My husband and I were on vacation and were completely exhausted from walking all day so we wanted to find a place close enough to our hotel for an easy walk without sacrificing the quality of the food. Firecracker was a fun little joint that almost seems hidden from the street. You walk down a flight of stairs and a cute restaurant with private karaoke rooms is waiting for you! I was quite impressed with how well the rooms held the karaoke music in- we really only heard what was happening when people were walking in and out of their rooms. We ordered some soup and dim sum and everything was quite tasty! I did knock a star because truthfully service was not great, but it didn't appear to be that way for everyone. Firecracker is close to one of our offices which is to say that it's great because we generally have very limited options around where we are on the River. I loved their bento boxes because you can do many variety of options and pick and choose as you wish. In my case I had all proteins and few vegetables. Our office has avocados and fruits so I didn't feel that I needed that extra layer of veggies. For 9 £, or under 12 bucks, one can get a whole lot more lunch than one would get, say from San Francisco. I also found the decor surprisingly pan Asia which is neat. This is one of the approachable places you could get by Westminster Abbey, and given how sad and limited the food choices are around here, I would give it a four star - simply it's within walking distance from work and it's what you'd expect from an Asian fusion restaurant. read more

On most trips, I actually keep a spreadsheet of our itinerary. Normally, this includes where we will be eating that day. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do that this time. So, we just decided to eat at places based on where we were at. Since we were around Westminster Abbey, I looked on Yelp and saw Firecracker. It was a few blocks down from where we were, but since I was planning on going to the Tesco Superstore later, it was actually on the way. We found the door to the restaurant and walked in. The restaurant was actually down the stairs. We walked downstairs and saw more than enough seating. The place was pretty clean, albeit a little darker than expected. Not good for the Yelper who likes to take pictures. LOL! We were greeted and seated promptly. They took our order and we waited for our food. While waiting for our food, we noticed there was a room next to us that had a karaoke party going on. Being the only Filipino on earth that doesn't do karaoke, this wasn't a big deal to me. I do, however, like watching people have fun doing karaoke and it looked like everyone was having a blast. They picked some really good karaoke songs (Living On A Prayer by Bon Jovi, anyone?). The food started coming out now. We started off with some Salt And Pepper Tofu. It came on a bed of veggies and was topped with fried garlic and slice peppers. We devoured everything. In fact, it might have been our favorite dish. For our main course, we essentially had a dim sum meal with some noodles throw in. We had Har Gau, Pork and Shrimp Siu Mai, Pork Belly Bao, Char Siu Bun, and Gyoza. We added a little bit more with noodles, corn soup, and Kai Lan with ginger sauce. The Pork Belly was super good and it probably wouldn't been better to order a few more. The other dim sum items were good, but living in the Bay Area, I've come accustomed to eating really good Chinese food. The noodles, soup, and Kai Lan were all good, too. The entire meal, as a whole, was extremely enjoyable. Service here is a great. We didn't have a regular waitress assigned to our table as a few people checked in on us. They were all great though. Being in London, of course they had an English accent. My daughter's loved it! They kept trying to copy them. I guess they channeled their inner Peppa Pig! read more

The entrance is quite subtle, can't tell that from the name, you have to seek it out, but once found, worth the search. Exhausted travelers looking for something quick, but also don't want to miss our dinner opportunity in London. We were quite lucky to be in the vicinity of this gem. Super friendly waitstaff, cordial and welcoming. Great recommendations on menu selections and portion sizes. The dumplings are delicate and tasty. Elaine's suggestion of the beef dish with green beans was spicy and exactly what I wanted. Dinner was scrumptious and Elaine's service was brilliant! Having visited this karaoke establishment 3 times as well as a great many other places that offer karaoke I can now conclude that Firecracker offers the best combination for consistent quality of food and karaoke system across the board.  The Chinese food is prepared with good ingredients, nice to look at and tasty whilst the karaoke screens are of good size and number in relation to the size of the room. However the total cost of room hire / minimum spend is comparatively higher than anywhere else I've known in Central London or otherwise, the karaoke system did crash once and pricey drinks are bought and carried from the bar yourself. In essence, if you don't mind spending an extra buck for a decent sit-down meal as well as good audio (good singing permitting lol.) then this is the place for you. read more

