I took my camera in it was brand new just needed to hinge fixed on the flash was a mechanical issue not electrical I let them know I just got it so they knew it was a 1 year warranty with canon. Which they were probably going to sent back anyways. I just wanted to get an estimate bc I wanted a quick fix I wouldn't mind spending 50-80 dollars. But they gave me an estimate of $280. Looked online to find a repair source - anywhere - for my old but trusty Lumix FZ35 camera whose optical zoom was not extending. I was delighted to find Royal Camera in Hanover Park about 30 minutes from my office. And they offered free repair estimates. Although I considered shipping the camera I elected to drive over after calling them. Upon arrival they took my camera immediately back to the tech and returned 10 minutes later having "simply" reset my settings. Everything working again. We had a good laugh. Cost: no charge and a little personal good-humored humiliation. Great resource whether you're close or far. I do not know about you, but I get attached to my camera equipment. I only purchase and use professional Canon Equipment. My Canon 24 X 70 2.8 which is no less than 15 years old stopped commenting with the camera body. I sent it into Canon and they sent it back telling me they no longer have parts for that lens. I purchased another, similar vintage, on Ebay and it worked fine. I kept looking at my broken lens and the optics and exterior were perfect and it broke my heart to dispose of it. I found Royal online, and emailed them my dilemma and Vince got back to me Right Away, He did every time. I communicated with him and he said they can fix it. Gave me an estimate and I sent it off. They fixed my BABY and I'm SO HAPPY she is all better. Can't wait to take another 150,000 photos with her, but now with mirrorless, works GREAT with the adaptor. I wasn't happy with the service here. The shop was almost an hour away, and I dropped my camera off for a free estimate. Talking to the guy at the desk he said that they search for the best price on parts which is why estimates take a long time, and he said that I could send them a return shipping label and pay a $6 box and handling fee to have my camera returned to me whether they made the repairs or I declined them. I planned to do this since the shop is almost an hour away from me. It took a while for them to get back to me and they gave me a quote of almost $400. The quote was not itemized in any way, and I had to specifically request a breakdown. 75% of the cost consisted of a part that I was able to find online from multiple sources for less than half of their cost, plus they were giving themselves approximately 100/hr in labor costs which seems a bit high assuming they gave themselves 1 hour to finish it. If I can watch a guy on YouTube do the same replacement in 20 minutes, that could be closer to 300/hr if they worked at the same speed. Next the people answering the estimates@ email didn't pay attention to customer responses. I asked them after getting the quote if I could just buy the part myself, drop it off, and have them do the repair with that. I sent a follow up email asking if they agreed and they had no idea what I was talking about. Eventually they figured it out and declined my request. I asked them to box up the camera and return it to me in the same state of functionality that it was dropped off and that I would send them a shipping label. They refused to ship it citing that they didn't feel confident that their repair technicians could return it to the state in which I dropped it off before shipping, so it would be better for me to drive an hour each way to the store to confirm that it was put back together properly. Finally, this shop has very limited hours. I tried driving out there twice and arrived at 2:30 and 1:55 on a Saturday but the shop was closed both times. It wasn't until I arrived at 1:30 on a Saturday that I was finally able to get my camera back. Picking it up during the week was not an option due to the long drive during rush hour after work because they close so early. read more

