Came here with a party of 8 on a Saturday right at opening. We were greeted and seated right away. The interior is very nicely decorated with beautiful Thai inspired decor. We ordered a ton of stuff and did family style. The rangoons were delicious as well as the fried fish (not pictured). The pad Thai was pretty solid too. Most of the stuff was pretty average which isn't bad. Definitely not the worst but not the best Thai food I've ever had. Service was great though. First time here. Decides to eat in and enjoy the ambience. I needed to treat myself after a long day with good food. Ordered crab fried rice, coconut prawns, crab wonton . Service is good thus far. Not crowded. Very friendly and courteous service. I recommend this restaurant. It's in a small mall area. Other restaurants are across the street as well. Lots of parking. I've been coming to Royal Thai since 2012 when I first moved to the area. It's long been one of my daughter's favorites and I just discovered that it's the favorite of a good friend because Royal Thai will make their Thai Iced Tea with coconut milk - which not every place will do. On top of that, the yellow curry, the pad see ew, the massamun cuery, and the spring rolls are favorites among my entire family. The service is always pleasant and caring and we love the area to the right of the front door when you walk in, which the feeling of a secluded patio, but indoors. It makes the meal feel extra special. My only tiny complaint from my recent visit is that the brown rice was dried out -- otherwise everything is always top notch. read more

Royal Thai is a pretty average Thai place. I ended up choosing this place because it was next door to the taproom. The inside has a pretty nice atmosphere and we were greeted promptly for placing a take out order. The food came out pretty quickly and we were on our way. I went with panang curry and it was pretty good. Best I've had? No. But I'd eat it again if offered to me. Prices are maybe a little high, but I did get enough for 2 meals, which is what I expect when I go to Thai places. If you're in the area this is not a bad choice. read more

We have always loved the food at this place. Consistent high quality and good value are two things to note. Even through the pandemic, this restaurant remained open for takeout, which we took advantage of frequently, living only a minute or two down the street. All of the dishes I have had here have been great, some even excellent. Fresh spring rolls are super. Pad Thai is excellent. This restaurant does charge a rather high price for their menu, however, if you read the fine print you will realize that they actually pay their workers a decent wage and provide benefits to them. So remember this when you go there that tipping is optional and tip according to how good the service was. What I can say is that if you enjoy Thai food, you will enjoy this place. I miss it, having moved out of the area. I will though stop in next time I'm in town. read more

Dishes were yummy and fresh and Mongolian Beef came with rice. They could save by using compostable paper to go boxes rather than the plastic ones and serve bigger portions to make the $20+ price make more sense. read more

We've tried many dishes here and all were good to great. The classics are all done well. Going to the restaurant, ambiance is good. Typical strip mall decor, but very clean and staff are very nice. Our one big complaint, and what keeps us from eating here more is their online ordering system does not work and hasn't for a while. It's very irritating to get your order ready and payment system doesn't work even though it looks like it will. They should just remove it as an option. It has never worked for us in two years. They are losing out on a lot of business because of this, it's a shame. read more

This place has degraded significantly over the last few years. Ordered their Pad Thai twice lately and it was lacking flavor (last order was even at their spiciest level). Next up the summer rolls with tofu -- these were good and fresh, but the dipping sauce tasted fishy, I ended up dipping them in the peanut sauce that came with the fried tofu. For my entree I ordered the pad see ew. It was a massive portion and tasted just like what I wanted chewy noodles, crunchy broccoli, and tons of tofu. I would come here again, just because it's so close to where I live. However, the service was average, it's okay inside, but for the outrageous prices they really need to step up their service and the vibes of the establishment. The staff were so nice and polite. My sister accidentally spilled her water and they moved us to a new table asap and mopped it all up asap. They didn't make us feel bad about it or anything. They let me get a side of fried rice which wasn't even on the menu technically and they are so amazing for that. They have an appetizer plate that is all my favorite appetizers in one and it was very tasty. I even had leftovers! The place itself is casual dining and not too loud. We really like this Thai restaurant. We enjoy the lunch specials and the full menu. Spice level is made to order, mild to hot. Haven't had anything here we didn't like. If you love Burmese noodles or Rama or think Curry rocks this is your place. Exceptionally good peanut sauce. Pretty frustrated at their website. I went through ordering for 6 people, entered all my info and thought I had paid--the "payment didn't process" message was not visible on the screen after what looked like successful processing. Drove to the restaurant to discover they didn't have my order. What's worse, the website is broken--there's literally no way to order online. So now I order in the store and they charge me $10 more than the website was going to charge me. They don't offer any way to honor the price I should have been charged. They wasted an hour of my time and did not make it right. I'm very frustrated. The food is fine. Nothing to write home about. I preferred Golden Teak when it was around, but it's passable. I'm just really upset about the ordering process and being charged 10% more because their systems don't work. read more

Really great place to eat. The food is authentic and at times very unique . Very centered around vegetable dishes and definitely on par if you are vegetarian or vegan. The sauces are excellent and the food is not littered with salt as a flavoring. Singapore noodles are my favorite in addition to the fried tofu appetizers. The food is pretty good, but it has always been more expensive than other comparable-quality options. About 4 or 5 years ago the prices increased significantly with signage indicating the increase was to pay employees a fair wage without relying on tips, and they removed tipping from the checkout process. Tips have been back in practice for over 3 years while the prices have continued to rise and the portions have gotten smaller. I expect prices to increase with inflation, but the prices are higher than other comparable restaurants, and the portions are smaller. read more