We dined here since it was walking distance from our hotel. The decor inside is very modern. I ordered the Thai chicken green curry. When I tasted the dish, it was much different that what I have eaten before. The curry was very heavy and the chicken was dark meat. I explained to the waiter that I didn't like the dish and ordered tom yum soup, har gau and shu mai instead. Once we got our bill, the green curry was still there. We spoke with the manager, explained the situation and she said it's not typical for a dish to be returned as it was prepared correctly. I went there today for lunch on the recommendation of a colleague. As others have said, you descend a rather inconspicuous set of stairs (it must be easy to miss in the dark) and find yourself in a deceptively large two-room space: one with tables and chairs and a banquette, is the main dining room, and off that are four karaoke rooms with banquettes and deeply-upholstered chairs.. My colleague and I both chose the lunchtime Bento boxes, where you choose a soup, a rice, a main and two side dishes. So, I chose Miso soup, spring rolls, stir-fried mixed vegetables, with tofu and aubergine in black bean sauce for my main course, and steamed rice. The Miso soup came first and actually turned out to be the highlight: the best I've tasted yet in London, and it reminded me of visits to Japan many years ago. It had just the right amount of miso and nori (seaweed) to give it that gently salty, seafood flavour without being over the top. The rest of the meal was perfectly all right, if unremarkable. The mixed veg were slightly over-cooked, and the spring rolls were one spring roll cut in half, and the sauce of my main course was slightly gravy-like in consistency rather than being thick and tangy, as I'm used to. But there was nothing to take exception to, and it came piping hot. Service was fine (though they weren't busy) - polite, quick and unobtrusive. What adds a star to the review was the bill; which (with soft drinks) came to £10 a head before service, so it would be churlish to complain in this part of London, and I'd happily come again for lunch. read more

I am so happy! We live locally and have been intruiged to see what this new restaurant would be like and were not disappointed. My wife is from Taiwan and is very fussy about asian food (she is allergic to MSG so likes her food fresh and without chemicals). Firecracker is an absolute jewel if you love tasty, authentic, yet modern Asian food. We would say the food is more Chinese focussed than Japanese or Thai. We have eaten here three times now and tried the dim sum, main dishes and desserts (This is the first Chinese restaurant I have eaten at that makes lovely desserts). We haven't tried the Karaoke yet as you need at least four people and a minimum spend to get the booth for free. But my wife - who loved Karaoke - was very impressed to see it has songs from different countries (including Taiwan!). We also saw them serving huo gua/steam boat/chinese hot pot to one of the karaoke rooms - so we will be heading back for that next. read more

Please note that this review is based on my experience of their DELIVERY only. I've ordered delivery from Firecracker twice now, and they really hit the mark for me on both occasions. First, the food comes delicious and hot. So far, we've ordered a range of sweet and sour pork, beef in black pepper sauce, chicken wings, pad thai, etc. All of them were solid for a place of delivery, neatly packed in containers, and brought hot and ready to eat. Best delivery in terms of content I've ever experienced. Second, the deliverymen are generally nice. I live on floor 5 in a building without a lift, so sometimes, the deliverymen come panting (which I feel for) and upset (which I do not appreciate). Firecracker deliverymen have always been polite. This place was much smaller than we expected and we even missed the entrance because I was expecting a big red Chinese sign for a some reason. Inside is dark and unlike the typical family style casual restaurant. More like romantic atmosphere. Everything we had was excellent and very authentic. But the portions are much smaller than American size. I thought the dessert was sooo yummy even though it took at least 15 to 20 min for perpetration. Mochi with black sesame seeds (3 pcs for one order) were piping hot and soooo yummy. Coconut tiramisu is very different and not the norm typical tiramisu but it was delicious. Both were really tasty albeit very salty. We ordered online on a Friday night, and they delivered about a half hour later! The food was hot upon arrival too. Can't ask for much more from a delivery. So this place delivers, which was handy as I'm having a stay at home night and watching Star Wars IV. I enjoyed the Berkshire pork dumplings and the pork and prawn dumplings. The Fujian fried rice was interesting and the ribeye beef with crunchy green beans in black bean sauce was also very pleasant. We came to this karaoke bar/restaurant ('four rooms providing opulence and luxury', apparently) for a quick lunch - which proved impossible since service is so unbelievably slow. The meal deal is great, with a pick-and-mix bento box for £8.50 including pork belly, roast duck or other meat mains with noodles or rice, accompanied by sautéed or steamed vegetables and a corn or miso soup. Quality is good but flavours are nothing special in the interplay between compartments. There is also a dim sum deal but I have long abandoned hope that mid-range Chinese restaurants in London can ever do a decent job with dumplings: only a dozen or so establishments in the Big Smoke really know how to do a small parcel. Walked over the bridge from The Park Plaza. The sign is very hard to see and it should be changed. Ordered Seafood Ho Fun along with Sweet Sour Chicken. Added some hot saki and we were set. Both our meals were very well done. We were very pleased and surprised. The price was right as well. Some people were enjoying the karaoke in a private room. Kind of dated decor. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and recommended the chicken skewers with peanut sauce- you want to get this item. It was to die for, perfectly spicy with ginger and creamy peanut. Once upon a time, the night before the Royal Wedding, an intrepid Qyper fought tooth and nail through the happy campers who were lining the streets of the Mall....to redeem her Groupon voucher! I may not be Kate Middleton, and my date was definitely not the Duke of Cambridge, but we feasted like royalty at Firecracker. Highly recommended dishes include the inside-out chicken wings, spare ribs and the Shanghai dumplings (xiao long bao). Beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Even without the voucher, I think Firecracker is good value for money; you'd pay slightly higher prices in Chinatown for a similar spread. Plus their karaoke rooms look amazing - we were in there at the same time as a particularly rowdy party who seemed to be enjoying it, but the magically soundproof doors meant that we weren't disturbed. Would come here again for a karaoke party, as I think it's free with a minimum spend. read more

