Came across this restaurant tucked inside gas station while filling gas . Decided to give it a shot considering we would be moving to odenton in near future and this was one of few desi restaurants in the area. I ordered chicken tikka biryani which was pretty good . No complaints. My wife ordered veg korma which came with a large fluffy naan and rice . Veg korma looked visually very different from ones we have had , but taste was very flavourful and something we would order again. Portions were good and so were the prices. Again, another trip to our go-to Indian Food Eatery! We stuck with our normal order for the Royal Kabab Combo & opted to try the Lamb Vindaloo & got baby a Qaam Chicken stuffed Naan. Combo had the same reliable bold taste- very juicy, hearty chunks of meat- fluffy fresh rice- light salad w.zesty green verde salsa perfect for the palate Lamb Vindaloo-hearty chunks of lamb & potatoes within a creamy vindaloo sauce; next time we want to see if we can ask for it a bit spicier- it had a nice kick, but we can handle more! Bottom Line Up Front: excellent Indian food from a modest gas station. Highly recommend, particularly their samosa chat. Food- every meal is extremely flavorful, with a range of excellent meat, fish, and vegetarian options. Every item is nicely spiced and cooked. Only two criticisms: that the salad included in combos is not really worth adding - I don't find it particularly good, and if anything, complicates reheating leftovers. Also, I wish the proteins were cut in slightly smaller pieces - the meals seem extremely sauce heavy, and when sharing, it seems like everyone just gets one piece for you're only left with sauce. Criticisms aside, we have enjoyed EVERYTHING from there. Highlights are the samosa chaat, onion bhaji pakora, biriyani, chicken tikka masala, and the salmon wrap. Personally think these are the best items of a range of excellent options. Service- the food is cooked in short order, the cooks/clerks friendly, and if I ever had an issue with an order (VERY rarely), they fixed it right away. Ambience- this gas station has it all: a Subway, fried chicken, and a convenience mart. I don't come here for the ambience or to sit at the booths. Sooóoo I'm at the nephew's place and we are Covid conscious so it's take out and delivery when I come in town. This place was delish! We ordered Chicken Fried Rice and Chicken Kahari. OMG. We were blown away. Went to pick up after approximately 25 minutes and it was piping hot and the aroma was heavenly. Upon returning to his apartment..12 min travel time, it was still piping hot. Really great food but DO NOT ORDER delivery. I'm writing this "hangry" as my husband goes to pick up the two entrees left out of tonight's order. They regularly forget something, appetizer and rice so often that in special requests we add "don't forget the rice. We paid $15 for delivery and still had to pick it up. They didn't even offer to have the missing items delivered. read more

I was in the mood for Indian food and after reading the reviews for this location, decided to bypass Prince Kabob & give this a try. I phoned in a combo kabob dinner (chicken, beef & lamb), a lamb gyro and Chicken samosas. Service was not the greatest but I tolerated it bc my food was to go. As soon as I got the food I opened the foil because I wanted my naan to remain as fresh as possible. Got home within 12 mins and opened the dishes. My first bite was of the lamb gyro and I got a mouth full of grease. I literally could not chew it. Next a tried the French fries, nothing special either and definitely not worth the oil content. I tried the chicken samosas...BINGO...they were very crispy and flavorful! The sauce was not traditional but it was delicious nonetheless. Okay, so my hope was restored. Unfortunately, hope died quickly when I tasted the kabob's beef! It was so tough I couldn't chew it! The chicken was eatable but lacked flavor. The ground lamb kabob was nice & spicy, and while it was by far the best tasting of the meats, it was extremely dry. The combo was served with a small fresh salad and rice (dry & unpleasant). Lastly was the naan was tough and chewy. My Summary: Glad I tried Royal Kabob and while it may be for some, it's not for me. The taste and quality of this food compared to Prince Kabob isn't even close. I gave 2 stars for the 2 chicken samosas I consumed for $40 worth of food; indeed some of the most expensive samosas I've ever eaten. read more

This is the weirdest location for the best kabobs in the area. You think you're pulling in to get gas, but really you're going for great meat platters and tasty naan bread. When you walk into the convenience store, turn right. This place is so unassuming you might miss it. It is right next to the Subway. So strange, but trust me it's worth it. We got a #9 and #14. The meat is seasoned, flavorful, and moist. Everything is so delicious. We did eat at one of the tables there. The tables don't look wiped down or sanitized, so if you're a germaphobe, you may not want to eat there. My recommendation is to call ahead and place your order. We had to wait 25 mins for our meal to be prepared. I also recommend to ask for extra sauce... that sauce is so yummy. read more

Royal Kabab is in a gas station, and is combined with a subway. Not sure if this is a family business but a guy walked over from the subway side and served me! He cute went very friendly which is definitely something I look for and that was unfortunate. The inside was pretty gross, looked quite unsanitary and the man who served me wasn't wearing gloves. Although, the chicken we ordered was so well seasoned, it was delicious. The pita was very fluffy and was delicious with hummus. My family loved their food. The rice and beans weren't very good but I think they're more of an acquired taste. Unfortunately, I don't think I'd come here again due to the unsanitary environment. read more

