If you are going to install anything yourself or have someone other than their installer do this AVOID these people. We bought a ventless gas log set from them. I wanted to support a local business and had naïvely felt that they would stand behind what they sold so I did not mind paying the extra money. I would have been way better off buying it on Amazon or another site online! I already had the gas line so I just needed to replace the old log set. First of all, when my wife picked it up you must sign a waiver that says you have a total of 24 hours to inspect everything. Then they have a clause in the waiver that states it may need "FINE" tuning. They also claim they do not do the installation and support they have contractors that do it, but their website clearly states they do installs and service. I installed the unit and it would run for a minute and turn off. I went to the manufactures website and found out you cannot contact them or get support; you must contact the dealer you bought it from. I called to find out how to get it fixed under warranty. Now even though the website is covered with service and support options I was told they don't do the service or support I needed to call their contractor and schedule a service call. When you call the contractor it sends you back to Albers to schedule the service call ?????? Oh, and that is $300. The tech came out and found out the thermocouple was not near the pilot light, and he needed to take it all apart then move the pilot light and the thermocouple, so they got next to each other and aligned. I have a checkout sheet with the unit that states who built it and tested it, it all says it was all tested and passed. So, I called back again to see how I could get credit for the fixing the manufactures defect. I was now told that since they did not have to replace any parts it was not a manufactures defect in workmanship it was a "FINE TUNING" and therefore it was not covered, and I had to pay the $300 myself. So, I should not expect to pay over $2000 for a gas log set and then expect it to work out of the box. Imagine if you bought a fancy gas stove and one of the burns did not light so you called Maytag and they fixed it and handed you a bill for $300 tow day safter you bought it. Albers sees no problem with this. If I had just bought it from Amazon or another online vendor I could have packed it up and got another one that was manufactured correctly. Instead, it cost me extra to by it and then $300 extra to get it to work. read more

Zosemax fireplace maintenance came to diagnose the cause of my gas fireplace not working. The serviceman came, examined the fireplace and said he would order parts and return. I was charged $150+ which was the charge for fireplace maintenance. No maintenance was performed. Parts would be additional. Several days later my fireplace started working on its own. I reported this to Zosemax, and let them know it was unrelated to their visit. I asked that my $150 charge be used for a maintenance call. This was agreed to, but despite multiple emails and calls, they have never come and have stopped returning my emails. I believe this is unacceptable and would not recommend working with them. read more

Got custom fireplace doors for an original brick fireplace (I.e. non prefab, random size opening). The results were great, measurements were right on, the finish was good and the welds looked professional. Packed well too. Sure, a big box store door would have been cheaper but then we wouldn't have been able to pick the size, finish material, handles etc. Plus this frame is THICK - all welded barstock, not a bit of sheet steel to be seen! read more

I bought a gas log insert from Alber's 2 years ago. As anticipated, the various remote features are battery operated and require battery replacement from time to time. Dec 23, 2023, my remote would not activate the ignition and after a series of battery changes, I concluded that the remote control unit (part 101-A, look it up on Amazon) had corrosion build up on the battery pack and was now defective. I looked the part up on Amazon and learned I could have an entire unit (controller switch and remote) shipped to my front door in 3 days for $88 before tax. Not wanting to wait through the holidays I drove 15 miles to Alber's to see if they had the replacement control switch in stock which they did. I proceeded to purchase it when I discovered the price from Alber's was $199 before tax. $199!!!! $199???!!! More than double?! Who does this?? You could have me as a repeat customer, referring friends to your store, by now you get this, a pissed off customer who will go out of my way to ensure other potential customers know just how much you are ripping customers off. You should be ashamed of yourself. Quite honestly, you should be out of business! read more

Albers was pleasant to work with and we are pleased with our new Napoleon gas insert fireplace. But purchasers should know that they only recommend 2 gas insert fireplace installers. Subsequently, we discovered that it is super difficult to find *anyone* to service the fireplace. Zosemax was recommended to us by Albers for installation and we hired them to install our fireplace last spring over several weeks. There were some issues during the installation which got ironed out. Recently, our new fireplace worked briefly, with a terrible burning plastic smell, and then stopped working altogether (our fireplace is still less than a year old). As instructed by Albers, I reached out to Zosemax for service, via both phone and text. Three weeks later (!!!) I have still not heard back from Zosemax. My husband finally figured out the issue by watching videos online. Were it not for my husband's efforts, the fireplace would merely serve as a $5K+ piece of artwork, instead of a functional fireplace. Until the installation and service issues are remedied, I would not recommend purchasing a gas-insert fireplace. read more