It's a really great atmosphere with private group karaoke rooms. The food is delicious, as well. The only downside is the bar closes at 12 midnight, but that's ok. I'm from New Orleans so a bar closing early (yes, in New Orleans midnight is early) is a shocker. It is worth visiting with a group. read more

Basic veg stir fry, egg fried rice, hot sour soup come promptly and on mark to our less oil less salt request. Portions are small so add another veg tempura. Nice end to a satisfying dinner. I went to celebrate my birthday so i booked one of the karaoke rooms that hold up to 12 people. Room was nicely presented, and was showed how to use the karaoke which was complicated at first, but got the hand of it after a few drinks. once everyone ordered the food came quite promptly despite there being 2 other parties with more den 12 guest per room. However the main restaurant was not that busy which made it better for us as we didn't order before hand. ( didn't realize you could do that before was not told) over all experience was 9/10, food was good but not the best place for cocktails. read more

I was very impressed with this little restaurant!! All of the food is incredibly fresh for one thing (which, I found, is a difficult thing to come by with English food. Maybe it's just me, but I can only eat so much pub-type stuff!) and super flavorful. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The decor is awesome -- done up with dark wood, red tones, and of course firecrackers, it's very swanky and sets a lounge-type mood. There's even a glassed-off karaoke room and I don't know how they do it, but the soundproofing is so good that you barely hear it unless the door opens. We ordered mainly off the dim sum menu, and I highly recommend doing that if you come! The steamed dumplings are amazing, and there are plenty of vegetarian options. Also good is the crab and sweet corn soup. I have to say, I think they need to do a little bit of work on their wine list (the two wines I tried, a dry muscadet and a chardonnay-viognier blend, weren't that great) and their bar is a little confusing (our friend ordered a vodka martini and they told her they couldn't make one, even though they obviously have a full bar? WTF?), but they do have some good beers. Prices are very reasonable as well -- I was expecting it to be super expensive but for three of us, it was only about 65 pounds -- and we had a LOT of food. Ok, the food we ordered was crispy duck wrap(Peking Duck), chicken and pork skewers, and Singaporean rice noodles. The rice noodles was the only item that was ok. The wrap wasn't even steamed!! If anyone has seen a wonton outer wrap uncooked, that was the wrap. The duck is actually suppose to be its crispy skin. They served us overcooked duck bits. Just the worse ever Peking duck! U think they can't mess up some skewers. The skewers were chewy as rubber. I didn't want to order anything else cuz I was too scared. However, we were in the karaoke room which made fun. Went there for karaoke. Food was great 5 out of 5. Everything blew me away. Never had such great Chinese (Oriental?) food before. Completely different from Chinatown and pricier. Service was good 4 out of 5. Food didn't come at the same time. Had to make repeated requests. But overall good experience. Corkage was poor 1 out of 5. They basically want you to drink there. So they don't tell you how much corkage is until you show them what you bring, then they tell you: oh this wine is vintage so although corkage is from £10 we will be charging you £20. It is variable where liquors are £50+! Very poor management - way to ruin an experience. Given that the location is super inaccessible (even though it is in central), you don't get any signal (as it is underground) & you can get good quality food anywhere in London, I doubt I will be coming ever again (as they are sooo obviously after your money with the corkage). read more

We went to this place for a birthday celebration of a friend. Since it was December the whole place was packed with people from nearby businesses, having their Christmas parties, doing karaokes. If you go there around this time expect to hear a ton of ridiculous and funny performances:) I haven't tried dim sums properly before, so decided to give it a go this time. There are three on the menu which are chef's recommendations, so I took all three. All of those turned out to be quite bad and far from something I'd recommend. Since it was a birthday party we've ordered couple of pitchers of piña colada. Those tasted average, but the amount of alcohol they've put in was a joked. After even three glasses no one felt anything whatsoever in their heads... I also tried sweet and sour chicken which was quite good, so at least I didn't leave the restaurant feeling hungry. Location of the place is pretty inconvenient, the nearest tube is around 15 mins walk away, so if it rains either get a cab or a bus. In general, not impressed, so I don't think I'm coming back any time soon. read more

The absolute best hot and sour soup I've ever friggin' had. Holy cr@p that was amazing. London is great for other historical, cultural and landmark reasons, so I can't believe that I'm probably going to miss Firecracker's hot and sour soup the most when I look back on this trip! Be warned it's incredibly spicy, and that's being said from a person who eats those little yellow hot peppers from the jar like potato chips (they're way hotter than jalapeños if you don't know what I'm talking about). We decided to order take out for our fist night in London(-after arriving at 7am then sight seeing all day even sitting at a table seemed too much effort). Firecracker was our choice based on location. The service was excellent ( even on the phone they helped suggest options and quantities). We ordered several small bite dishes all of which were great.