Winner winner chicken dinner....I've driven past this place countless times...after realizing they were still open, I figured what better time to try then the present...I was craving diversity and something different and royal kabob delivered. I tried a little bit of everything so the family could experiment a bit. Out of all of our choices the butter chicken (very sweet and spicy btw), and tandoori wings were my faves. I've had countless butter chicken dishes and by far this one was a bit different with the sweetness which was certainly different. Each dinner comes with rice and a salad (more like just lettuce and nothing else)...I guess with all the food we ordered they threw in a free couple of Naan breads which weren't particularly my fave but the rest of the food made up quite well for everything. The place is however not much for looks...parking lot is kinda dirty as it is in a gas station and for some that may be a huge turnoff but for those who like to get it in the mud like myself...we'll have at it. read more

Comfort food at its best. Indian food is one of my favorites and I've eaten at so many places around the DMV area. There are so few places where the quality is constantly high and this is one of them. Don't be fooled by the quaint exterior, the food and service are excellent. I order either chicken or lamb biryani almost weekly because it's so delicious. The heat is moderate, the meat just melts in your mouth, the spices are numerous and well balanced, and the fresh veggies on top are an excellent addition for a flavor pop. The naan bread is always incredible. Soft and flavorful with browned bits cooked just right. It's always hot like it just came from the oven. My kiddos always get the chicken tikka masala and it never has too much heat and is always delicious. I asked my 10-year old, "Why do you like the tikka masala so much?" and he said, "I really like the tikka masala because it has a kick of spice, the chicken is really good, it goes well with the naan, and I really like the rice." Don't sleep on gas station restaurants! We wanted Indian food and this place was close to home since Namaste wasn't open. We decided to go light and spilt butter chicken. Quick and easy to place an online order through Yelp. In fact I called to see if they could speed my order up instead of a hour wait and they accommodated me. Price seemed ok but the portions run small. Though I'm a light eater my friend isn't lol. Glad we ordered extra rice because that itty bitty scoop wouldn't do. The naan that came with it was kinda of dry. So I'm glad I ordered garlic naan. Tasty salad and dressing. Rice was very very tasty. The butter chicken was good but i felt more pieces could have been added to the mix. I took a chance on their mango lassi and glad I did! Very very delicious to accompany my meal. We had the lamb curry, paneer tikka, veggie samosas, regular &potato naan. The lamb was super tender and was generously sauced- essential for dipping the naan into. Seasoning on the paneer tikka was perfect and I could have eaten an entire plate of the roasted onions and peppers in that seasoning. Located inside of a gas station, I would have never tried this place on my own. My friend ordered us food on DoorDash, and after I ate, told me about the location! At that point my stomach was full, and I was completely blown away by the taste. I ordered tandoori chicken and my friend order butter chicken. Both dishes came with a small side of rice and salad, and naan bread on the side. We ordered extra garlic naan, and everything came correctly and still hot when it was delivered. I'll definitely be returning the next time I'm in the area. I think i'll continue to DoorDash because sitting inside the gas station might turn my tastebuds. read more

Don't be fooled by their restaurant appearance- let the food speak for itself! Royal Kabab is placed in a small court at a gas station, right next to the convenience store and a subway. I think it might be a family business because the guy that worked at the Subway just walked over to Royal Kabab and took care of me (LOL). Royal Kabab is my go-to Indian/ Pakistani food pick-up spot in Odenton/Gambrill area. My staples from the restaurant are their Lamb Korma and Paneer Makhani (vegetarian). Every curry dish comes with a side of small salad (which I honestly don't care for), spiced long-grain rice, and plain-naan. They are very generous with their portions with the curry, well worth $14-15. The lamb is always so tender in their korma and the sauce is so creamy and nutty. Their Makhani can be varying in flavor time to time- we have had a batch that was more watery than usual. I'm wondering if that has to do with the time we ordered the dish.... Either way, the inconsistency is my reason for 4 stars instead of 5 stars. Reading other reviews, it seems like their other non-curry dishes are good as well. I had our Mother's Day dinner delivered by DoorDash. I originally took these pictures to show the small salad. But, once I tasted my Lamb Rogan Josh all complaints left my mind. This place has the best Rogan Josh I have ever had. And I cook Indian/Pakistani plus make my own spice blends. This Rogan Josh was better than Royal Taj, Namaste or my homemade. My husband had the Lamb Curry and he raved about it. The yogurt sauce on the side was the perfect complement to the meal. Plus, the bread is twice the size given by other restaurants, almost as big as a 12 inch pizza. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the size of the salad was very small. I would have given 4.5 stars, but alas, yelp only allows full stars. The carryout containers are deeper than what you get at Chinese restaurants, there is more rice and entreé than it looks. read more

*Great* Indian. Best Samosa I've had in a long time-not dull potatoes and heavy crust, but crispy and flavorful with some heat. My wife's aloo gobi had nicely crispy and caramelized potatoes and cauliflower, and green peppers. The sauce, which was light, has a bit of warmth. My butter chicken was delicious. Naan was light and flavorful. And all this was after a 20 minute drive to bring the carry out home. During Covid, chef was masked, and the carry out area had plexiglass and remote pay. To make a long story short, I'm going to just say that you can find really good Indian food places to eat in and around this area if you're willing to drive 10-15 minutes from this location. I wasn't feeling the portion size at all, or the small amount of rice OR excessive sauce to minimal meat ratio. The staff was friendly, but I can't see myself paying 10-12 bucks for such a small portion of food. This spot is like Indian Lite...
