I once was best friends with the owner of a true authentic Indian restaurant in Florida. (Bear with me, this has a point) She was Tibetan and her husband Indian and they stayed true to the original recipes made in their home country. She made the most amazing food, and it set the standard for my tastes for Indian food. When I moved away from Florida, I spent 5 years searching for another Indian restaurant that would be just as delicious and authentic and found only sad attempts at mimicking amazing Indian recipes. We moved to Utah nearly two months ago and my search continued. Today I finally found that same amazing and authentic taste I had been searching for. Royal India in Sandy is a lovely little hole in the wall restaurant. The kind you might glance at and pass up without taking a peek inside. Once you get close however, you are bombarded with the scents of tantalizing spices that make your mouth water. I took a step inside, hopeful. I discovered this lovely place bustling and full of people. The decorations were unremarkable and typical of any Indian restaurant, but it was the people that really pulled me in. I found the gentleman behind the desk warm and welcoming as were the lovely ladies who were assisting others and asking me if I needed help deciding. I bought my food and went home to try it. The Biryani was delicious and the Paneer was outstanding. The Chicken Tikka Masala was mouth watering and the Samosas were fantastic. No bland tastes or sad imitations here. This is the real deal. Once I began to eat I realized one thing above all others: I have finally found what I was looking for. This is my new favorite eatery. I will definitely be a repeat customer. So if you're looking for amazing food and a cheery atmosphere, try Royal India. Just try it... Because, like me, you might love it too. read more

When I moved here from California, one of my requirements was GREAT INDIAN FOOD!!! And boy did I find it with Royal India. We have been going to this restaurant for YEARS and it is always consistent and good. The staff is warm and friendly, and we are always comfortable there. I have been going to school in Utah for the last 9 months. Since being here iv eaten at royal India 7 times. I'm from San Francisco, and pride myself on knowing good food. I was not expecting to find any good Indian food in Utah, expeshally since all the other places I had eaten at were very disappointing. Royal India was a very pleasant surprise. The food is very good, and it has a nice atmosphere. From the outside it seems weird( it's in a little strip mall), but once you eat there you'll forget all about it. This place gets high ratings and deservedly so. Indian places are all over the place and the food is so good when done right and Royal India does it just about the best. We have tried several of the appetizers from the Onion Bajji to the samosas to the pakora. We have had the lamb saag, the paneer saag, tikka masala, coconut kurma, and now all the naans. No complaints what so ever. Perhaps the best saag I have had the pleasure to order as well. I ate here on Saturday with a group of four. I made a reservation and I am glad that I did- they were very busy when we arrived. We were seated without a problem however once seated, we were completely neglected by our waiter. We finally had to ask for someone to come and take our order. When our waiter finally did come by to take our order, he was not paying attention at all and was spacing out while we were talking to him- he was literally looking around the restaurant while we were talking to him. We waited 40 minutes for our food- Coconut Korma, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Saag and Shrimp Biryani. Everything tasted fine however, you would expect that each entree came with rice- we ordered four different entrees and only received two sides of rice. The waiter forgot to bring out the naan and coffee we had ordered with our entrees and by the time he did bring it out, we were pretty much done eating. He said that he didn't know we ordered it. Check-out was a nightmare. Our waiter did not ask if we wanted to split the bill and just put everything on one bill. When we went up front to pay, we had to wait in the crowded entry way for about 10 minutes until someone was available to help us. At that point, we had to have the cashier split up our bill which was confusing and seemed to frustrate the person helping us. Overall, the food was fine but the service was terrible. read more

Definitely my favorite Indian spot around. I wish they had a buffet during the day, but I will settle for deliciously flavored dishes in the evening. Short Version: Food was ok/good. Service was terrible except the food runner "Reyes". Long Version: I went here after reading several reviews, thinking it would be one of the best Indian restaurants in Sandy/SLC. The host was polite and nice. I looked at the menu for several minutes with no waiter in sight. After a few minutes the waiter appeared and just said "ready to order?". Didnt ask for a drink, was very rude and snappy. I watched him go to the next table and say the same thing. Several minutes later he brought my drink and he never stopped by again. After that a food runner brought me my meal and told me what each thing was. He was very nice. I finished eating and sat around looking for someone to come to my table. "Reyes" was the runner, he came back by, ask me if I needed anything, dessert or coffee, very professional and polite. I declined and asked for a to go box and check. He took good care of the end of my meal. He should be a waiter, not a runner. If he was a waiter, Im sure the service reviews would increase. I ordered the Onion Bajji, Mango Lassi, Chicken Curry (Medium), Garlic Naan, Onion Naan. Everything was just ok to me. The Naan bread was huge, the Mango Lassi was excellent. Onion Bajji and Chicken Curry didnt have enough flavor to me. I would have given a 4 for food, and a 2- for service. read more

Ate here for the 2nd time with 2 other couples last night. We were seated immediately and our drinks came right away. We ordered chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, lamb saag, mixed tandoori and garlic naan (ordered our dishes spiced mild because sometimes you don't know what to expect). Everything was delicious! The butter chicken is one of the best I've ever tasted. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. We did have to flag someone down for a refill, but it wasn't the worst thing in the world. We were inspired by "100 Foot Journey" movie and went to find some tasty Indian food. I had the veggie coconut curma, medium spicy, and my husband ordered lamb. Both dishes were oh so flavorful and a treat for the taste buds. We ordered naan with mango chutney and ended up ordering a second order of naan because we enjoyed it so much. This is my first time trying Indian food. I was not impressed. I will not try Indian food again. Now my daughter on the other hand liked it. I felt it was very over priced especially for the small amount of food received. I ordered the Butter Chicken while my daughter had the Lamb Kurma. The food was a small plate of rice to share, both dishes came in a soup bowl filled with chunks of meat smothered in a puree sauce. That was it. No salad, no bread to nibble on, nothing. For $15 per person (no drinks included) I felt ripped off. The butter chicken? No butter flavor, no nuts nothing like it is described on the menu. (should say, smothered meat in puree sauce) I expected veggies and nuts along with the chicken like the menu says. The rice that comes with it was tasty however, I did not like either dish. Not my style of food but, was most dissatisfied with the price for the small amount of food given. I left hungry. read more

I moved down to Bountiful from Logan and didn't have much experience with Indian Food. We moved fairly close to Royal India and one day decided to give it a try. Well, we loved it and have been back a number of times. Although we have tried several dishes, my wife and I's favorite dish has to be the Chicken Tikka Massala (spelling?) with a two sides of garlic naan! Amazing!
