing out that things may just be the way they are because of the pandemic impact. We paid $13 for the pepper steak entree. Take a look at the pic I uploaded. It is tiny. So tiny that I asked if this was the full order. I gave it to my 5 year old who proceeded to eat everything by herself except for the onions. Seriously, the whole dish was basically 5 pieces of beef, 7 pieces of peppers and a whole onion!!! I would rather have them put it in the app section with the same price or just charge $28-35 for a decent size. We also ordered paid Thai tofu and red chicken curry. Everything was tasty! But again what is up with the "I'm on a diet" portion?! My 4 year old son ate 75% of the Pad Thai by himself! Just increase your price - better way to set customer expectations. read more

Get the Pad See Ew. I crave it every single day, it is so good. The workers are always so kind and the food is amazing. The quality of food is phenomenal and their prices are amazing. I would honestly pay a lot more for their food because it's that good. 11/10 i can't recommend enough. read more

Very disappointed. Love the food here and have ordered several times but today the container was a third of the size for the same price of 13 dollars for curry!! Not sure why they have shrunk their portions so much as I ordered last year and got the big plastic container. I mean I understand the food is still good just not worth the money. You're better off going to N&T for larger portions. I would give the place zero starts if I could but since the food was still tasty it deserves one star. What a conpelte rip off read more

I highly recommend this place. Their food is delish! Only downfall is that their portions have gotten smaller since covid.

Excellent food. One of the best Pad Thai's we've ever had. Definitely going there again.

This was my second visit to this restaurant after eating there a couple years ago on my way home from Wisconsin. Not sure what happened to this place. They no longer serve you. You take a menu and order at the counter. They don't even give you plates. We ordered Rama chicken and Pad Thai. Both tasted mediocre at best. They have a ton of takeout orders which is surprising given the lack of quality. Won't be back again. read more

Not once have I been disappointed by Royal Thai. My staples are the Royal Thai Miso, and the Basil Fried Rice. When I'm back in town from Wisconsin, I make it a point to pick both of these up for at least one meal - so fresh and so filling. I think I'd be lost without them! They're the best Thai resto I've found in the area. The only thing I would be wary of is the service when dining in.. They always seem to have new staff they're training. They're always nice people, but not very knowledgable about the menu. Be confident in your choices, or ask to speak to the veteran staff if you have burning questions; I want you to have the best possible Royal Thai experience possible -- they definitely can deliver! read more

In general, I don't know why good Thai food is so hard to find. I went to Royal Thai hoping that there were be good Thai in the area and unfortunately, it just didn't hit the spot. Despite there being other interesting choices, I stuck to my norm and ordered pad Thai. I feel like if a Thai restaurant does Pad Thai well, they have my business and I'll come back for the other dishes. My boyfriend decided to order the Pad See Ew. We also ordered Thai iced tea and Thai iced coffee. The drinks came out first and they were what we expected. As it was lunch time, we were given a soup and vegetable egg roll while they prepared our entree. The soup resembled chicken noodle soup and it was ok. The vegetable egg roll was served with a pineapple sauce which again was ok. Then our entrees came out. This was probably the first thai place that didn't have peanuts with their pad thai but it did have really small pieces of tofu. These variations didn't make or break the dish but the pad thai overall was neither good nor bad. The pad see ew was less impressive than the pad thai. The color was there but the taste wasn't there at all. To simply put it, the pad see ew was bland. Overall: they have really cool decor on the inside but unfortunately their food just didn't do it for me. Who knows, maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes and they do other dishes better. read more

Our family loves this spot! We have been ordering take out and even stopping in for lunch for many years. We typically get fried dumplings, pepper steak, panang curry, pad Thai, curry fried rice, pad see ew, regular fried rice. It's always on time, hott, and delicious!! Thank you Royal Thai for great service and food every time! read more

I'm rating this restaurant 5 stars based mostly on hospitality. The lady (possibly owner) was super friendly and welcoming. As I was browsing the menu and deciding what I should order, we had a great, down-to-earth conversation about family and random stuff. The food, for me, was okay. I had the padthai and basil fried rice. I felt the need for a bit more flavor. read more

The reatsurant is themed, beautiful and serves deliscious Thai food. The staff is courteous, and the food portions are just right for one person. unfortunately, we were forced to move from a fairly affluent area to Waukegan, Illinois. At the old house, there are countless fantastic restaurants, not far away. A great spot offering delivery during Covid, was fast delivery as well. (Came 30 minutes earlier than stated all while driving in the snow storm!) ordered sweet and sour chicken which was very good, even though the chicken came in the sauce it was still nice and crispy by the time it got here. Pad Thai which had very good flavors, and spicy ramen, also good. My only complaint is the egg roll, it was not even close to an egg roll, more like a spring roll. Maybe their grub hub menu offers less than the standard menu because I saw other options for egg rolls which were not available. All in all we were pleased and will definitely order again! read more

Placed a pick-up order through their website on Mother's Day around 4pm, fully expecting the wait to be longer than usual, however received confirmation right away that the restaurant accepted my order and it would be ready within 50 min at most. Sent husband to pick it up and he was told our food wasn't ready but that they'd call him when it was. He waited in his car for 2 hours with no call from the restaurant. After the first hour he tried repeatedly to call and cancel the order but no one ever answered. Eventually he just came home & it is now 6:45pm and STILL no word from Royal Thai that our food is ready. They have our $60, but we have nothing to show for it. Don't accept orders you can't fill, it's that simple! We will NEVER give this place our business again. UPDATE: We never heard from Royal Thai, never received any food & they kept our $60! We are still in the process of disputing the charge with our bank, and definitely do not recommend giving your money to these crooks. Plenty of other wonderful local restaurants to support, including the very excellent Lovely Thai in Grayslake! read more
