Fontaine's Bar - Try a Ruby's Sour from our Bespoke Cocktail menu

Recently created by a burlesque performer Emerald Fontaine, this drinking den effectively combines all the little touches that make you feel swept away in the moment. The service is stylish and nothing short of a performance in itself. Even something as simple as the cucumber water pour punctuates the moment as your servers become one with the 1940s atmosphere. The sofas are intimate, the lighting is flattering and if you can't find something on the menu that you'll like, then you've clearly never been introduced to the pillars of cocktail culture so start from the top.

We ended up downstairs in the private room, which was surprisingly well set up - a perfect mini-stage and a bar to fill our needs. The staff were smiley and attentive and I'd come back here in a heartbeat! Be warned that the loo is tiny though, and the hand dryer is located sort-of by your head when you're sitting, so it can startle you if your barnet sets it off accidentally ;)

You can book a private room to sing your lungs out with your friends here, and it's pretty cool. The karaoke machine is one of the best I've seen in London, there are lots of choices (10,000!), the music is OK and you don't have any of the fake videos (they're absolutely hilarious though when you do have them in some places). Drinks are reasonably priced, and the staff is super nice. They have a deal for three hours plus two bottles of Prosecco for £149 and since the room can easily fit 8+ people it's not very expensive. Otherwise I think it's around £50 an hour on weekends and £30 during the week. When there was a problem with one of the mics, they offered us a free bottle of Prosecco to say sorry! So sweet. If you book a certain number of hours and they have no one after you you're free to book more on the spot if you still feel like singing, quite handy. So there you go. If you don't like karaoke, this review was totally useless for you though.

Its great to sit out looking over the park in the summer, while enjoying a drink on the sunny wooden benches outside. The lack of proximity to a tube stop makes this place a charming local pub to visit. Its not the best place to meet people for the same reason, but great to head out to on a sunny weekend. After which you can go for a walk to the duck ponds or animal enclosures in the park.

Bar Review For The White House…read more The White House in Highbury New Park opposite Clissold Park is a breath of fresh air. The pub has been taken over by a lovely friendly Turkish family who have turned the outside space into a beautiful traditional Turkish garden. It was really sunny the first afternoon I went there and I really felt like I was on my summer holidays! The garden is a colourful riot of stunning flowers, vast bean bags and low tables with seating for about 50 people. I was a bit worried about the bean bags at first as I have a bad back, but they are really firm and unbelievably comfortable and there are also little wicker seats for those who prefer something firmer! The charming owner, Ayhan, offered us a choice of traditional Turkish shisha pipe or a herbal variety with no tobacco or nicotine in it. My friend is a smoker so she tried the tobacco version and I went for the healthier herbal version. They were delicious with gorgeous flavours such as coconut, apple and strawberry. The food was great and the owners told us that at the end of August they are bringing in a more complete traditional Tukish menu with Turkish Mezze and Shish Kebab on bamboo sticks. We are definitely going back to try it! The drinks are reasonably priced and after our meal we had some Turkish tea which was really nice. They have a huge array of boardgames available so we played backgammon for a couple of hours after lunch! In addition to the garden the White House has dozens of other brilliant attractions. There is a regular DJ in the evenings, Karaoke (both English and Turkish!) Turkish Belly Dancing, a pool table and at the weekends you can watch football on the widescreen tv. This really is a little piece of Turkey hidden away in North London! I told Ayhan I was going to write a review and he has promised that anyone who prints out this review and brings it in to the pub will get one free drink with the first drink they buy up until 30th November. Brilliant! PS I have become such good friends with the owner he has asked me to compere a QUIZ NIGHT every Wednesday so come down and join the QUIZ!

THE BIRDIE SONG. have you EVER been in a pub where the birdie song is played in a non ironic manner. or have you ever been in a pub which has played the birdie song in any manner? because i really haven't, and it was all sorts of wonderful. there are also knick knacks everywhere. this place oozes charm and atmosphere, i am absolutely 100% fully in love with it. please don't go here, ever. it's mine.

There was 5 of us in total and we all ordered a drink accept for 1 of my friends. We got told (or rather shouted at) that we each had to buy a drink or we had to get out! My friend asked for some water instead but she was refused and again the rude bar lady shouted at her to get out if she doesn't buy a drink. This resolved into the whole pub staring at us which was very embarrassing! My friend continued to talk to the rude bar lady saying we only wanted a casual drink and ordered a diet coke, the bar lady replied 'I don't care, if you don't like it GET OUT!' Myself and my friends are presentable people who do not look like troublemakers. All we wanted was a casual drink and to catch up. This ruined what could of been a nice evening. Horrible staff, horrible service and being refused some water is disgusting!

In Dalston, most of the bars and clubs are basement level, under the shops and houses. You enter through the door, stumble down the stairs and are greeted with this immense audio. Recently refurbished this is the venue for DRMRLLPLS, club night extraordinaire, and it was pack to it's black ceiling with musical manics. Sweaty bodies, swaying, jumping, bumping and drinking. My first night here, me and my friend walked down the stairs thinking we should push the "emergency door" in order to get to the bar, when a voice from the top os the stairs yelled: "Not that door, the other one". We both thought: "What other door?" Oh well, he meant that tagged "door" with no knob. First thing we see: a woman wearing a tail and cat's ears - and no there was not a costume party. Jokes aside, I really enjoy this place. Is original East London nightlife, all kinds of hipsters, locals and the music is amazing. You will soon learn that all the clubs in this area are usually under some kind of shop or building, and in the most random places you will find fun. From dancing all night, to drinking cheap beer you will meet people from all kinds of backgrounds and have a very East Londoner experience. I can't wait to go back...
