I came here to wash a king size down comforter, and a feather-bed type mattress protector thing, neither of which would fit in my home washing machine. Both fit somewhat snugly in the "80 lb" washing machine, which was the largest machine they had (other sizes were 50 lb, and standard 20 lb size). It was $10 per load in the 80 lb machine, and the load took about 25 minutes. I brought my own detergent (four of the All "mighty packs" detergent pods since the 80 lb washer was essentially 4x a normal load, some Oxyclean powder, and some Downy Unstoppables lavender scent booster) and threw the pods in the machine with the bedding, and the Oxyclean and scent booster in the little metal detergent drawer up top, and washed it at the highest temperature the machine would allow (I'm not sure what the bedding instructions said because I didn't bother reading them. . .) All of the bedding fit easily in one of their standard dryers, and it was 50 cents per 12 minutes of time. The bedding felt hot and dry after 24 minutes ($1), but once I got it home and it cooled off, I noticed the mattress protector was still slightly damp, so I had to leave it air dry for a couple hours. Anyone reading this who is drying bulky items may want to consider adding an additional 12 minutes (50 cents) of drying time even if the items feel dry. The bedding looked and smelled relatively clean going in, but was noticeably whiter and brighter going out, which leaves me to assume that the washing machine did a pretty good job. Overall, $11 and less than an hour to wash such bulky bedding items was a pretty good deal.
The laundry card system was pretty nice. I popped my credit card in to a machine on the wall, selected a dollar amount, and it spit out a laundry card to use in the machines. God knows I never carry around coins, or any cash. The bad part is that you have to pay $1 deposit for the card, and you can't add anything less than $5 to the card, and there wasn't any sort of sign or price menu in the wall that would clue you in on how much the total cost would be, so you're left guessing how much to add to the card. Annoying. I guessed $15. So now I've got this card with $4 left on it, only $3 of which is available to spend. There was some sign near the little pay station that said, "No refunds over $10!" but I just assumed "refunds" as in if you weren't happy with the service or the machines were all in use or broken or something. . . After reading other Yelp reviews, apparently I could have turned my card in to the attendant and got a refund for the remaining balance. I wish that had been made more apparent. Alas, I didn't see any attendants, anyway, so I'm not sure it would have mattered.
The machines were clean and functional. The prices seemed reasonable (then again, I don't go to laundromats much, so I have no basis for comparison). The laundromat itself was really cramped and busy, though, and the machine-to-seating ratio was poor, as was the number of folding stations. Going here makes me thankful to have a functional washer and dryer at home, because I don't think I could deal with this on a weekly basis. read more
