Absolutely love this place. My wife and I live in the area and walked over with our little ones a few times in the past couple weeks. We've had several meals and they're all incredible. The fresh spring rolls are a must for an appetizer. We've enjoyed the Pad Thai, the Panang Curry, the pineapple fried rice and our absolute favorite meal Pad Se Ew. The wide noodles are delicious. The restaurant is very well put together with all the little details telling a story. The staff is super friendly and very accommodating. We eat that restaurant about a once a month when in the mood for Thai food and can afford the wait. The couple that run the place are very congenial and accommodating. The decor is well done, light and airy with lots of windows. The food is generally good and freshly prepared. The menu features some grilled chicken items that are my particular favorite. But, the current owner won't make them as he says they take too long to prepare. Previously, under different ownership they made these items and they were very tasty. I find it annoying that the menu still features items that the chef refuses to make, even by request. The wait time is generally very long as there is only one chef and one greeter/waitress/server/busser. In my thinking, I've already invested a substantial wait time, why not make one of my favorite dishes. read more

We were a party of six and all six people loved their food. I got the Panang Curry, which was delicious. It is a quiet restaurant, good for good conversation. Nothing hectic or rushed about it. The server asks how spicy you'd like your order, on a scale of 1-5, great way to get the spices just right. I loved the ambiance and courtesy of the staff, who pop in to be sure you have everything you need. I ordered the beef with green beans, spice level 2; which was delicious and expertly seasoned with crisp green beans and tender beef. My even more cautious partner ordered Thai fried rice spice level 0, which could have been tasty with some seasoning, but not to my taste with no heat. That is served in a pyramid shape with carrots, cabbage, onion and a couple snow peas and broccoli florets with optional meat. He chose chicken which was tender breast meat but unappealing to me without the spicy flavor. Unfortunately the crab fried wonton tasted fishy, but noticing the nearly untouched plate our server (an owner) stated she was taking it off our bill. We went there last night and we were suprised to be the only people there, which made us question if we chose a good spot to eat. Well we did! The owners were very kind to us and extremely attentive servers. My glass was always filled with water and they brought the glass of soda out without me even noticing! The atmosphere is very cozy and relaxing as well which is sometimes hard to find on busy 6th st. The food was delicious, pictures don't do it justice, as the give big plates making the portions look smaller than they actually are. We decided to stop by Wild Orchid and pick up Thai food the other night. We chose the red and green curry, as well as sticky rice and brown rice. My partner isn't fond of tofu, so we got the crispy tofu on the side of the red curry and fresh tofu in the green curry. Both were delicious! They had a variety of vegetables and everything was cooked perfectly. The reason for four stars is because I think rice should come with curry dishes and all entrees. We visited a second time while in Tacoma and our food and visit were wonderful. The spicy catfish was really unique and wonderful. First noticed this restaurant while spending time in the neighborhood and made a mental note to come try it one night! Glad we did. The ambiance is nicer than most places in Tacoma. Good for a date night or dinner with friends. They had a great looking cocktail menu (although we didn't order from it). I'm not a fan of cartilage. I have a friend from Taiwan, who tells me that fatty meats on-the-bone are favored there. This is what you will find in more traditional restaurants, and that's absolutely fine. Just not my bag. Wild Orchid is. Three words come to mind when I think of the food they serve here. Fresh, Tasty and Consistent. Every time I have dined here, the food was wonderfully prepared and served just as good as the previous visits. They use lean meats, fresh seafood and vegetables. I get the honey walnut shrimp often, and it's never been strong or "shrimpy", the clear sign of not so fresh shrimp. Depending on the day, I bounce from Spicy Noodles and the Cashew Chicken. Thin slices of chicken breast seasoned with each dish's sauce never disappoint. Just fantastic. Great for calling ahead for takeout, or even better for dining in. I don't know what it is. Of all the restaurants that I tried during my trip to Seattle/Tacoma. This place I remember like as if I went here for brunch today! (Mind you.. this was last Saturday!) I don't think the setting of the place is anything special. For a restaurant that is called "wild orchid" you would think they would make sure their orchid is fresh as the centerpiece on the table. The fried rice was pretty crackin! and it was AMAZING with the yellow curry. I don't remember curry being this good. It was a party in my mouth!! I love all types of curry, so I can be pretty picky when it comes to my curries. The drunken noodle was pretty good too. It just tasted like normal noodle dish to me. But again, amazing with curry.