Incorrect, yes there was a issue coordinating with the installer and the gas company for the first log set. Yes it failed after a few weeks and the burner assembly was replaced, the part under warranty, but there was a labor charge. This issue is what the Albers rep is referring too. This issue for this additional review stands. The replaced burner assembly failed (again). According to the installer something in the gas control melted and rendered the log set unusable-again. This has absolutely nothing to do with the gas company as they were never back during or after the first repair. There was an additional labor charge for the new log set which hopefully will finally resolve the multitude of problems we encountered. I still state this all should have been covered under warranty and highly recommend finding a seller who also installs the logs so you wont have to play the he said-she said game. Very frustrating experience and there were significant out of pocket expenses post sale and installation. read more

Bought a high end grill from them several years ago; Vermont Castings. It worked OK. When I bought it they dismissed the "junk" sold in Home Depot/ Lowes/ Walmart and said that this would last years longer. It does have a good solid cover. But like everything, parts wear out. The burners finally went south this year. I tried to buy replacements... and guess what, all the others are 3 for $15, Vermont castings can only be bought from a dealer, And I was told that they are $35-50 each!!! And Albers doesn't even stock them. I was told I would get a call when they found out if they could order them... and no call back yet!!! Others have mentioned the attitude and I couldn't agree more. In summary; High prices, attitude and no service. My vermont castings is in the garbage and I bought a good Weber Grill, WITH a 10 year warranty from Lowes. And I tried to support local small businesses. Sad, isnt it. read more

Beware they do not tell you about the added installation cost. I paid for the fireplace doos in full. Ordered in November and had to wait until February. After calling they told me the installers had them and to call them to to schedule. The installers then told me of an extra 201.52 fee to install. When i said i paid in full i was told Albers usually does not mention that fee. Save yourself time and money order it online. I was going to but wanted to give a local shop the business knowing i was paying more (about 350.00). Now being conned with the added installation fee i recommend future customers shop online. read more

Albers and Zosemax, their installation and Service company are fantastic. Great service. Wide selection of products. Easy to work with. Safety first is their motto. Zosemax brings old world charm to their work but on top of the technical side. Both firms displayed great patience and wonderful customer service. Kudos to both firms. Customer Service DID NOT EXIST... The unit that they said would fit did not line up with existing chimney. They told the Installer to cut away the Old Firebox... Installer did not think that was correct and reached out to the Manufacturer who confirmed under no circumstance do you cut the existing box. From that point on it was pulling teeth to get them to call me back. Would NEVER deal with them AGAIN ! ! ! read more

Terrible experience with this merchant. Purchased a set of ceramic logs in Dec of 2019. It is nearly July and we're on our second warranty after two faulty burners. I have had little use of this expensive fireplace. Business manager Jody Miller is the most unhelpful vendor I have ever encountered. After the second warranty she has never even called me to express any sort of concern or apology. Stay away from this business. read more

Can't recommend Alber's. They are positioned to sell high end grills and gas fireplaces but their service is akin to Walmart. We bought both a grill and a fireplace. If we had it to do over we would go somewhere else. Oh! Their website says they service these items. They don't. They give you the number of a guy that calls back 3 or 4 days later and says he doesn't repair those items. So be ready to hear crickets if you have an after-the-sale question or issue. read more

Do not even step in. We were working with Kathy. Our request was to put in a custom fireplace so the height is short enough to have a comfortable TV viewing. The quote we received was for a Forshaw mantel for $1300. Since day 1 we were told the cost includes installation. We had to pay $50 down for them to come down and survey. Upon survey we received a final quote of $1300 + $1000 for installation and on top of that the mantel was not custom. They were trying to sell us a Standard mantel which is available on Wayfair for half the cost. We walked out although we lost the $50 survey fees. I dont know if it is the company or the sales person. But going through other reviews this definitely looks like a place to stay away from. read more

Each time I was pleasantly surprised that all of the Albers employees were as helpful as can be. Im sure they've heard the same questions innumerable times and yet answered the questions with such a cordial tone as if it were the first time they'd heard the question. So I stopped in to Alber's for some consultation. The sales people there were VERY helpful and EXTREMELY knowledgable! After coming to the realization that what I was looking for was a bit out of my price range, I thanked them and went on my way! What you idiots don't see is that this company (single store, NOT a BIG BOX STORE) has been in business longer that most of you have been alive. Get off your HIGH HORSE and face reality!! This internet has given you idiots a small bit of information, and as the old addage goes, "A small bit of knowledge can be extremly dangerous to those who don't KNOW ANYTHING!!" Couldn't agree more with the reviews. Have only purchased fat wood from this establishment. Looked at mantlepieces- and got an informal quote. When I went back to order they didn't have what I wanted- totally different styles- none of which looked unique enough for what I wanted. They do not greet you. They do not like to answer questions.
