    A. Wong is an interesting version of a 2 Michelin Star restaurant. Walking in you start with very caring and kind service. Every single person you interact with has obviously been trained well and cares deeply about the food and history of the spot. Then you have the niceties of a champagne cart to start with great prices on the champagne, and very wonderful cocktails through and through. Service and drinks never faltered once during my Saturday Dim Sum at A. Wong. We then ordered a lot of food and it ranged from great to very mid. My favorite dish was the aubergine with chili crisps, so light, so fresh, really quite good. Other highlights included the duck yolk bun and the garlic chili wonton with egg yolk. The scallop sandwich was also just divine. Other dishes were completely decent, just not exciting like the shumai. and then somehow the Peking Duck just didn't live up to what would be expected in Beijing. All in all we were happy with the meal but wish it came out to about half of what it ended up coming out to from a price perspective

The biggest problem with eating dim sum is: there could be too many delicious bites to describe. The restaurant itself is pretty big, maybe 60 seats including a dozen at the bar, and almost every seat was full during my weekday prixe-fixe lunch. The servers were knowledgeable and personable... and busy.  A small new item arrived in front of me about every 5 minutes, plus the wines. And the food was excellent: the "999 layered scallop puff," was technically exacting, and beautifully presented... The "Memories of Peking Duck," was also delicious, although I can't ever remember having shaved truffle and caviar on my Peking duck... my local Cantonese restaurant must be in a more "working class" neighborhood. The problem, of course, is everyone, including me, loves each bite, and wants more... but doesn't want to wait for the next visit.  2024 04 30. M2.

We made a reservation here for a la carte lunch, and it was a wonderful experience, but not all of the food was a total hit. Everything is priced by the piece, so it does add up. I definitely had some favorites and some I wouldn't order again, but everything was beautifully plated and I had a wonderful experience. One of my favorites was the scallop cheung fun. They had such unique and innovative plays on traditional dim sum food. Like the shumai and har gao were even done differently than usual (and done extremely well!!). The service was also quite nice, but I did have to get their attention a couple times to notice I needed a refill on my tea. The restaurant itself was set up in an interesting way. If you arrive early, they take you to a waiting area in their basement which is quite interesting. However, I'm not a fan of their outdoor dining section--it feels a little makeshift and doesn't feel as upscale as what you might expect a 2 Michelin star place to feel like. I'd love to come back here to do the tasting menu for dinner as I hear it's a bit different from the lunch menu. Overall, will likely be back, but it is pricey with some hits and misses, so won't be a regular occurrence.

Typically, I wouldn't write about a restaurant that I didn't like, but A. Wong--the Chinese restaurant outside of China with the most Michelin stars--was that much of a crushing disappointment. With waiting lists until November, my mom and I literally ran across London when we got a call that they could squeeze us in. Alas, the food just wasn't that good. For every dish, we could think of a significantly cheaper restaurant in China that could do better. We could make better-tasting food. With every dish served, we grew more anxious for the meal to be over. A. Wong's issue is not 'inauthenticity,' which may be a concern for some diners. We have loved Chinese fusions and creative dim sum before. But unique is not always preferable, as evidenced by their xiao long bao soup that simply tasted off. Attempts to be innovative fell flat with overly salty or sour aftertastes, and gimmicks like a crunch on top of the xiu mai, or painting our peking duck wraps with a paintbrush, added little to the actual flavor, leaving us very much unmoved. Even dishes where flavors were ok, like the DIY lamb buns, could not possibly justify their price (for 肉夹馍, Murger Han is an option that provides far better value). While some dishes were 'too' creative, others were the definition of mediocrity. The tofu starter or the beef rice bowl main were laughably pretentious -- a spot-the-difference game between generic Chinese food and supposed fine dining. The pickled vegetables atop the tofu could have been store-bought 涪陵榨菜; the so-called spicy wagyu beef mixture under the corn starter was suspiciously reminiscent of 老干妈. A restaurant whose flavors are either unpleasant or unexceptional is hardly deserving of the praise that A. Wong has garnered. The best restaurants are good because their food is truly original and memorable, not just aesthetically interesting. A. Wong offers nothing special in flavor, service, or environment, yet is exorbitantly priced. Our repeated lamentation of the night was: what were you thinking, Michelin? Dined: September 6, 2021

