A rather empty conversion of an old Vietnamese place on the main road gives an echoey room full of noisy contented diners and intriguing oily aromas. With no booking we had a short wait on NYE 2013 before getting our table for two and ordering coke and Tsinghua. The main menu was completely ignored in favour of the all-you-can-eat hotpot deal which weighs in at £18 per person. Spicy broth and clear broth came along with plates an plates of mostly frozen meat, mushrooms and seafood. Nothing tasted like good quality and the service followed the Chinese London pattern of being borderline aggressive, but hey, we weren't in Surrey Quays for fine dining and locally-sourced ingredients; we were here to stuff our faces with as much cheap and super-spicy stuff as we could. Deal with it. So bottom-less spicy hotpot does exist in London after all. It's not that good but still awesome that it exists. Don't eat for 2 days and then come here and don't stop eating for hours. That's how Elites do it!

The food quality was ok we had mini wok and Chrissy duck. The wok was "fun" because we got the good on an actual wok and it was large but it was a bit greasy bit that might be because we went with lamb option. The crispy duck was nice and good size. Surprisingly they have many milk shake options and they tasted very nice, definitely recommend them especially if you order something spicy.

When we left, there were diners sitting at four other tables. The restaurant was clean and well lit. Service was efficient, friendly and personable. We were hungry and ordered too much food. They started us off with a three section sampling of Pickled Cabbage, Pickled Daikon and Carrot and Roasted Peanuts. We ordered: Grilled Pork Potstickers - 4 - good flavor, thin skin. I prefer more veg. Won Ton Soup - 4 - four Won Ton, cabbage, green onions in a nice broth. Had I not been hungry, I would have ordered Hot & Sour Soup with Won Ton added in. Hot & Sour Soup - 5 - Lot of stuff in the soup and it was both Hot and Sour. Alas, the soup portions are individual sized and I didn't order it. Egg Fried Rice - 2 - absolutely nothing special but we needed some rice to absorb the Duck juice and aubergine sauce. Roast Duck - 3 - it was okay but not nearly as fatty as it should have been. They made up for that by adding a gravy. The gravy flavor mixed in well with the Nappa Cabbage underneath the duck. That made the rice more palatable. Aubergine, Potato and Bell Pepper in Garlic Sauce - 4 - lose the potato and they have a winner. I'd rather have a slightly smaller portion than an unnecessary filler.

Super Noodle has changed management a couple of times in these past few years. A lot may have known…read moreit as Royal Palace, maybe Noodle Express or Noodle Family Now it is called Super Noodle although the outside sign still pretty much remains the same and the menu is not much different to what it was when it was Noodle Family. They are known for their northern Chinese cuisine and known for its hand pulled noodle soup and dry wok dishes. Their buffet hotpot is pretty popular too and charged at only £18.80, something we must come back for. It's newly renovation brings in the classic dark wooden Chinese tables and chairs into a bright modern atmosphere, with pretty butterfly artwork in the corners. Service was friendly and kind, informing us of an offer running where if you spend over £15 you can get a dish for free from a set menu. Slice pork belly with garlic soya sauce chilli oil This was definitely one of the better dishes. The pork was sliced thin, incredibly tender and juicy, taking on the flavour of the soy sauce marinate and the chilli oil. A good ratio of fatty meat and lean meat for a nice contrast of texture. The chilli oil was more fragrant than spicy with nice aromas of the five spices that were all very well balanced Homemade flat noodle mix with dice pork and vegetables The noodles were slightly overcooked resulting in a slight mushy texture. The whole dish lacked depth as the accompany sauce was quite generic and because the sauce came separately the flavours, it didn't really infuse into the noodles. The pork was quite absent in flavour too and the main flavour that came from the sauce was the one noted soy based slurry. Stir fried morning glory with chilli and fermented beancurd As much as I appreciate the generous portion and the freshness of the greens, it was really lacking wok energy. It was quite greasy but I couldn't taste the fermented tofu or chilli at all. At least the seasoning was on par and the natural sweetness and flavours of the morning glory made it enjoyable. Pork and cabbage dumplings These weren't their strongest points either. The filling was okay, quite fragrant and nice textures but sadly not enough of it and the ratio of pastry was far greater and therefore masking some of the flavours. It was also quite thick with not enough moisture in the filling making it quite stodgy. Salted egg yolk with sweetcorn This reminded me of stale popcorn, the batter collapsing on itself as you bite into it and resulting into a mush of chewy batter. I expected it to be much more crisp. It didn't have much the sweet and salty flavour from the salty egg yolk I was expecting and therefore became quite lacklustre and tiring to eat after a few bites. Homemade knife peeled noodles with stewed lamb As much as I enjoyed the skill work involved in making these noodles so thin and silky, sadly the broth let the dish down. It wasn't awful but lacked depth and was over seasoned with salt. The lamb came in slices and didn't give much flavour. The tea stained egg was somewhat rubbery as if it wasn't fresh, leaving only the fresh Shanghai bok choy left to be tasteful enough to be enjoyed with the noodles. Fish slices in spicy soup with chopped chillies This was another dish I enjoyed. Although it was slightly on the salty side, it was forgiven by the beautiful silky textures of the fish. The fish slices were incredibly fresh and flakey taking on the flavours of the fragrant spicy soup. They definite succeed better in their spicy Sichuan dishes, using a good balance of the spices to give complexity to the soup base. Super Noodle wouldn't be a place I'll find my way to eat Sichuan food. Their kitchen staff seems inexperienced producing dishes that don't reach their full potential. Most dishes lacked depth and a few were over seasoned. Food was exactly cheap either. Still it's not the worse choice of a restaurant you can possible make especially with the lack of restaurants in the area.

