This was such a fun activity! My husband and I had looked into doing kayaking tours but decided to do it on our own so we could take it at a leisurely pace. We took a cooler with water and snacks and kayaked up and down the river for a little over two hours. We were able to rent a Dry Bag for our phones, wallets, etc. Overall, I would 100% recommend this to anyone who wants to have some outdoor fun! We went around 11:15am on a Saturday and had no line to wait in, and came back around 1:30 to a short line of people waiting to sign in. This well run dock offers an easy, pleasant, and efficient way to get on the lake fast to enjoy that sunshine and outdoors. The woman running the front desk renting the paddle boards was incredibly nice and easy to work with. I have only been SUPing once before, so was bit of a novice with the process, but didn't feel out of place at all. There is no beginners' shame here! The man giving the actual instructions was a little hard to understand due to his fast-paced talking and a little bit of an apathetic attitude, but the man who helped us on our return into the dock made up for it with his helpfulness and big smile! They charge by the hour and honored my friends coupon, so we got a nice morning on the lake working our core and biceps in the sun. I dont recommend renting paddle boards here, (very rude kids work here) but they have a public dock to launch your paddle board. The owners want a more specific review ok. Wheres my phone charger.... For starters I usually come here every summer but after my last experience there I will never return as a customer. I will also never bring my dates here like I used to, or my friends like I used to. Nor will I ever recommend this place to anyone I know. There are other places with better customer service all along this beautiful river. Like I said I've been coming here awhile, every year the kids get worse but the kids pictured ruined it for me for good. Especially the one taking pictures. I've rented all types of craft there. The big duck you pedal with your feet, kayaks, stand up paddle boards. I've got some experience obviously but these kids talked down to me the whole time. I also took a friend this particular time and she brought her two kids with her. Here I am introducing them to this business and they also had terrible customer service from these employees. She had already paid but these kids didn't get her craft. They kept her standing around for awhile while giving people who paid after her their half attention. I'll get back to that... So anyway I walk up to get my rented sup board and she's like you cant wear shoes on this. Pretend I put an emoji expressing the biggest duh you can think of. I just walked from the parking lot, I have a back pack to keep my stuff in, guess she can't put the two together? Fast forward to when we come back. I pull up to the dock and the girl taking pictures on her phone starts screaming at me about getting on my knees as I got close to the dock. ( for liability reasons they teach them to say that, they dont want you to slip and fall bump your head and sue them) but I'm already on the dock when she continues to scream at me, sir can you not hear me. At this point I'm like whatever I'm gonna grab my back pack and go but she continues to yell at me saying I need to get back on my board and return it to the other side. This is where I want to point out, if this was about my safety why did she not assist me back onto my board which is policy per liability remember. She rushes me off the dock and that's where I actually slip and almost fall off my board, remember I was already safe on the dock. So that rude screaming girl taking pictures screaming about getting on my knees is screaming me off the dock and I slip. Good thing I didnt bump my head! So i follow this rude kids orders even though it endangered my life and take the sup board back to the other side where no one assists me off, so I just get off onto the dock. Then the dude comes and says next time wait for someone to help you off. By this point it's taking everything I have not to snap at these kids half my age talking about how they're gonna keep me safe from harm when they actually are putting me in danger over and over. That's when I find out my friend had her bad experience cause the lady was trying to make it up to her for getting skipped over and over. I ended up buying my own paddle board so I dont have to deal with these people anymore, I returned once to use their public dock after and my friend went with me only to use the coupon for one free hr which is a little longer than they made her wait with kids for a craft they already paid for but kept getting skipped cause who can see a woman with 2 kids right. I do want to Express my gratitude for the rude employees because my horrible experience with them got me to buy my own paddle board and now I can visit other lakes here in Austin and surrounding areas. This was my first time ever to kayak! I must say it was really fun and awesome. I went with my family and our kids enjoyed it. Of course my wife and I had to do most of the paddling while our two children were kicking back when they felt like it. Two hours is a perfect amount of time to have on the choice you make. If you go within the group it seemed like they only charged us for one kayak for two doubles! Pretty awesome deal in my book. Parking is definitely a PITA! But they do have a very small private parking lot and the rest of the parking is on the side street or by the park if you feel like hiking it there before you get your kayak on. Dogs are welcomed here. The staff and service is great. Be sure to ask for a phone protector if you decide to take your phone. Definitely worth it so you don't get water on your phone and damage it. Their restrooms are portajohns that are close by and were clean at the time I went. They even had a snow cone trailer close by to have one before or after you kayak. read more

