I was served by Paul, a wonderful, soft-spoken fellow. Paul was knowledgeable and steady, despite my emotional exhaustion over this plumbing debacle, and I now trust him. Before I'd spent half a sentence describing my fixtures, Paul knew exactly the type I was talking about and was already on the trail of the needed (albeit very expensive) replacement hardware. The porcelain would be saved. Despite my frothing at the bit, he gently suggested I NOT buy the replacement right away, but measure at home first. He was right - I would have bought something that wouldn't work. Another dead end, thought I, and I was ready to give up. But Paul, that trail cold, made a call to Kohler, sent me a spec sheet for the right parts, and had the parts on my doorstep *less than 24 hours* after I returned the credit card authorization form. One drawback, either Ferguson's or Paul (or the whole plumbing industry?) is stuck in the fax age and wary of email. I can't remember the last time I had to interact with a fax machine.

Each company sent a sales person to visit the house and assess the scope of the job and gave us proposals. We selected Mr. Kitchen and Bath on Centennial Avenue in Cranford New Jersey, a local family company. John Frangoulis founded the business in 1980 and it is now managed and operated by his sons Kosta who basically does design and estimating and Nick who is the on-site project manager. Kosta came to the house again and gave us some fantastic ideas on how to best maximize the space in our kitchen and gave us a detailed cost estimate Once the work began and they started to take the kitchen apart several walls of the previous remodeling were uncovered that had to be repaired before they could proceed. These unanticipated problems were repaired without any hesitation or further cost. When it came to the plumbing electrical, tiling, and counter tops they called in some of their long term trusted subcontractors. Kosta and Nick were here everyday to do their part, and continually checked the progress of the subcontractors work to make sure it met their high standards. When the remodeling was finished they asked us to go through the kitchen with a fine tooth comb. The few minor items that we found were rectified immediately. We were right in our perception that they would be perfectionist because they take pride in their work and met all of our expections and then some. Being a family owned and operated local business they do not advertise and rely solely on word of mouth for their recommendations. In our case they surely deserve the highest praise. We are thrilled and happy with our remodeled kitchen because of their ideas and guidance. We had issues with the Town related to town politics (ie nothing he did wrong), for example, and he tirelessly partnered with us to figure it out. He kept every single vendor on track and the delays were minimal, usually related to things out of stock. He was often at the house, checking in with the vendors and workers to make sure everything was being executed to plan. When we found any minor thing that wasn't exactly how we wanted it, he came back and fixed it himself. he was available and honest and has an amazing eye for detail. They should know who they're sending these to and review them before sending quotes out. I don't I'm paying a little more for things but 2 1/2 times the price is absurd.

So we were pleasantly surprised when we visited this time. The showroom is gorgeous, and the staff immediately helped us. We were installing a 8" x 9 foot drink rail for a game room, so we were on a budget. They worked with us to find a remnant in the color we wanted. They helped us choose our options for edge and corners, and set up a time for on-site measurement. It was just before Christmas, so we chose to defer installation until after the holiday. When they measured, they were right on time, and used high tech laser equipment to measure and draw the space. They discussed the support requirements to me, and they were gone in less than a half hour. They returned with the granite about week later, and installed the slab professionally and neatly. We were very impressed throughout the process.
