Friendly people helped me with fire brick and other wear items for my wood stove's annual tune up. I really like their Jotul cast/iron stoves! Also sells outdoor fire pits, big green egg cookers and all kinds of fireplace tools. Apparently the feds imposed new emissions requirements in 2020 and the woodstove manufacturers had to put out all new models. The variety and selection here was still a little thin when I visited in April 2021. You can only get to Hearth & Home from Route 46 eastbound! And go slowly, this place has a sign yet still is easy to miss. If you come from the west you'll have to do some awkward U-turns, maybe in white castle LOL

Great service and the stove works well. Only knock (and it's not really their fault) is it took almost 4 months from order to installation. But otherwise highly recommend.

    What I ended up with...

I was supposed to have this beautiful wooden surround with a granite face and hearth. After they installed the natural gas insert and set up the mantle, we realized they did not leave the space for the tv as we requested. He explained the insert was too hot for the wood surround to be any lower. It would have been nice (and ethical) if he had recommended a different insert when we were purchasing all this from them. So, we then had to pay for a stone surround, lost our $500 deposit on the granite and were stuck with a $3000 fireplace surround for which we have no use. Nope...he wouldn't take it back. The wife said sorry.

They assisted my 93 year old mother today in setting up her gas fireplace. The technician was helpful and patient.

I was at home, trying to start a fire in our fireplace insert but confused about how to operate the dampers.

They told us we'd need to fully replace the firebox and flue, and that doing so would trigger a series of code issues, recommending a full rebuild in the $15-20K range. This directly contradicted the seller's professional, who said the issues were easily repairable for closer to $7K. We eventually had to bring in in a third party, who confirmed the seller was right and said Ryan & Son seemed to be "trying to sell us way more than what was needed." We felt incredibly frustrated because we paid for clarity and guidance but ended up with more confusion, making our home-buying negotiations unnecessarily difficult. They were not in our corner, even though we paid them to be. A quick check of their Yelp reviews shows others have had similar experiences, so this doesn't seem like a one-off. I wouldn't recommend using this company if you're hoping for honest, helpful insight; especially during something as stressful as buying a home.

They told me I needed a chimney liner. I could have told them that I did not have one. Did I need to pay $199 to be told that? When I asked for the fee back, they said they would only fold half of it in if I agreed to their overpriced proposal. This is not good business although I am sure the owner will have an answer in response to my ad. Actions speak louder than words.

Packed well too. Sure, a big box store door would have been cheaper but then we wouldn't have been able to pick the size, finish material, handles etc. Plus this frame is THICK - all welded barstock, not a bit of sheet steel to be seen!

I wanted to support a local business and had naïvely felt that they would stand behind what they sold so I did not mind paying the extra money. I would have been way better off buying it on Amazon or another site online! I already had the gas line so I just needed to replace the old log set. First of all, when my wife picked it up you must sign a waiver that says you have a total of 24 hours to inspect everything. Then they have a clause in the waiver that states it may need "FINE" tuning. They also claim they do not do the installation and support they have contractors that do it, but their website clearly states they do installs and service. I installed the unit and it would run for a minute and turn off. I went to the manufactures website and found out you cannot contact them or get support; you must contact the dealer you bought it from. I called to find out how to get it fixed under warranty. Now even though the website is covered with service and support options I was told they don't do the service or support I needed to call their contractor and schedule a service call. When you call the contractor it sends you back to Albers to schedule the service call ?????? Oh, and that is $300. The tech came out and found out the thermocouple was not near the pilot light, and he needed to take it all apart then move the pilot light and the thermocouple, so they got next to each other and aligned. I have a checkout sheet with the unit that states who built it and tested it, it all says it was all tested and passed. So, I called back again to see how I could get credit for the fixing the manufactures defect. I was now told that since they did not have to replace any parts it was not a manufactures defect in workmanship it was a "FINE TUNING" and therefore it was not covered, and I had to pay the $300 myself. So, I should not expect to pay over $2000 for a gas log set and then expect it to work out of the box. Imagine if you bought a fancy gas stove and one of the burns did not light so you called Maytag and they fixed it and handed you a bill for $300 tow day safter you bought it. Albers sees no problem with this. If I had just bought it from Amazon or another online vendor I could have packed it up and got another one that was manufactured correctly. Instead, it cost me extra to by it and then $300 extra to get it to work.
