I signed up for a hot stone massage. The price looked really good, so I thought, why not? The massage was way too rough. I tried to communicate to the massage therapist that it was too rough, but her English was extremely limited, and it continued to hurt. At times, my body was squirming from discomfort. I thought maybe it would get better or that I would feel that it got all the knots out after. Well, I did not feel better later and ended up with a dark, large bruise on my back and a smaller bruise nearby also. Unacceptable. The massage therapist also lowered my underwear pretty far without asking. Consent is very important, and I would imagine this would make many people feel uncomfortable. I understand doing some glute work, but proper draping did not take place, so I was very exposed. It makes me doubt that they've gone through proper training or if they are even licensed to practice. So... My father, who is an elderly gentleman, had been suffering from muscle pain in his back for several days. It was bothering him so much that he actually wanted to go get a massage. I called Royal Spa because I have seen their sign and wanted to support a small business rather than send him to a corporate chain location. He got a 30 minute deep tissue massage which cost $35 according to their price list on their website. When my father came home, during the course of conversation, he informed me that he paid $85 in cash for his massage! I called right away and was more than adamant that they were to refund him the $50 immediately! It took me 5 minutes to get there. They called me while I was on my way to inform me that they would refund the $50 and I could leave a $5 or $10 tip for the girl. He had laid the money out on the counter and said to the girl, "$85, right?" And she took the money KNOWING the massage was only $35! They didn't hesitate to give me the money which only proved THEY KNEW THEY WERE WRONG! They did their job, he got a 30 minute massage, but did they honestly think an elderly gentleman was leaving a $50 tip? PLEASE!!! They tried to steal $50 from my father! They took advantage! I have chronic tension in my shoulder and upper back, and the therapist paid attention to every spot, some I didn't even know were troubling me. Just got back from this place, first time ever since I just moved to the area. Woman was nice, ok massage kept just using her elbow though. Barely hands on my back to massage out the knots. When it was time to pay, I gave her 20 bucks and said just give me 10 back and you keep the rest. At first, she tried to make it like she didn't have change, then said well $5 back you were " hard" my elbows hurt you were so tense. I proceeded with excuse me, she said we get 20 percent tip. Look on the board, for next time. I told her 10 was fine for what she did. Just because of this, I will NOT be back! I thought that was super rude, demanding another 2 bucks, and stating her elbows hurt. I go for massages 2x a month, and never got that treatment towards paying ever. Clean, nice staff and right across the parking lot from my foot doctors office. Definitely do the hour and half session for $80 plus tip! I'm giving then 4 stars however if there would be an option for 3 1/2 stars I would certainly choose that option. There was only one person on staff at the time I came and she was still the only one there when I left. I wondered if anyone came in at that time for service who would assist them, since she was busy with me. She gave me a great massage and even gave me a little extra time. I think her name is Anna, she was friendly sweet and extremely pleasant. Overall, the massage was great! However, she does not understand a word of English and when I say not a word I mean not a word. So the only way to communicate with her was through google translation. Before the massage I didn't mind talking to her through google translation since I'm very accepting of others. However, at times in middle of my massage she was a little to tough and it hurt. I said ouch, don't think she understood to go lighter and I wasn't going to use google translation in middle of my peaceful massage. My overall experience was great and was easily noticed by my difficulty in accepting that the massage was actually over ! Your serious??? That hour flew by! As a btw their price is phenomenal for one hour is 50 dollars! Oh, and don't forget to tip! To make a long story short, overall great experience with some language barriers!! Massage was ok. Unable to provide the therapeutic massage for my neck that I requested. I asked for a neck and shoulder concentrated massage however they were unable to provide what I asked. Extraordinary massage - one of the best I've had - and I'm a big guy who likes it strong. And for fifty an hour? Incredible. It looks modest on the outside, and it's not a spa-spa with a relaxation room or showers/baths, but for a good massage it's terrific. The person running it was professional, accommodating, had rooms for couples and single - and was able to make a reservation for three people a day ahead. Had SI joint problems and was advised to try a very deep tissue massage, I used Anna at Royal Spa, I don't mean to scare anyone I just want to give you the heads up that it was the most uncomfortable massage I have ever experienced, but about 2 hours after the massage my back pain was totally gone and I mean gone. I was good for about 2-3 days and then pain started creeping back, had another massage, this time less discomfort. I try to go once a week and to date my lower back pain has improved by 95%. Anna really has working knowledge of the muscles. Glute muscles are very uncomfortable when VERY DEEP tissue massage is applied, but if you can suck it up and endure the pain you will be better off in the long run. Anna does not understand a word of English, but if you point to the problem area she knows exactly what to do and how to treat it. Good luck, and it will get better. read more