I asked for a quote via email, had a brief discussion on the phone, shipped my camera and poof - two weeks later I had it back in perfect shape (replacement part and rebuild of the body I had dissected). I was looking for a place to repair the shutter function of one of my autofocus film cameras, and used their website's contact form, since they're not too far away. They replied within 2 hours, and said parts were no longer available (which did not come as a surprise, I would imagine parts would have to be cannibalized from other broken cameras). So ultimately, I did not bring my camera in. However, I am giving 5 stars for the quick reply and straightforward answer. Those 2 points are worth a lot in my opinion. I could not be happier with the service I got from Royal Camera who repaired my LUMIX DMC-ZS50. In only about two weeks they returned it not only with the the zoom lens mechanism fixed, but with the WiFi software updated and working faster and better than new. The also cleaned it it thoroughly so it really looks like new. I could have bought a brand new model for an extra hundred dollars, but I'm a little old fashioned and would rather repair what I have rather than encouraging a new open pit mine in China using child labor from who knows where. To anyone who wants employ American workers and conserve resources, and have confidence that your camera has been fix and inspected and tested recently Royal Camera is the best choice. My modestly priced compact travel camera (Panasonic Lumix) had been acting up for a while with the controls on the top being ocassionally erratic. Finally the camera just would not turn on. I phoned Royal to confirm that they could service this model. I was instructed on how to ship the camera to them and how their estimating process works. About a week after they received the camera, I got a phone call with an estimate for replacing the power control board which contains all of the switches at the top of the camera. The price would include a complete cleaning of the camera. Their price was less than a new replacement camera. I might have been able to find a used camera of the same model on eBay for less money, but I figured that I knew the condition of my camera, including how it had been used and cared for. I gave them a credit card for the repair amount and they said they would ship it back in about two weeks via UPS ground. They emailed notice of shipment and it arrived as promised, fully functional and looking like new. Also worth noting is that they provided an online PDF form to be completed and printed out to enclose with the camera being sent to them. In addition to the expected info about your shipping address, make and model of camera, and description of the problem, the form also prompts for a check list of included items such as batteries, memory cards, lens, carry strap, etc. This is an excellent practice and avoids their not sending back everything they received. read more

If I could give this company ten stars I would. Two years ago someone broke into my home and dropped my 10 year old Canon Vixia HF20 camcorder on the floor. It was smashed, it would turn on, but I figured it was beyond repair. However, I thought maybe someone would be able to retrieve the old videos. The Canon repair site on the web could not help me nor could anyone at Canon. I contacted Royal Service who told me they might be able to help. Nowhere did they mention in their free estimates that you have to cover the return shipping which they extremely overinflated if you don't use their service. $30 to ship my tiny point and shoot camera after refusing their repair which was more than the cost of the camera (which only cost me $8 to ship). Do not use these guys, total scammers and a total rip off. I apologize I did not go search through their entire website to their policy page. In the email they sent me and all of the links in the email/attachments nowhere does it say that they require the customer to pay return shipping. They should be more up front with customers with their "free estimates" I've gotten free estimates from Canon and they don't charge the customer for return shipping if you decline the services. read more

Drove over an hour dropping off a dvd for them to fix, for which they said shouldn't be a problem. Paid $278 and was told it should take 6-8 weeks. That was beginning of November 2014. After three months, beginning of February 2015, no calls or email with any progress, I called them acquiring about my player and someone gave me some really bad attitude as if I was really bothering them and told me that they will call me when it was ready! The end of march, planning on moving to LA, I called them and left a message asking them to have it shipped when fixed to california and they called me back following day said they can not fix and to pick it up for refund. read more

I've been shooting photos for mags and periodicals since Ronald Regan was President. Since going Digital I've worn out three Nikons, a D50, D5000, and a D7000. Nikons are great cameras, but even they break on rare occasions. Nikon will charge you a fortune and take almost a year to get your camera back to you.. so when my D50 broke.. I took a chance on Royal Camera. They did the work and got it back to me within 10 days,.. 8 years later my D5000 is wearing out.. they fixed that within 10 days for half the price Nikon Wanted.. so when my D7000 went down.. I didn't even bother.. Royal got the Camera.. It's back and I'm very happy.. They even called back and walked me thru the reset process to fix an autofocus problem. read more

