I wanted to make sure it has been more than a week has passed since my bad experience with…read moreHomewatch Yorba Linda before I write this review. I'm not writing out of spite but just so others can also make an informed decision when choosing an agency. A friend of mine has once advised me that a franchise home care agency is usually worse compared to a caregiver referral agency, and I did ended up regretting not going to a caregiver referral agency instead. Homewatch of Yorba Linda is a franchise and so their rate is quite expensive, but for the price that they were charging, they have only sent incompetent caregivers to my home. Someone who's extremely late, someone who doesn't know anything about catheters, someone who doesn't follow instructions of coming inside my house with they hidden key but instead kept on ringing and ringing the doorbell, someone who who cooks her own food throughout the entire shift (which was fine with me) who also left my house earlier than scheduled but was actually just waiting in her car on my driveway to clock out from their shift tracking app. It's not only the caregivers that they have sent that I had issues with, but their office schedule person who also seemed incompetent made such a grave mistake of not updating the caregivers' schedule with the adjusted time that I have requested. I had requested that the morning shift be adjusted to start at 8 am instead of 9 am but that office staff failed to update the schedule of the assigned caregiver on that particular morning where I fell on my bathroom. I was left laying on my bathroom floor unable to get up for more than an hour and only was able to call 911 when my neighbor's daughter came to check up on me by chance. Paramedics were called and I was being wheeled to the ambulance and that's when the caregiver came at 9 am instead of 8 am that I have requested, and that is totally the office's fault, not the caregiver's. I also happen to witness firsthand how they treat one of the only few good caregivers that they have sent me, I won't name her, but she was excellent. On my last day of service with them (because I had already decided to change agency), they were forcing this particular caregiver to go to another 8 hr shift after her 6 am - 2 pm shift with me and they kept calling and calling her phone which I think is awful and unprofessional. If they care about their caregivers, and also their clients, they shouldn't be forcing their people to do a straight 16 hour shift because they are not machines, they get tired too, and it is also unfair to the client to get a caregiver who is tired and exhausted. Again, I think it is their office's incompetent scheduling problem because if they want that caregiver to cover a call off, then she shouldn't have been scheduled the 6 am - 2 pm with me, but of course they want to make it easier for themselves even if it means forcing their caregiver to work 16 hours. Witnessing that just solidified my choice of changing agency. I think that Homewatch Yorba Linda doesn't vet their caregivers at all because they only care about putting a body on these shifts.

Sarah Underwood brought her warm smile, calming disposition, and expertise to me and my family during an uncertain time. Sarah explained the process, offered a "what we could expect," and answered a plethora of questions regarding caregiving. My family was not 100% sure of the direction we were going to take with my mom since moving to a different state was also an option. Sarah did not pressure us and gave us the time we needed to make the best decision for my mom.. and dad, who at 90 wanted to still take care of everything on his own. As it happened, my mom ended up being admitted to the hospital and then transferred to a rehab center. When Sarah found out where, she paid a visit to my mom in the facility, held her hand and had a good talk. She completely didn't have to, but did anyway. FYI.. I have a picture of their two beautiful smiles! And if that wasn't enough, I was having a tough time getting in touch with a representative at the facility (since I live out of state) Sarah came to the rescue. She got a hold of someone to reach out to me. Sarah Underwood is wonderful- inside and out and a beautiful representation of the company's standard of care. Families first, and it shows!

After being texted, "I'm creating the care plan now and we will keep you posted," I didn't hear from them for three days. Then, while I'm beginning my day of caregiving for my loved one the doorbell rings and, SURPRISE!, their caregiver arrived without any announcement or warning. I was completely shocked and when the caregiver (who was nice) called the office who talked me into letting her stay. Of course, instead of the respite I wanted, now I had to deal with an upset loved one and an unplanned arrival. This actually made this one of the worst days I've had in a long time because I had no idea anyone would show up. I should have sent her away but I was too flummoxed to think straight. Anyway, Chamberlin did make sure to charge my credit card for this unwanted, unrequested visit. I canceled the contract and highly recommend against dealing with this company. In fact, now I'm kind of afraid to even ask for help again knowing that the first time I turned out to be quite a hindrance rather than assistance. ADDENDUM: After this review was posted I was contacted by the owner of the company who wanted me to remove this review. He offered a refund if I would take it down. I felt that to be an ethics violation and refused. He did seem sincere in wanting to make things right although the damage was done. I've re-read my original review and still vouch to its accuracy and honesty. I just learned a refund was issued without preconditions. My experience was still horrid but it's possible it was a learning experience for the company. (I personally learned nothing that will help my situation.) Anyway, I'm changing the rating from to two stars instead of one in with the hope this will not happen to someone else.

My mom the client is a bit picky w/ caretakers so it's hard for Freda but she does her best to keep all 7 days of the week covered. I talked to my mom and our favorite caretakers are Stacey, Cynthia, and Lisa. Stacey and Cynthia mainly work during the week to keep coverage from what I can see. I hear them speak to my mom when I'm in the hallway and they're very nice and sweet. I'll be honest it's nice to hear my mom have small talk with people other than my brother and I. I believe these two Stacey and Cynthia are the only ones currently giving her a bed bath. If we didn't have them during the week we'd be in bad shape. They've also helped w/ my mom when a physical therapist is here w/ the hoyer to lift her up to do things so they are trained. Lisa, mainly comes in on the weekends unless she has time to fill in during the week. She's a very sweet lady whose very nice and appreciative of whatever we do for her. She's communicative and gives her advice on my mom's care. Again, we've been using this agency for over 1.5 years and I see no reason why we wouldn't keep using them. Our family trusted this agency to help care for my father, who suffers from Alzheimer's. Instead,…read morethe experience became one of the most stressful and emotionally draining situations we've ever dealt with. The caregiver assigned to our family regularly spent large amounts of time on her phone during caregiving hours, including personal calls involving ongoing relationship and family drama. I personally caught her sitting up the street with my father during what was supposed to be a walk while she remained distracted on the phone instead of actively caring for him. Out of respect for her situation and because she has children depending on her income, I chose not to escalate concerns immediately. However, after realizing the level of inattentiveness taking place, I intended to formally address the situation. Shortly afterward, the caregiver abruptly quit, and APS was suddenly sent to our home. APS and law enforcement both evaluated the situation and determined my father was living in a safe environment. The timing of these events, combined with what our family experienced directly, left us deeply disturbed and caused enormous emotional stress during an already difficult period caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's. Families going through dementia care are already overwhelmed enough without fear, instability, interrupted care, and added trauma. I strongly encourage families to stay actively involved, document everything, and pay close attention to how caregivers are spending their time while entrusted with vulnerable elderly patients. Be vigilant with companies that are supposed to support families in crisis, because continuity of care, professionalism, and compassion matter when dealing with elderly patients suffering from Alzheimer's.