Not having been back to Hong Kong for some time, I don't know any other restaurant that has fine dining for dim sum. It certainly doesn't exist in NYC. Which makes A.Wong a must go to spot for any fans of dim sum. I wish there were Canto chefs in NY that are as imaginative and innovative as Chef Wong. Scallop puff was simply amazing. It's beyond describing so I won't try. Just get it. Duck yolk custard bun was probably the best thing there. Soft chewy bun with creamy custard inside with a nice toasted bottom. Must get. Prawn roll was good but you could skip. Wagyu tart with peas was a nice one bite wonder. Good but you can pass. The shrimp dumpling with foam and pork shu mai and pork crackling are 1/2 combos you must get. Roast pork with foie gras to share wasn't presented as beautifully but was good. Not a must. Glutinous rabbit and carrot puff was excellent. Shaped like a carrot, it was one of my favorites. Must get. Soft shell crab rice roll was another favorite. Must get. Spicy wonton with fried tofu was good but not a must have. Shrimp dumpling with infused vinegar was wonderful. Must get. Wild mushroom Truffle bun is placed on faux grass and made to look like a mushroom and is executed perfectly. Must get. Scallop rice roll is good and worth a try. Tastes are similar to the scallop puff.

It's been 3 months since I visited A. Wong, and the duck yolk custard bun still lives rent free in my mind. I think about it daily and look forward to my next visit.

Simply amazing. Great service and awesome food. The Dim Sum was delicious, as was the Peking Duck. The King Prawns though, along with the crispy beef were the star of the show! Great value for money and it's clear why they have a Michelin Star !

A lovely light meal here. I sat at the bar which was perfect for the solo diner. The staff was attentive and friendly. I started with the Peking cocktail...champagne, citrus puree with candy floss sprayed with an atomizer of cognac. Delicious and so very pretty. I just had a couple of small plates, the chengdu street tofu (almost wished I had made a double order). It had so much flavor in such a small bowl. Could have definitely eaten more. Then I had the crab and seafood in braised leaves...wow. The broth was so flavorful that I wanted to tilt the bowl and drink it. Very very delicious and surprisingly filling for such a delicate dish. After dinner I decided on another drink so I went downstairs to the Forbidden City bar in their basement (only access through the restaurant). The decor was very early 20th century opium den and the staff was again great. They have a specialty old fashioned on their menu that contains duck fat. I had a standard old fashioned (my bartender's 1st!) and it was delicious. The perfect ending to my first night in London. Even though I was there on a Thursday, the restaurant was very crowded, but it isn't a huge space. Reservations are recommended

This place is a 10. The service was impeccable. The staff was friendly, accommodating & knowledgeable. The food was superb. We ordered al la cart as we didn't have THAT much time before hitting the theater. We got the dumpling basket, EXCELLENT, i mean the flavor was there, the texture was there, the consistency & they were all the PERFECT temperature. Next, the duck with the pancake thing. They came around with a duck leg and all the fixings. The server went ahead and deboned & shredded the duck meat. See photo. it was amazing The aubergine was the best eggplant dish i have ever eaten in my life. Got the crunchy noodles they were perfectly crunch with lots of flavor and sauce on the bottom, big dish, very filling. Got the octopus black pepper dish, i was so stuffed by the time this arrived but it was glorious. Finally got the banana dessert, it was so good, i wanted to lick the plate. there's always an extra pocket in the belly for dessert, whatever you do TRY TO SAVE ROOM FOR IT.

When dim sum have a Michelin star! While I wasn't blown away (except for the custard buns) it's dim sums in it's most refined and creative level for a rather good price! If you manage to get a table, you should most definitely go!! We shared a few of the dim sums and snacks first: Chengdu Street Tofu (very nice), Shangai steamed dumpling ( like xao long bao), Sechuanese chicken and peanut bonbon, Wagyu tart with black beans, Isle of Mull seared scallop and cheung fun, Steamed duck yolk custard bun (a must order), Pork and prawn dumpling, wild mushroom and truffle steamed buns, clear shrimp dumpling and rabbit and carrot glutinous. We also shared a crispy duck and Singapour noodles. Overall I would say certain dishes and presentation deserve the Michelin star but others may not be as up to par. However this is fine Chinese food for a fairly democratic price and it was delicious enough that I would love to come back if I ever manage to get a table again