Wow...great and fast service. My trusted Nikon D-80 stopped working and just gave an error message. I took it to my local camera store in Arlington, Texas, and they told me it was not repairable. I then sent it to Nikon who stuck their noses in the air and said it was too old to fix. I did an internet search and found Royal Camera Service and sent my Nikon to them for an evaluation. They responded very quickly with a list of repair work that was needed that included repair of mirror box, replace shutter mechanism, general image sensor cleaning and clean/check to good working order. Great service here. My camera had water damage and I decided to give this shop a try. Packed my camera, paid the inspection fee, put in the problem description slip and mailed it out. 4-5 days later I got a I call from the shop explaining what it would cost to fix. It was cheaper than what Canon is charging. I gave the go-ahead and about a week later I had the camera back, all in working order and cleaned. That was more than a year ago. I drove to the store to drop off my projector. They were rude, but I figured that was ok because he was probably a repair technician. They had an estimate really quickly. It was ridiculous. I asked them to send my projector back. After a week, I callled and they said they forgot to ship it. When it got here, I opened the box and plugged it in to make sure it was still functioning. It did not power on. I contacted the store and they told me to take pictures. I did. They told me to get a washer and put it on the screw holding the lamp in and it should work. Now I have a friend in the camera repair business! For this year only, I've already sent one camera body and two lenses to Royal Camera Service. In my opinion, they exceed the Canon factory repair in customer service, speed, and cost. The most recent piece I sent in was a Canon EF 70-200 mm f/4L IS USM. Royal Camera Service impressed me in three areas: (1) They are great with communication. They called me to let me know that an email estimate was sent to me, which I wasn't aware of since the email went directly to the junk mail. After the repair, they emailed me the tracking number right away; (2) They are very professional and competent. I told them that I had an upcoming trip to Europe and I'd love to take the lens with me. Right away, the gentleman said to me that he would make sure the piece would be repaired and shipped back to me by a specific date so I could have it for the trip. To my surprise, I received the lens one week before the promised time, and the piece is as good as new!!!; (3) They genuinely care about their customers. When I talked to Royal Camera Service about different shipping options, they helped me to save $50 on shipping by providing a fast turn-around time in their shop. I use my Sony professional camcorder for my business. The audio was dropping out on my recordings so, because they offered a free diagnosis, I took it to Royal Camera. Because I have been in the video business for nearly 20 years, and have used a variety of professional grade camcorders, I am aware of the signs of a recording head gone bad. Royal assured me that, albeit the heads have 2000+ hours on them, "the recording heads are still in good shape", and charged $400+ for a cleaning of the workings within the chassis. Within 1 week of recordings the audio was again dropping out of the final product. They offered to order the replacement parts and "fix" my camera, but it would take more than a week to complete the job. I said no, and took it to another shop my colleagues use here in Chicago. Royal's saving grace is that, after some argument they refunded the $400+ I spent (not including travel and rental $$ for other equipment) for their bad job. read more

Had the brand new DMD chip go bad less than three months after picking it up from Royal Camera Service. That was within the warranty period, so I brought it back in and they had it fixed (again) in only a couple days. Been over five months since without any further issues. Their customer service and efficiency are impressive. I do wonder about the quality of replacement parts they use, but I'm hoping that last DMD chip was just a rare defective new unit (lower price means more lax quality control, so that's the trade-off). read more

I sent a $800 point and shoot in for repair. Water had entered in behind the lens front element. $230 later I received the camera back saying the sensor had been cleaned also. Images still showed a large soft spot in the same general area, and soon after dust started appearing on the sensor, more appeared in a couple months of light use that in a year of heavy use. I called and they stated it was "normal" and there was nothing to be done. While it may be normal for some dust to appear, there was 6 times more on the sensor after just this short timeframe. Obviously it was either not sealed up well, or it was worked on in a dirty environment. I just purchased a replacement camera, this one is bricked unless I want to spend another chunk of money. I have been a full time professional photographer for 17 years, very disappointing. read more

I took my wife camera to this store since my wife told me that the camera was acting up and when I got to the store the young man that help me check the camera and told me that it was the battery but since they do a free check I can leave it and they will call me next day for pick up, after no receiving the call for two days decided to call to find out that the tech guy said that they needed to change something in the camera and that would be ready in a week, after few weeks and not getting a call from them decided to call to find out what whats happening and at that time found out they needed another week, I explained at the beginning that my wife needed the camera within a week and know we were going to a third week and before I new it was a month and I had to call just to make sure it was done, to my surprise they charged my credit card a week before I received my camera. Communication in this company doesn't exist and for the price I could had taken the camera to any other shop and received better service sooner and cheaper. Extremely disappointed in their service and the way the collect money without having the costumer check on their work. read more

Called after 2 months had passed, they told me they were trying to get in touch with Casio and they would call me in the next 24 hours. One month later I called back.