This used to be my favorite spot around for Thai. Over the last few years they have really gone down hill in terms of quality of food, price and portion size. I understand covid, inflation, etc...but they have not kept pace with the competition. I have started mainly going to Loak Toung off Center St. and while their prices have risen as well, it has been less drastic and more in line with the market. Their quality and portion has also remained consistent over that time. I wish RTB would step it up too because I loved their Mongolian Beef, Panang curry and Pad Thai. read more

The crab fried rice is a 10 out of 10 I definitely highly recommend especially if you're a seafood lover. The fresh tofu rolls were also delicious I definitely appreciated the big pieces of tofu it went very well with the peanut sauce. We had dinner here tonight (Mildred Street, Tacoma, Wa. March 31, 2024) and was very disappointed! The food was LOUSY! small portions at that and the price was high. Was wondering why we were the only guests here. Now we know why! I recall about six years ago the last time we dined here the food was great. The price of the menu was high at that time too but we were told they already included tips, but tonight, the bill asked for tips and I put 0.00. When I'm lunching with colleagues and clients Royal Thai is the perfect spot. It's super centrally located for people coming from the Lakewood Area, DT Tacoma, or from North Tacoma so folks love it as a meeting point. Royal Thai stands as our favorite Thai. We now live 25 minutes away in Port Orchard and seek them out. When we came in 2 weeks ago the cleanliness really stood out as we just walked out of a place nearby that was not clean. The food is always great and my wife who only eats seafood as protein compliments them for cooking their seafood perfectly. It's never rubbery which is hard to not do with cooked seafood and hot sauces on top. Thai Catfish with Panang is our go to. We recently got a quick To Go on our way to a concert. Pad Thai is an easy bite and it's when we realized how much better this place is then our favorite in our city. Such a common Thai dish we take for granted was sooo flavorful. So much it prompted me to write a review. Don't let the unassuming spot in a strip mall detour you. Service is top notch friendly and plenty of staff for everyone. read more

Went here with my mom and we ordered swimming rama. We thought we ordered the lunch special but in fact when the food came it was the dinner portion. So, we had way too much food and were a little frustrated. Mind you that our order came after two Parties that were seated way after us. The dish was ok but very watery from the cooked veggies which created a pooling at the bottom of the dish. There just wasn't enough flavor or sauce which was sad because we have eaten here before and it was wonderful that why we came back. Overall, way too over priced for just veggies and chicken. When we were were ready to pay the server was no where to be found , i literally had to bring my check to the front and when asked from the manager how was everything I told him and he laughed. tl;dr: Bit pricey, but cute place with good service and good food. Royal Thai makes the most of its small space, with cute decorations and enough barriers and false roof awnings to make the different areas feel separate. The service is professional and the menu has something for everyone. We sat at a table for 2 by the window. The soft piano music and gently trickling water feature nearby put me in the mood for pensive staring out the window, but the view just looks right out onto the starkly lit parking lot. The table itself was tiny, barely big enough for our two plates, let alone appetizer plates and big shareable entree dishes. I had to turn sideways to open the menu all the way and had to catch things sliding off the table every time we shifted anything. We loved the food. The Washington Apple drink was sweet and refreshing, the crab fried rice was perfect, and the honey glazed walnut chicken was plentiful and sugary. The presentation was gorgeous across the board. We left with bulging bellies and still had two big boxes of leftovers. It was a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. That said, at about $25/person with drinks, it's only a few dollars less expensive than the far more upscale Indochine downtown. The service and food are comparable, so unless you're looking for a spacious restaurant, Royal Thai can get you a similar Thai evening at a lower price. read more

Honestly, I love this place because the owners are super nice and sweet. And the food never disappoints. I have had my church and friends order and cater Thai food here, and I mean a lot of food is given out. If you come for lunch special, there is always a list of specials. they go above and beyond. For lunch free soup, pad Thai, and also rice is included with whatever dish was ordered. I noticed that they have done away with tipping and just added the tip to the meal price, which is convenient and makes it simple. I can't believe I haven't wrote about this place yet. We ordered the Penang curry and also the garlic chicken. Both were delicious. As always, service was great, and my favorite is that I always leave with leftovers. thank you for being so generous with portions! read more

The food here is good. I have ordered here twice. The appetizer platter was hit or miss. The eggrolls and dumplings weren't great, but everything else was pretty good. I ordered ginger stir fry and it had a variety of veggies and was a pretty huge portion. I had leftovers for two more meals. We also got wings, which were good. My husband got some sort of breaded chicken that looked delicious. He really enjoyed it. The prices were decent, normal for Thai food. And everything came that we ordered without issues from the delivery service. Definitely will eat here again. read more

Finally got to try this place and lawdddd.. the portions are America af.. which I'm ok with.. I'll have some for lunch too.. I could probably eat Thai everday..but my man not so much.. so when he ordered this I was already surprised...and excited...he ordered the seafood pad thai.. tofu pad Thai.. and the tofu sesame mango wrap appetizer... And a Thai tea.. love love so much.. I'll probably give 5 stars when I eat in the restaurant for sure.. I want the full experience.. read more