I'm soon leaving London after living here for over 5 years. And as every good urban explorer, I have a list of things-to-do. A visit at A. Wong had been bookmarked ever since I saw the reviews of trusted Yelpers like Rich M and Steve B. And so - with a mere two weeks to go - I had to create a carefully worked out schedule and tonight it was time for A. Wong. Blissfully disregarding the other Yelpers comments on making a reservation even for lunch time, I showed up for dinner without announcement. But it was Monday night and the restaurant was able to accommodate me immediately. In fact, it was rather quiet and so I enjoyed the attention and great hospitality of many of the waiting staff. The waitress who welcomed me, offered me a seat at a table, but spotting the stools at the bar, I asked to be sat there; I much more enjoy sitting at a bar, when it's just me. And especially in this case, I was able to get a seat with view into the open kitchen, where a small army of chefs was already handling a set of woks in a skilled manner - I love when the entire wok lights up in flames when whisked about. I asked the waiter to help me choose from the menu, which was thankfully not as jam-packed as you can typically expect from a Chinese restaurant. In fact, I loved the simplicity of it. The waiter suggested the following: dim sum basket to start with, crispy chilli-caramelised beef & slow-raised pork belly as mains. I took him up on the latter two dishes, but declined the dim sum starter. This I replaced it with strir-fried mixed vegetables. I ordered egg-fried rice on the side. My selection turned out to be excellent; I especially loved the pork belly. The sauce was so good that I used the rice to soak up every last drop of it. The caramelised beef reminded me in its preparation of the traditional crispy orange beef. Excellent as well. The veggies and the rice were lovely as well. A. Wong is not your cheap whole-in-wall Chinese restaurant. But, given the high standard of cooking and the excellent service, I find the prices to be adequate. Granted, it was twice as much as I would typically spend on a weeknight evening, but given that I was on a very special quest, I allowed for some adjustments in my budget. The interior of the restaurant is not necessarily my taste. To me, it's a bit too clean and modern. But since I've never been a man known to have a superior judgement in design, you might as well disregard my opinion here. All in all, I'm very happy to have heard about this place and managed to tick it off my list. Actually, I would even go as far and say that this has been the best Chinese food I've eaten in London. Now, off you go...

This place was a surprise - incredible wait staff with a brilliant command of the space - which is a cozy space with a very nice ambiance and location (near Victoria rail and underground) I recommend the Peking Duck - also crab and seafood bound in lettuce. Fried rice is excellent...

Clearly feeling overwhelmed. Placed an online order that was projected to be ready at 8:10 pm. I got there at about 8:15pm and the woman that greeted me was pretty calm cool and collected even though the place was JAM PACKED- with several people waiting outside to pick up delivery orders or waiting to be seated. She was multitasking for sure- taking orders at tables, dealing with Uber Eats folks, as well as people coming in for a table, and me picking up my online order. It was a bit of chaos but she said to give her 2 mins. I said I'll give you 5 trying to be cool because she was working hard. About 13 mins later a young woman (20s or so) came over and asked me to step outside. I politely told her 'that woman' (pointed in the nice lady's direction) said I could wait here, so I'd rather stay here to get my order. Based on her facial expression and the fact that she went to another employee to obviously complain about me - I wasn't going to budge - and get sent outside to be forgotten about. My order was given to me by the nice woman about 8:45pm- 35 mins after the time stated online. A bit aggravating for sure but thanked the nice lady for being so nice. So, we just decided to eat at places based on where we were at. Since we were around Westminster Abbey, I looked on Yelp and saw Firecracker. It was a few blocks down from where we were, but since I was planning on going to the Tesco Superstore later, it was actually on the way. We found the door to the restaurant and walked in. The restaurant was actually down the stairs. We walked downstairs and saw more than enough seating. The place was pretty clean, albeit a little darker than expected. Not good for the Yelper who likes to take pictures. LOL! We were greeted and seated promptly. They took our order and we waited for our food. While waiting for our food, we noticed there was a room next to us that had a karaoke party going on. Being the only Filipino on earth that doesn't do karaoke, this wasn't a big deal to me. I do, however, like watching people have fun doing karaoke and it looked like everyone was having a blast. They picked some really good karaoke songs (Living On A Prayer by Bon Jovi, anyone?). The food started coming out now. We started off with some Salt And Pepper Tofu. It came on a bed of veggies and was topped with fried garlic and slice peppers. We devoured everything. In fact, it might have been our favorite dish. For our main course, we essentially had a dim sum meal with some noodles throw in. We had Har Gau, Pork and Shrimp Siu Mai, Pork Belly Bao, Char Siu Bun, and Gyoza. We added a little bit more with noodles, corn soup, and Kai Lan with ginger sauce. The Pork Belly was super good and it probably wouldn't been better to order a few more. The other dim sum items were good, but living in the Bay Area, I've come accustomed to eating really good Chinese food. The noodles, soup, and Kai Lan were all good, too. The entire meal, as a whole, was extremely enjoyable. Service here is a great. We didn't have a regular waitress assigned to our table as a few people checked in on us. They were all great though. Being in London, of course they had an English accent. My daughter's loved it! They kept trying to copy them. I guess they channeled their inner Peppa Pig!