I had a wonderful work lunch in the mid afternoon with 6 colleagues (I love working in insurance --…read moremy trips to London for a week, several times per year, include 4-8 truly excellent meals, limited only by my diet.) This is a northern Chinese restaurant on an upper floor of the Shard, a tall skyscraper on the south side of the Thames overlooking the City. While they could easily just coast on the location, it also has beautiful Chinese design throughout the restaurant, and quite good food (comparing it to some of the best restaurants in Shanghai). Service, especially in the less busy times like our late afternoon private dining, is quite good as well (we had a dedicated server in our room for 2 hours). Unfortunately you do pay quite a bit for all of this (fortunately for me it was covered by work, and actually the supplier/partner was hosting us); you could easily pay $200-300/person without alcohol, and up from there, but there are some set menu lunch options which could be $100-200/person total. I'd love to go back for drinks in the evening sometime, but for food, I really enjoyed mid-afternoon when the place was fairly empty, quiet, and very attentive service. We did the least expensive set menu per person (GBP 35 for 3 small plate versions of popular items), a whole duck, and maybe 7 other dishes (multiple orders of a few types of dim sum, some vegetables); somehow managed to be the perfect amount of food with less than half a plate left over, across 7 people.

Chinese food can be made very inexpensive but this experience wad the total opposite. 3/5 1/2 duck - very cool to see them slice the duck table side but left so much on the bones that I was deeply shocked. What do they do with the rest? Served with wraps and sides. Tastes ok but I've had better. 4/5 King prawns - this is the best fish we had, but for the price there should be more than just 3! 1/5 Kai lan - the worst dish. Served with an additional side but the veggies were very bland I surprised the portions were so small for the price. I wish the waiter would have told me this. I also told him this was our first time. My suggestion, go to the shard for views and cocktails. Not for dinner. However the lunch menu seemed much more affordable.

The dishes were all good, but none were particularly excellent. I had: Aged Beef Rice (£14.75) - Incredibly salty, but I like it like that. Classic Bao (£5.50) - Good, but not distinctive. Meat was a bit dryer than it should, and bun wasn't soft and hot. Beef Short Rib Bao (£6.50) - I preferred this to the Classic pork bao and it was quite good, but again, not distinctive. Grilled Cucumber Salad (£5.50) - A nice side dish, but was swimming in oil, so not as healthy as we hopped. House Salad (£5.50) - Mostly kale with some dressing, a nice addition to get some greens. Service was a bit chaotic, it was sometimes unclear how we should order or from whom. At last call, we asked if we needed to order dessert now, and one server said we could order that later, but when the time came, we were unable. The setting was a bit compact, and most of the chairs are stools with no backs. I feel like this place was designed to be half the price, but the Michelin designation spoiled that. It'd be hard to leave full for under £35-£40 without drinks, and for that pricing, I'd at least like a proper chair and elbow room.

Beef rice: great potion of beef but it's pretty spicy - not just from the black pepper but i think they also added chilly oil. If you can't take spices, perhaps ask if they can take it easy on the chilly? Baos: I've tried all of them and I love them all. The bun is very soft and spongy with a bit of sweetness to it. I could have it all day everyday. Roasted aubergine: wow! Please order this. It's like an Asian version of babaganoush! The fried dough is a fried version of their bun - so yummy.