My family and I had our belongings stolen after thieves broke into our rental car. We parked on the side of the road about one block away along with many other cars. When we asked Rowing Dock employees for assistance they said "this happens a lot...." Understandably, we parked on a public road, but to be told this happens often, you would expect signs for "park at your own risk!" Awesome time here! My fiancé and I came here to take our engagement pictures and we had a great time. The pictures came out so good! My girlfriend and I came here and rented a double kayak for an hour. It was a good price. The place was awesome! You can see the freeway to the right when you walk up to the register. Even though it was windy we had a lot of fun. The staff didn't go over any safety procedures or paddling techniques. They provided flotation safety vests and paddles. It was more of a "do it yourself" kind of place. I am sure if you told them that it was your first time they would go through everything you need to know. I would say do not bring your phone with you when going out on the water. Anything you don't want to get wet (or potentially dropped into the river) should be left in your car hidden away. Came to celebrate my daughters 13th Birthday on the river. The kayaking experience was great but DO NOT park on the street west of the parking lot entrance. We were there for 2 hours and our backseat window was busted open and a backpack was stolen. We had even covered the backpack with a blanket and had a 5 gallon water bottle over it. Credit cards were tried to be used at a Walmart for $204. Very suspicious that another review also said the same thing their card was used at a Walmart. If we do go again and can not find parking in Rowing Docks parking lot we will not go back I do not trust the street parking anymore. What was supposed to be a great outing for a birthday turned into a mess. Stolen items and broken window that we can not get replaced until in a couple of days, so driving back home for 3 hours with a taped window was not fun. read more

Went canoeing for the first time here with my family and we all had a blast! You can choose between kayaking, canoeing, or SUP (stand up paddle boards.) Try them in that order in terms of difficulty... from my opinion, anyways :P After you sign the waiver forms, you go down to the docks where they take your debit card and hold onto your keys if you would like them to, which I recommend so that they don't get damaged. There are tons of plastic crates for your other belongings, but the parking lot is super close, so just leave them in the trunk of your car to be safe. *If you decide to bring your cell phone with you, double ziploc bag them and keep it on your lap so they don't get wet. Our canoe rental was good enough for 3 people and they charge $20 Mon-Thurs and $25 Fri-Sun + holidays. It's Monday July 4th and they charged us $20; what a steal! Sunscreen packets are a dollar each and one packet will be sufficient for two petite people. The lake is absolutely beautiful and extremely deep so careful not to drop anything or it'll be gone 5ever :( Staff was friendly af and the ducks aren't afraid to swim right next to you on the water! I really enjoyed kayaking today...It's been a very long time since I've done so and was glad I did! I found out about Rowing Dock from one of their pictures on Instagram and they were advertising Yappy Hour where you can bring your dog...I thought that was so cool. I decided NOT to bring my dogs because they have too much energy and I'm too scared that they will fall in. But you should consider it if your dog is easily trainable! Anyway, the location is super easy to find (off Barton Springs Rd) and a fairly simple process: park and then sign the waiver and choose what type of boat you want. It's pretty inexpensive ($10/hr for a single person kayak). They will hold your car keys, too. Choose your life jacket and then off you go. I wasn't out for too long because I have a habit of getting too close to the land and then getting stuck in the trees/brush, but I did enjoy spending time with all the turtles around me...Some of them were little babies that could fit in the palm of your hand :) The view of the lake is breathtaking and it's very peaceful out there...I can see how this can become quite an addiction. I'd give this place 5 stars but always run into some minor customer service snafus - which has now been rectified. Some tips: You might want to come on a day that is NOT on the weekend as it was busy on a Monday...I can only imagine how crazy it probably gets on a Saturday or Sunday! Also, there is the Zilker Botanical Garden and Austin Nature and Science Center right in the area...It might be nice to take the family out and hit up all of these great spots! :) read more

This is a lovely, well-organized place! We took advantage of an awesome Groupon deal ($15.00 any rental, 2 hour limit) this past weekend and we had a blast! Not too far from the Barton Springs area, this place was easy to get to. Upon arrival we quickly checked-in and opted for a canoe for our 2-hour long outing o'er Lady Bird Lake. They even have an area where you can store your belongings, however at your own risk as they are open and can be easily accessible to the public (best to keep your valuables in your car). You can also rent small and large plastic bags for your phone, etc. if you want to take pictures out on the lake. Regarding restroom facilities, they have 2 port-a-potties on their parking lot you can use prior to your outing on the lake, and I would recommend taking advantage of that 'cuz 2 hours can be a long time! One thing that kinda grossed me out was that the life-jackets they provided smelled weird. But hey, at least they have life-jackets (awesome for someone like me because I can't swim for nothing). Overall a nice friendly place and the people were all very helpful! read more
